Don't put chow chow in swimming pool. Many have drowned! Once their fur gets wet, it gets heavy and drags them down. This is very dangerous. Chows are not water dogs. They get very distressed in swimming pool and desperately try to get out.Chows do not like water. Please do not put your chow in swimming pools, they can drown!
I understand that the coat gets heavy after they get wet, but the pool is only 3 feet tall and I am always with them whenever they're in the pool. It would really be dumb if I dont do anything when I see their head go down the water now wouldt it? The pool is the best excercise for their legs (low impact), you should know that.
yeah i have a chow.....just as long as it is very shallow and they can touch it's okay....but people like to put them in deep pool and with lots of fur and short legs it's hard to stay afloat.....so if you are going to do that try to get a doggie life jacket it'll make their swimming more enjoyable for you and your dog....
they have short legs for their body and their straight comapred to regular legs from dogs ect. an excersise shouldnt be suffering they suffer a lot while swimming just imagine a human in a huge waterfall trying to swim the opposite way....thats how chows feel of they could talk they would explain!
