  • WILL MISS YOU FOREVER.

  • This is a beautiful tribute to this great, great film artist. Thank-you, Matthew.

  • RIP, great artist

  • His movie "The Devils" is my all time favorite. I first saw it in a theater by accident and had no idea of what to expect. I'll never forget that experience!

  • RIP

  • The delivery and writing of the narration in this is a little hilarious. Still, very well cut together.

  • Lean nuestro tributo al gran Ken Russell, fallecido hoy! Con análisis, fotos y videos- en Manganzon…com

  • Can't believe he's died RIP Tommy was a great movie

  • Can't believe he's died RIP

  • He is outsider! He is incredible!!!

  • rip

  • This is great.....Ken, lovely Ken, Bless You and Thank You..... xxxxxxxxxxxx

  • So now we just have Gilliam! I hope he takes over Ken's Alice in Wonderland as it needs a surreal vision.

BTW I don't think White Worm is a BAD film: Some scenes are a bit 60-ish pedestrian, but others are brilliantly staged/shot. Also v interesting to see young actors working in modes quite unlike their later screen personas - not Hugh Grant of course, who seems to have a limited set of acting muscles, though he uses them quite well!

  • Rest in Peace, Ken Russell!

  • Excellent feature, thanks for sharing. :)

  • love it or loathe it The Devils is a remarkable film

  • What was the movie with Tony Perkins?

  • @silvereagle2061 Crimes of Passion.

  • They told me to steal his movies. SWEET

  • Ken Russell is one of my fav filmmakers

  • Oliver Reed...nude...which movie....please, I must know.

  • For "The Devils" alone Russell is a great Director.

  • I have heard of many of these films, but what is the one starting at 3:46? Thanks.

  • fucking rubbish!

  • Thanks a lot Freddy... and by the way the few seconds on 3:28 and 6:36: Where are they from???

  • Where is Altered States? It's not even mentioned, and it's probably my favorite Russell film.

  • Ken Russell has a subversive sense of humor that I love. Recall, if you will, the scene in "Whore" where Liz gets taken to a fancy restaurant by her pimp. She spears some sort of odd appetizer with a fork and shouts for all to hear, "It looks like a dick!"

    Hilarious!

  • Just saw Russell in Toronto last night introducing the uncut version of the Devil's on 35. Something else to see in a theater! An experience I will not soon forget, especially hearing him speak.

  • Ken Russell has never gotten the credit he deserves. I know way too many people who have never heard of him and that's a shame. "Women In Love" and "Tommy" are such classics, as are several others! I still haven't seen "The Devils" because it's so hard to find but I hope to eventually.

  • Noticed there is a curious chronological similarity between the movies of Stanley Kubrick and Russell! An unconscious alter ego situation deeper then the obvious Fellini visual influences. Too many coincidences to be random not enough to be deliberate. Kubrick takes a "Cool and Detached" approach - Russell a "Hot and Involved" one. eg:. Spartacus - The Devils / Lolita - The Boyfriend / 2001 - Tommy / Clockwork Orange - Listomania etc See Amazon Listmania "Violence - Sex - Space Cadets" .

  • Great documentary about the genius Russell! Did you see The Devils at the BFI a couple of years ago? Mark Kermode interviewed him. A brilliant evening.

  • Great profile and overview, thanks!

  • What's the movie at 5:15 ?

    Thanks

  • Mahler

  • @SupraKarma That's MAHLER.

  • @SupraKarma That's MAHLER.

  • @SupraKarma The Ken Russell film on the clip is called Lisztomania a biography of sorts of composer Franz Liszt. Very strange even for Ken Russell, but worth finding and watching at least once.

  • A genius...a lovely tribute,,thankyou

  • KEN RUSSELL is beyond

  • In Italy "The Devils" was banned on theaters and television.

  • Italy wasn't the only one.

  • all of his images and use of music so much contribute to what we think as 'music vids'

  • Goodies !

  • Thanks for that doc. The guy is one of my favorite director. I'm waiting for release of the devils and music lover for year!

    Merci pour le documentaire.

  • Only seen one of his films. Road to Mandalay and loved it. lol

  • Pure Genius.

  • Love him, even his bad films, as someone else said.

Having a distinctive style is something that is dying out in modern filmmaking....

It takes all of five seconds of watching any one of his movies to be able to say "That's a Ken Russell movie."

  • Great job!

  • Great tribute, lovely images.

  • "Shout hallelujah! C'mon, get happy! Your head for the Promise Land!"

    Classic.

  • I wish his films were more accessible in the US. This man is a genius.

  • He is a genius.

  • the list goes on!

  • I love the films of Ken Russell.Even his bad films (eg-Lair of the White Worm)are fun.

  • That segment on the Devils just brought back so much. Russell was splendid. Absolutely brilliant.

    --Con

  • Superb video! Thanks for making that and showing it here! I agree with the sentiments of the voice-over totally!

  • the daughters of zion get their oates

  • my favorite's mahler!!!!!

  • I love Ken Russell. One of the few last, great iconoclast filmmakers. We've lost Fellini and Kubrick... now we've only got Russell and Gilliam, but no one will give them any money. Someone, PLEASE: GIVE THEM MONEY! As for Woody Allen, he's been way too spotty and inconsistent as of late.

Anyway, I thank you for this mini-doc: Russell's the best!

  • @ItalianDivo101 Lets not forget Peter Greenaway. Check out his films in imdb. The Thief, the Cook and the Wife and his lover was the first film I saw from him and I loved. Also check out Richard Lester. Yeah, ok he directed Superman 3 but check out early 60's work especially 'How I won the War' starring John Lennon.

  • Russel

always so hated for his indulgences

    always liked him

  • Love Crimes Of Passion

  • "Women In Love" is one of his greatest works. I never experienced such an honest sexual passionate piece of film.

  • Wow! Thanks for posting. I love Ken Russell and there's not much availble about him. This is very nice.

  • Ken Russell IS God!

  • Great tribute frddie. How about doing one for the Producer Roy Baird? Thanks

  • Thanks for putting this together i really enjoyed it my father roy produced most of russels films so means alot to me cheers

  • Fascinating! Thank you!

  • This is awesome! Russell has always been my favorite director. Thank you for posting this.

  • please, in alllll honesty, please, ANYONE who knows how to contact him...georgina hale, murray melvin, anybody..., somebody... somebody please tell ken two things: i am an identical twin, and i must speak to him. I MUST.

  • Great background usage of Tommy!

  • Great documentary.

  • One of the greatest post war british film maker with Boorman and Roeg.Merci Freddie

  • Great tribute one of the greatest director's of all time.

  • I always thought there should be a feature documentary on Russel's work - something with a title like, say, "Method to the Madness." Thius will have to do for now and boy, do I wish I havd made this.

  • I always thought there should be a feature documentary on Russell's work - something with a title like, say, "Method to the Madness." This will have to do for now - and, boy, I wish I had made this. Just bought a bootleg copy of the unedited "The Devils" and was wowed once again. Does anybody know where to find a copy of "Song of Summer" or "Elgar?"

  • Great tribute to Britain's greatest filmmaker.

  • Thanks, freddie.
