The "animal orbs" as they are called are like your pets until you choose a different one. There are 26 different ones and each help you in different areas. For instance, one helps you find stuff underground to dig up, one makes you run faster over water, one makes you stronger, etc. And yes, you should get it, cuz it's amazing.
