Shutting off the power bars to eliminate phantom load is wise. My next computer will be a laptop, but I'll be hanging on to my PC for at least another year or two. There's no sense in discarding a perfectly good PC only to consume more when I can save money and reduce waste by squeezing out a little more life from my current computer.
