Apparently not 1915, though. According to Wikipedia, "Chaplin reportedly built his "English cottage-style studio" in three months beginning in November 1917, at a reported cost of only $35,000.... Construction of the studios was completed in approximately 1919"
Thank you so much for posting this.I'm so glad the Chaplin Studio on La Brea is still standing, even though it's now the Henson Studio. But you gotta love the statue of Kermit as The Little Tramp.Brilliant.
Didnt they use the same location entrance in the film "Chaplin"? I swear its the same place that Robert Downey JNR is in when his brother announces the law suit brought about by his first wife.
Hi there . . . Tory from Austin Texas.. Singer songwriter musician. Check out some of my original material performed live in Houston, Austin, Nashville, and Branson if you have time and sub if you like. Check out one of my original songs The Little Tramp..a tribute to Charlie Chaplin.. Namaste.

I just got back from doing an internship at Henson - what a Chaplin fan's dream, getting to work on the same lot and soundstage as the man himself. Yeah, they say it's haunted, but I never ran into anything spooky while there - except in the Creature Shop.
what did u do for internship ! I'D LOVE to get a chance to work there, hell just to stand in that place. what a great feeling it must be indeed ! Charlie was the man !
I worked for Henson's creative development department. It was really great getting to work with Jim Henson's kids, got to work on Dinosaur Train which is on PBS now, we shot some of it on the soundstage, and my office was where the backlot used to be. The Creature Shop is what used to be the carpenter shop. I'll probably post a video of it sometime soon. My first time on the lot was when I flew out to interview, and it was surreal. But it was a treat getting to work there everyday for 3 months.
Where is the rest of this film? I know that these are clips from How to make movies with him narrating over them but he says its on for another 2 hours. does anyone know anything about this?
This is a compilation of three shorts that Chaplin made for First National Pictures: A Dog's Life (1918), Shoulder Arms (1918), and The Pilgrim (1923). The compilation is called "The Chaplin Revue", it was made in 1959, with new music composed by Chaplin, and this little introduction narrated by himself. The images used in this introduction are from his unrealesed short amusing documentary "How To Make Movies", made in 1918, to celebrate his new studio.
LOVE HIM! i'd give anything to work in the Jim Henson studios today just to know you are where it all began. and it is apparently haunted by his ghost! :)
Hi Nigeltomm, thank you for posting this. I am thrilled to see new postins of the great CC. If you have any moer I'm sure the world would be happy to share the laughs you have in your very own personal moment. Have a wonderful life and I wish you all the best, ETH
@SuperNosfe1994 The original soundtrack was made in 1931. Which makes it 13 years later from the 1918 footage. A few more bits of dialogue were added in 1959. One can hear the sound quality from one (1931) to the other (1959). Especially at 1:00 .
@hornybodhisattva . I looked at a few old photos of the studio and it seems that its been altered since it was first built. The entrance retains its original design but the northern end seems to be entirely different. And smaller. Id love to live 8 blocks from such a legendary place.
omg i love his voice!!! hahahaha i love that he says edna put on weight right after it shows he just can't pick her up :P oh i love charlie..i totally agree with starburst..i wish i was born during his time. how awesome would it have been to know him?!?
a lame question. what did chaplin say at 0:07, after he says : ".. Hollywood in 1915.. with..? sun..?" XD i can't hear what he says x) he speaks abit fast. :b
How handsome wasn't he back in these days? *drooling*
And look! They are rehearsing for Sunnyside :D
"On the 32 take the little fellow became quite a dead-weight. It was very trying on the muscles of my arms." But he's not thinking about poor Loyal Underwood :P

Does anyone know whether the Chaplin Revue movie has a narrative soundtrack added during the actual movies? Or is it just his voice in between?

Herb Albert's A&M Record Studio had been using the old Charlie Chaplin Studio back in the 1970s. Perhaps they are still occupying it.

I was smiling so big watching this!! You rarely ever hear Charlie Chaplin speak. The sound of his voice makes him come alive - if only for a moment.
PoemPantomime 4 years ago 2
In fact: It is not so rare to hear his voice... ;)
He narrated some of his own silent films like "Gold Rush" in a later version. And he DID some talkies, of course.
