man... a part of me died inside when they moved Cav OSUT to Benning :( that's some bullshit... was just at Ft Knox at the old 5/15 CAV barracks last month-- the railings are still painted red & white... what a fucking shame... all you wanna be Scouts need to fucking drink up some Kentucky whiskey to honor the TRUE home of the CAV!!! and don't take no shit from nobody!! I'm Infantry now (Natl. Guard made me reclass) but was 19D for 4 years... and I say, "IF YOU AIN'T CAV, YOU AIN'T SHIT!!!" XD

You are sadly informed. Reconnaissance units are a critical part of the success in Afghanistan. We perform a multitude of task such as escorts and security, but all forces are conducting these type of operations. Cav scouts are the most versatile force on todays battlefield that can perform said task rapidly and quickly transition from one to another.

@trevorthemonkeey ive been asking around and nobody seems to know but i was told that in the afghan war right now they dont do tht much besides do escourts and guard bases and shit like that. they cant really scout out the enemy that often cuz most of the time we dont know where the enemy is and are unable to find them since they hide in the mountains.

I'm more familiar with AF command structure than the Army but does just about every army... Division I guess. Have its "special" group? Like the ones that go out and do recon and whatnot?
