@mazurekpaul They're Death Metal. And someone with an accustomed ear to the vocals can understand vocals in Death Metal just as easy as other music. There are plenty of clean vocals you can't understand yet I can go off and listen to Dimmu Borgir (Black Metal, but still) or Children of Bodom and make out 90% of the lyrics. Where as I can go listen to Fall Out Boy and make out half of the lyrics at best.
Ive kinda been slowly getting into Melodeth, the past couple years and I have heard a lot of bands, I am used to deeper vocals, but the vocals here definitely arent bad at all. But there are definitely better vocals out there IMO.

Jimmie WAS an amazing vocalist. I think, that was the best era of Nightrage (although they're still good). A New Disease Is Born is one of my favorit records ever, but this guy sold himself. I could cry when I see what is he doing in DBA. Biggest disappointment in the history of metal. R.I.P.
I actually like these vocals a lot better than Tompa's work with Nightrage. Don't get me wrong, I fucking love Tompa, and I wish I could scream like he used to...but they term is USED TO. The guy's blown out his voice completely, which is sad, because Tompa's work, especially on Slaughter of the Soul, is probably some of the best vocalization in the history of all things metal!

It just pisses me off when people talk shit about bands while listening to those bands, I don't mind critics, but just saying "the vocals suck" doesn't accomplish anything. If someone were to say I would prefer the singer sing clean or do false chord vocals, then I would be ok, thats reasonable, or if someone were to say I wish the singer's frye was less screachy, ok I can see why.

@CallingCrowe Btw don't categorize bands based on what you compare them to. Each band has something unique to bring to a genre, and not all bands fit perfectly into a specific genre. So saying he sounds like a shitty hardcore screamer. Is just a terrible way to explain a point. If you dont like it then you don't like it, he has his own way of screaming it that goes with the music behind him. Don't compare two different bands or genre's because each band brings their own specialties to the table.

Tune Lamb of God down another half-step and split Randy Blythe's vox into lows and highs, and you have a southern-style death metal band.
Replace Skyfire's vox with clean singing and you have power metal.
Etc.
