  • im rob roy mcgregors decendant seroiusly

  • @narutorockon12 i am also!! cheers!! MacGregor!!!

  • I guess I'm related to the Duke of Montrose. Sad day. But he wasn't as bad as Tim Roth's Character.

  • Tim Roth was fantastic in this film, shame about the rest of the film could have been done a lot better.

  • Rob Roy is my favourite scottish movie. I love him. Liam Neeson does a good job making his character look good. LONG LIVE ROB ROY MCGREGOR!

  • mustangmilligan - check you facts. The two chief points in the Jacobite programme were: 1. the restoration of the Stuart Monarchy 2. the restoration of the Scottish parliament. The after affects WERE tragic but who carried them out ? It wasn't just the end of the clan system, it was the death of Scotland too.

I'm a Lowlander and I think most Lowlanders stink to high heaven because of what they've done and are still doing to this country. They'd sell their granny for twopence.

  • @Odysseusgoestotown lol 2 pence? wow scotlish people are poor xD no offence im scottish myself but born and raised in england lol

  • You left out by far the best scene... where Jessica Lange gets the shaft from behind against her will.

  • @powskier she was pretty quiet if it was against her will.. Always felt she enjoyed the sensation. most women prefer it done from that angle I have found out

  • you can tell Mr Milligan is a bit jealous.Spot the prodistant

  • Rob Roy Macgregor is a relative of mine.

  • I don't think some of you may get it. I am a descendant of Scottish nobility, I grew up in California and what this movie is about is Scottish guts, principles, love and romance...and its called taking the high road...something we need now very much so in this world.

  • wait a minute we are not talking aboot a argument here, as you well know lowlander once the highlanders came doon then you had trouble

  • "My favorite all time movie, after 60yrs of 50% garbage."

  • Excellent video. I'm learning the Uilleann Pipes, and I hope to learn "O'Sullivan's March" soon.

  • Playing Outlawed Tunes on Outlawed Pipes! Love the rendition and song!

  • Outlawed tunes on Outlawed Pipes. Excellent song and rendition!

  • END GAME

  • i was scrolling through the comments, and gosh why does everyone have to argue isn't this site about the videos? why cant you people just put something positive instead of bringing other people down?

  • @danieljg1995 my sentiments exactly. I'll never understand all the hatin' goin' on.

  • Clan Gregor!

  • related 2 himm.....yea. That would be why I'm in the US...

  • thank you lol

  • what's this movie about? i've never seen it. looks good though

  • It´s from 1995, you were 2 years old when it came out in theatres... But I recommend it; it´s a fantastic, cult movie about a hero from Scotland.

  • Haha, well the fact that it came out when I was two explains why I'd never heard of it until now. I'll try to see it though. Thanks. =]

  • Hope you´re not offended, it wasn´t meant in such way. ;) The point is that Rob Roy is well known mostly between history, Scotland or heroe fans. So good luck in finding it and have a nice time while watching this piece!

  • what's this movie about? i've never seen it. looks good though

  • The only part of this movie I hated was the rape scene of Robs wife. But I loved the end when he sliced up the guy who did it.

  • GREAT MOVIE of a notorius loch Lomond sider, where I also was brought up, even swimming occasionally in Rob-Roys shower( the falls at Glen Falloch).

  • extra cold shower eh?

  • Were can i find this song!!!!

  • The music is by The Chieftains, the name of the song is O'Sullivan's March. You can find it on 2 different albums: FILM CUTS(from 1996) and BEST OF THE CHIEFTAINS (from 1992)

  • OMG OMG OMG ive been trying to find this tune for over two years. its on rob roy and master and commander and i cant even find it. please tell me what tune this is. thankyou so much to the person who tells me who it is

  • not sure what the name of the tune is, carter burwell did it though so it will be on the rob roy soundtrack. it's not the same as master as commander but sounds very similar, thats another class tune though

  • cheers mate, at least another person knows a bit about scottish history. It a sham that the year after this film is set in, that teh cots were defeated in teh jacobite rebeliion

  • its called O'Sullivan's March

  • The theme to this video is "O'Sullivan March" by Chieftains :)) great band, great music, great movie

  • An absolutely superb film, Braveheart isn't in the same league. Unsurpassed sword fights are just one of reasons I can watch it time and time again.

  • Rob Roy Vetter than bravehart.

  • Rob Roy > Braveheart

  • Nice work. A very underrated film, sadly eclipsed by its bigger brother Braveheart (though I far prefer this version of Highland life). A cracking script, superb performances from all involved, and one of the best, most realistic sword-fights ever put to film.

  • braveheart is a good film just to watch for a story but 75% of it is not based on facts, rob roy shows the struggle against the british red coats, but the scots unfortunately lost this war

  • In reply to plus 4489, many scots made up the red coat army, mostly lowlanders, the scots didnt lose the war, it was the jacobites that lost

  • Yes but these lowlander scots didnt refer to themselves as scots, the last remaining true patriots of scotland were the jacobites, they were the last army to fly the st andrews saltire whilst the red coat lowlanders flew the union jack. And most of the lowlander scots had english roots because highland english and lowland scots married one another and had children that fought for an English family to get hands on the British throne.

  • no im scottish studying history and that isnt true, yes a few lowlanders had english roots, but most didnt, the highlanders and lowlanders were all scots, they're beliefs were different however, the lowlanders did refer to themselves as scots and did fly the union jack cause they were british, but they were still scots

  • yeh but they saw themselves as British before they did Scottish, they were basically fighting for England.

  • they were all originally scottish so they couldn't have seen them selfs as british before scottish. They were fighting for britain under the british flag. They were all scottish, just their religious and monarchial beliefs differed

  • I beg to differ as do hundreds of thousands of Scottish Borderers and lowlanders. We are proudly Scottish. The Jacobite rebellion was just that. A rebellion of Highland Catholic Scots bent on installing a monarch of the same religion. The vast majority of Scots did not support the rebellion. Don't let movies and novels paint a romantic picture of the history. The after effects of the rebellion was absolutly tragic for the highland scots and meant the end of an ancient lifestyle and clan system.

  • Well i'm not sure what history books you are reading but i'm afraid you are very wrong. Highlanders are and have always been predominantly catholic. Hence thier support for a catholic monarch. Please cite your sources to backup the claim of non catholic jacobite supporters. Lowland scots were fiercly protestant at the time having emmerged from the reformation and later the covenanters wars. Thier lines were firmly drawn in support of the crown which offered them the protection of thier religion.

  • "The redcoats" wern't out to take the throne, they already had it they were there to protect it from an invading faction, and put down a rebellion.

  • aye what you say is true especially knowing that i am a historian myself;)

  • You know the problem with history? It never changes no matter who writes about it.

  • What are you talking about? History changes a lot depending on who's doing the narration.

  • dude, history is written by the one's that win the wars

  • No the history books are written by the winners... History, is written by the good the bad and the ugly that lived threw it.

  • the jacobites took massive support from episcopalians in the highlands and north east, they seen the stuarts as the head of their church ;)

  • I am a proud Highlander ! You are exactly right. "Bonnie prince Charlie' was a whelp raised in a french court. The hopes of Scotland was more than his narrow shoulders could stand. He died a penniless drunk in french exile.

  • I'm a proud Highlander too. - You must be related to the Campbell s if you type like that.

Get your facts right before typing for starters.

Trust me you are not a Scot. You are not a Scot.

  • @mustangmilligan if you call a vast majority 7 clans

  • @mustangmilligan And should be chalked up as a loss for scotland. Total number of scots worldwide? Between 40-80 Million. Total number of Scots in Scotland? Just over 5 Million.

The Jacobites who cared so little about Tearleach's crown that they turned around and marched home sure had the wrong idea about independence, didn't they?

  • @mustangmilligan

According to the late John Lorne Campbell, the Jacobite ranks actually included a large number of Anglicans and Presbyterians. Catholic and Protestant Clans were united in their hatred of the Whig Parliament in London, which desired to destroy both the Clan system and the Gaelic language. However, Dr. Campbell also believed that Prince Charles was the worst thing that ever happened to the Highland clans.

  • @mustangmilligan Too right man, the facts are inescapable. The reality is that the main concern for the average scot was the typical things of life, support for family and making a living in the world. The Jacobite was a Catholic uprising, for Catholic desires, to paint it any different is wicked. Bonnie Prince Charlie would not be so Bonnie if he had taken the throne.

Ah well but when has truth mattered anyway.

  • @mustangmilligan -- the Jacobite rebellion was in effect a civil war, it wasn't just Highland Catholic Scots, there were also lowlanders on the Jacobite side (Lord Ogilvy's, Lord Lewis Gordon's, & the Duke of Perth's; as well as lowland horse troops) There was even the Manchester Regt, made up of English recruits (mainly deserters). But you are correct, the vast majority of Scots (including Highlanders) did *not* support the rebellion.

  • @mustangmilligan You're a damned liar and a Unionist forelock tugging lackey. A disgrace to your nation if indeed someone of your base slave mentality can be said to have a nation or anything that can be deemed to be of worth.

The highland clans marked their swords "Scotland and no Union" isn't that plain enough or does your latter day bigotry blind you to the honest truth. The end of the clan system came not with the 45 but with the clearances that were propogated by the clan chiefs.

  • @Gaudd You're a nationalist scumbag with a chip on your shoulder. See, anyone can play that game.

  • @mustangmilligan all revisionist history you blabbered on. A vast majority of scots approved of the rebellion many historians know this.
