  • I've never set foot in a starbucks simply because I don't like the idea of it. I much rather go to my little local Italian owned cafe. So much more character, or am I just a sucker for an Italian accent! haha

  • I believe that in western society it isn't about the actual quality of coffee or even the taste. Most of the time it just comes down to an alternative to an energy drink before and during work.

Interesting clip 'Coffeemovies', and no, your search for the perfect cup of coffee is a perfectly healthy desire. Would you ever open your own coffee shop one day? I sure as hell would love to but thats when the REAL problem becomes apparent.....money!!

  • The only thing bad about starbucks are the hipsters that stick around there.

  • kill starbucks. In ancient Greece (Byzantium) it was all about moderation...Sturbucks and every other look alike coffee shop is proof that we hate modaration and an aesthetic healthy life. In ancient china the emperor used to look at what music came out of his people to see where they are spiritualy... looking at us today in every aspect of our lives its proof that we are way off... we need simplicity and love for life.

  • why bag on starbucks? yeah its a huge corporate chain, but a cappuccino/latte/espresso isn't that complicated and its certainly not worth fighting over. Become your own barista and buy your own espresso machine and coffee.

  • A fresh shot of semen helps.

  • Woohoo!! First place she was at--- Blue Bottle Coffee in San Francisco. That's my spot!

  • people are protesting over coffee? LOL

  • Thats honestly what i get at starbucks.......everytime!

  • boit ton cappushino et fait pas chier...

  • No offense but i think this is kinda stupid... if you know that starbucks serves drinks that are basically assembly line made why even support them and expect a "homemade italian feeling" cappuccino. THIS IS WHY YOU SUPPORT LOCAL COFFEE HOUSES! DUH! Thats what most people do, at least where i'm from, unless they're filthy rich and can afford to spend $8 on a nice sized beverage every time that are having a slow morning!

And i completely agree with @benjaminhaake

  • This is strange. I just make my coffee and cappuccinos at home. I do not like going to star-bucks because that means i have to interact with other homo sapiens. I do not like that so thats why I do mine at the comfort of my home.

  • fuck i hate working here but i don't have a choice in this economy...

  • The contents of my Gaggia's drip tray is better than what you get in Starbucks.

  • Was the only that click on this video thinking it was a tutorial on how to make coffee...

P.S if don't like Starbuck don't buy their coffee that it, make your own, I do. My cappuccino machine cost 40$ at Walmart go buy one GOD...

  • This rules, man. Long live the proper espresso bar! Big ups to Tulsa and Double Shot!

  • Haha lets interview the crazy lady at the bus stop!

  • like legit starbucks coffee is shit...

  • Frankly speaking, I have drank Cappuccino before but they never gave me any designs :(

  • can i just say ive only read like 2 pages of this dribble and i got bored lol just to clear things up in Starbucks standards Cappa = 2 Shots for Grande ( medium ) half lattte milk half froth, Latte = 2 Shots Grande ( Medium ) all steamed milk with about 3~6 MM on Froth and then theres the Beautiful Flat White which was originally from Australia and is wat is shown in this movie its Steamed milk with the tiniest amount of froth just a coat and with 2 shots in a short cup and masterfully made :P

  • They are actually classic European style cappuccinos

  • @MrSethheitz what are?

  • Definitely lattes

  • none of those are cappuccinos. those are lattes.

  • @MrFibertiger Wrong.

  • @Paperstar right. cappaccino, the shots are poured into the cup through a layer of light foamed milk. latte, the shots are brewed into the cup and the smooth steamed milk comes afterwards.

  • @MrFibertiger So wrong, it hurts.

  • @Paperstar ha ok, what's right?

  • @MrFibertiger James Hoffman gave it a pretty good shot. See what you can gain from this article with contributions from people with serious street credit. jimseven.com/2010/12/26/the-cappuccino/

  • @Paperstar his recipe essentially mirrors mine, other than the order that the items are added. regardless, the drinks shown in this trailer are lattes.

  • I opened the first mobile & kiosk espresso stands in California, using Washington law as a guide. After my 1-year trial period was successfully completed and the health departments of Orange & Los Angeles county approved this type of business, Starbucks went after my landlords. I was a nit - 2 locations - yet instead of opening their own locations, they went straight after killing me and taking my locations. Starbucks is soulless and the simple fact is that they make mediocre coffee.

  • Yep you're right, Starbucks sucks...

  • Starbucks... the worst of the best coffee! I'm stealing that.

  • I like and agree that Starbucks has been responsible for increased visibility to a product which has spilled over into increased sales of cappuccino, expresso machines and helped force a new relaxed, enjoyable style back to the morning coffee or afternoon at Barnes and Noble. It's a great success story. People will always try to tear down success.

  • Starbucks is the "worst of the best coffee", LOL. Thank God for Starbucks. If it weren't for them there wouldn't be the better independent shops.

  • Starbucks is the coffee equivalent of McDonalds fast food burgers. Of course it's not as good as a burger that you can get at a restaurant that specializes in burgers. It's cheap and convenient, everyone knows that. When they want a real cappuccino they go to a real cafe and have it made by a talented barista. Their is no need to make a documentary about that.

  • Really interesting and definetely worth watching. But the point seems not to be the persuit of a perfect cappuccino, but of trying to turn Starbucks into a perfect cappuccino making place. Which is the same thing as going to McDonalds and expecting to eat like at a restaurant.

Starbucks is the fastfood of coffee beverages. When have they claimed to be anything more? I mean when you make a drive-thru it's pretty much sealed in stone that your going with the FAST aproach. Why try 2 change Starbux?

  • @thepineapple1

I think what annoys many coffee professionals is that they do continue to hold themselves up as being concerned for their customers while this disconnect exists. Howard Schultz knows what amazing coffee tastes like and he also knows what is served at his cafes. To a fellow professional the carelessness in quality and the unhealthy upward drink size march is obvious and irresponsible.

  • 0:12 NO LIFE!!! xD

  • Until a person has the perfect Cappuccino., they will always drink whatever. Once a person has a great Cappuccino there is no turning back. I bought the rocket espresso machine to make them myself. Now I dont go to Starbucks.

  • Dear Starbucks, in your attempt to manufacture culture out of fast food coffee you've been surprisingly successful for the most part. The part that isn't covered by 'the most part' sucks. - Greenberg

  • this is the dumbest documentary ever why r you comparing coffe to world hunger and questioning your country over a fucking drink

  • Seems like all US cappuccino drinkers have something different in mind when they order a cappuccino. Some want all foam, some want a foamy latte, some just want something that they feel "stands out" that they can hold their poo in butt if not made to their standards. In up to 20 oz cups...

  • Funny how this basically says ... "Just go to Starbucks" anyway.

  • Thats what I always say! Starbucks is not selling coffee they are selling something else. I really hate their coffee, its ugly and expensive!

  • I got to be honest i think this is a slight over reaction. Sure starbucks doesn't make coffee like they do in Italy. But I live in a city with 150,000 people. There are plenty of local coffee shops to choose from, and some make coffee that's pretty close to what you could get in Italy. If you don't like Starbucks don't go there. That's the beauty of capitalism. If enough people start disliking Starbucks coffee and don't do there, Starbucks will change, that simple.

  • Get a fucking life....and a job

  • ước gì đc sống ở đây.....quá sạch , quá đẹp

  • if u want a realy good cappuccino come to Greece they make the best cappuccinos in Europe even better than Italy for real our foam is a lot creamier and thick not bubbly

  • I wish the movie would be cheaper...not to dishonor yor art or anything. I want to buy it, it looks real interesting. good job! consumerism sucks!

  • I really liked the movie...

  • Looks like an interesting flick! While I'm not on board with the anti-corporation stance that the film seems to take, I can separate the filmmakers' view from my own enough to enjoy it. I do agree that Starbucks has "watered down" coffee... but to blame them rather than the consumer seems unfair. However I will reserve judgement until I watch the film.

  • Excellent job!

    You really have talent.

  • it looks delicious!

    :)

  • Hm, two things I'm extremely passionate about; great coffee and the destruction of Starbucks. I think I'll be looking into this :)

  • at 1:02 what is it , ? what is this big cup with something inside ? a Cappuccino? I don't think so!!!! Mission failed Starbucks. Sorry but you can make a good hot-dog I think it is better for americans. IL "cappuccino" lasciatelo a noi italiani , come noi lasciamo a voi gli hot-dog ^-^" ..come dice gargamella --> che è meglio! ^-^

  • Barista's compete for the worlds best cappuccino every year at the World Barista Competition. Look to England.

  • ive just recently moved from israel to canada, and i have ordered cappuccinos in 4 diff places (second cup, some italian place....i dont remember the names) but they all came very very frothy. I am used to that chrome finish, with art on it or not, i can be able to tell when the milk isnt properly textured. what do i have to order in order to get a cappuccino like that, with the chrome finish i meen..?

  • looks like you have a good story, but Starbucks isn't the "only" big brand coffee franchise. I would enjoy to see your response and feedback from it.

  • offt. yeah i know starbucks is bad.... but i'm getting paid for working there :)

  • a valiant mission! way to go!

  • Eso es un latte ignorante!!!!

El cappuchino lleva la leche después de los 14 gms de café idiota!!! no mames!!! BORRA ESTA MAMADA!!!!

  • Starbucks makes great coffee ice cream, and has a nice atmosphere but as far as coffee goes, it's tasteless. I'm not sure if it's the beans or the roasting or the machines but I can't get a decent espresso there like I can from other chains like Peets. Best bet is to get a good grinder like Rocky Ranchillo and espresso machine like the Sivia Ranchillo or Lelit and make your own.

  • Thanks for the good recommendation!

  • i used to like starbucks. but now i've tried different coffees at small joints, i will never go back. such better coffee for so much cheaper

  • My solution to this dilemma was to buy my own Rancillio espresso and grinder machines! I roast green coffee beans myself with a popcorn popper....LOVE IT!

  • I think it is unfair to pigeon hole starbucks as the problem. After all, they are responsible for making most Americans aware of espresso drinks in the first palace. It was the advent of the fully automated espresso machine that has turned this fine art into fast food. Art imitates life. Or, is it the other way around? Our need as Americans for the quick and easy is also partially to blame. But Starbucks did what it had to do in that they kept up with the demand of their customers.

  • nooooooooooo

  • I'm italian and , even if I've never been tasting Starbucks cappuccino, the espresso is GREAT, even better than that of many italian bars..

  • as a starbucks barista, i can honestly say most of my partners have no idea how to make a decent cappuccino. part of the problem is timing, as we are so busy it is nearly impossible to properly train someone, especially since the recession began and money got tight. so while i agree that starbucks on the whole doesn't have great cappuccinos, if you fish around you will find a partner will amazing foam skills.

  • i don't know what her problem is, but if she buys a double short cappuccino at starbucks its just like in italy. most people like their coffee with loads of milk and cream thats why starbucks is selling it like that but you can customize your coffee.

and the coffee at starbucks does certainly not look like those in this videos, thats just stupid. starbucks coffee is great quality coffee and it's fair trade, so it's even more ethical that every small coffee bar where they sell regular coffee.

  • @manumitgitarre I don't know about the fairness of the trade that occurs for Starbucks to get their coffee

  • starbucks fulfills all fairtrade standards. it's just that they don't buy the license. all coffees have the same standards. it's called c.a.f.e. practises. and those (starbucks) standards are observed. there is one coffee, estima blend, that is offically fairtrade certified. but i can tell you all the other coffees have the same standards. but i'm sure that starbucks will buy the license in the future for all of their coffees, because, why should customers belive them?

  • El mejor cafe es el de "Juan Valdez cafe" Colombia

  • That video ROCKS! It's the same damn thing in germany. Loving the cappuccino means having a problem. You can hardly find a real cappuccino, you mostly get a watery broth with some stiff foam on it.

I made the same experience. I was in a typical coffee bar in Rome and got some creamy and very tasteful cappuccino. Sooo good even though the man who made it was totally hacked off and made it without love!! But he knew how to make it! How would it only have tasted if he had made it with love?

  • Starbucks rocks!

I agree, this girl DOES have a problem!

    And American IS corporate culture!

    Were you born yesterday?

Starbucks offers jobs to people all over the world AND provide great coffee

  • Okay, starbucks does not make great coffee. It makes tasty coffee-flavored milkshakes (ie, frappucinos) and countless sugary, different flavored, whip-cream topped variations of lattes and the like, none of which at all resemble coffee, cafe au lait, latte or cappucino (all of which solely consist of coffee/espresso and milk).

  • The traditional, actual main-stays of coffee that they do try to make, they do not craft in the correct way at all. A cappuccino comes as a 6 or 8oz drink, not in tall, grande or venti (12-20oz). When you make them that large, the proportions of espresso/milk/foam are ruined, and you inevitably end up with a poorly made drink.

Yes, they offer jobs to people all over the world, but guess what else offers these jobs? Small, mom-and-pop, skillfully-done cafes run out of business by starbucks

  • what does starbucks have to do with the Perfect Cappuccino? There's a doc called 'Black Coffee' that says all this stuff about Starbucks and more. If looking for the Perfect Cappuccino for you means a long discussion about a corporation then you are insulting the people who actually do work hard to make quality stuff. They are the McDonald's of coffee. Would a 'Perfect Hamburger' doc start with MacPuke's? Maybe but only as a joke.

  • I liked this movie better the first time I saw it when it was called "Super Size Me".

  • ridiculous vid..

  • yo have got to be kidding me, i love coffee and all but to put all this time and research into coffee is rediculious. There are so many more important things in this world right now then your perfect cappuccino.

  • the coffee industry supports the livelihood of over a hundred million people around the world and is one of the most valuable exports for many agriculturally-based countries. it's never 'just' coffee... it represents a lot of things to a lot of people that you mightn't see in your latte.

  • so did the Nazi's are you telling me you support the Nazi's

  • no, but you are certainly telling me you support the advancement of supremely flawed logic.

  • so i am just supporting me not giving a shit what you think what I say because this video is about some dyk looking for the perfect coffee, when there are more important things going on. Ive gone to Starbucks ive gone to European Cafes in New York and cities around me.Ive gone to Italy and had coffee there. Ive had it made with those consentrated flavor pump things they have, Ive had it made with freshly ground ingredients, they all taste the same. This person wasted time and money and its sad

  • I understand coffee is supposed to be a well crafted well designed luxury drink and the US has turned it into this generic thing made out of consentated flavor chemicals and cheap coffee. But honestly everyone knows this entire world has been turned into a giant Walmart where everything is the same and everything that isnt is put out of bussiness and this whole world is just this generic place. Theres nothing u can, its our way of life people dont want to give convience up so I just live my way

  • stupid hippes there are more problems in the world than coffee. wat a bunch of stupid people who waist there time protesting starbucks.

  • true true very true

and starbucks ,or ( israel dollar ) screw them

  • Sorry that not a cappuccino, that's just a very fancy latte, cappuccinos are 1 part espresso, 1part steamed milk, 1part foam. And the foam is also insulation, helps keep the drink warm.

  • noob FAIL

  • oh damn! why do they call it cappuccino?! it has nothing to do with that. I really cannot understand why americans keep on using italian names and personalise them completely without knowing what they are, like for "spaghetti sauce", where i saw incredible things. If you are americans, just call your concoctions the american way.

  • Are you French?

  • Looks like a Michael Moore film! Simply lovely!

American culture is taking a bit of a dive there's no denying it.. Quantity is what matters now, not quality... The American people like everything big, their cars, their homes, their land, and their silly browinsh dishwasher foam they call cappucino.

The funniest complaint I've heard when I served a latte (Lots of milk very little foam) in a normal sized glass to an American is:

    IT'S TOO STRONG!

  • I went to Italy and I tasted the most delicious cappuccino and espresso. After that I tried again the Starbucks coffee, and it was awful for me. I only go to a Starbucks when i want something xtra sweet and creamy like the frapuccinos and moka whatever choco coffee blah blah. But that's me, and I don't think Starbucks is evil or a bad place. If you don't like what they sell don't buy it. Like the video tries to say some people like/need to buy comfort, fashion, personality,... and that's ok

  • It's hard to comment only having been to Starbucks once.

But all I can say is that I'd rather drink good instant coffee than the crap they served me.

    I'll never go back.

  • not only starbucks.............

  • OPPS im thinking of a coffee as i watch this

  • Do a full release of the film, so we can get it thru Netflix?

  • We're working on it, but netflix does not negotiate directly with independent filmmakers, so it's hard. You can help by requesting it from netflix. For now, it's available on DVD at our website (cappuccinomovie) and on amazon.

  • 'Starbucks' is only a reflection of the times, there is a general public disregard for the appreciation of true craftsmanship.

Try to finding a good restaurant, or better yet, try to spot an original piece of artwork in any American home.

  • A-ha-zou!!!

  • Starbucks beans is good, but starbucks barista SUCKS BIGTIME!:)) lol

  • sstarbucks sells caffeine. their coffee however, is absolute rubbish. i have only been to one here in australia, and have never gone back

  • Indeed Starbucks is Sh*t, all i can say is at least they use fairtrade, so all these people who think they're drinking good coffée, aren't doing stupid things against coffée farmers

  • go to costa coffee ... !!!

  • "your perfect hot chocolate, because its your choice" poster with a picture of a coffee shot "why not add a shot of espresso?" why not know your product, thats a mocha not a hot chocoltae 'its your choice' grasping at straws arent we.i hate starbucks so much!!!

  • "your not convenient enoug" WTF???? real coffee drinkers will seek out a good coffee,

I always want to go into a starbucks and ask all the questions the barista would know the answer to. if they were actually a barista and not some douche steaming (not texturing) milk behind an automatci clover coffee machine.

  • welcome to the usa..the best country on the world..indeed

  • did I really see an "iced cappuccino"

because there really isn't such a thing...

and the fact that it looked like there was foam on it was hilarious...

i mean, really? your going to make an iced drink (which is technically a latte) foam milk, put it on the iced drink and call it an "iced cappuccino".....

    hahhaahhahhahaha...

    oh dear.

  • And at the end.... where you can have a decent coffee in USA? i travel a lot to vegas, LA and NY

  • Try Inteligencia Coffee in LA

  • thanks! i will look for it in google.

  • Come to my starbucks. I'll make you an excellent cappuccino.

The main problem starbucks has is there are too many customers in certain stores and not enough in others. My store has a period in the morning called BLACK OUT where there is a constant line to the door for about 3 or 4 hours. Not much time to make a perfect cappuccino.

Also, unfortunately, you can't inspire craftsmanship in people by paying them slightly over minimum wage.

Try making it yourself! Its not that hard

  • a perfect capuccino just take 20 secs on the shot and 30 to frost... so 30 seconds per capuccino I think is not too much time... starbucks just do not make good coffe.. sorry. but any coffe that is served in more than a 8oz cup is not good coffe

  • The other problem is the dark roast coffee that is used. Very bitter, and burnt out. Try light roasting and you will then start to taste good coffee. DoubleShot is where I get my coffee for my coffee house.

  • for the real cappuccino, come in Italia...

americans and the english make the past with the ketchup :(

  • Comment removed

  • il capuccino è italiano

    viva l'italia

  • youve got coffee decorating skillz! why dont you reward yourself by buying a new coffee machine? you can get one at strongvend's website. its strongvend and a co and a dot and a uk

  • I really think starbucks has overpopulated the amount of people who say they "love" the cappuccino. When they order a cappuccino at starbucks, they're getting some coffee that looks like a cappuccino, but tastes way different. As said before in the comments, Italians were the first people to make the cappuccino, and they still are the best.

FINAL VERDICT: starbucks needs to suck a dick.

  • I hate Starbucks customers who whine about there not being enough locations. It's ubiquitous. They'll only be satisfied when they're walking down the street, and every building is just Starbucks, side by side, up and down the street. It's ruining American culture, making everything bland and homogenous in order to line the pockets of people who already have more money than they'll ever be able to spend in their lifetime.

  • I think this video is stupid most of the shots of that creamy cappuccino or whatever she called em were Cafe Latte's. The rest didn't look like anything as it was so poorly done.

  • yep.. what is that terrible mess in that starbucks cup???!

  • I don't have nothing against America and Americans, i would like to live in the USA at all, but the Americans have stolen cappuccino and other types of coffee from the Italians, and they made it a well selling product.

  • Heard about this on a forum. Got excited. The beginning of the trailer has promise and then quickly seems to turn into a flick on bashing Starbucks. I think a movie about someone travelling the world looking for the perfect Cappucino would be GREAT!

Does'nt look like this is it. I could be wrong, id like to see the whole thing.

I spend a lot of time trying to find a place in my town that can make a Cappucino as good as I do at home.

  • Comment removed

  • this started off good, like i thought you'd travel the world to find the perfect cappuccino, then it turned into you bashing startbucks?! you're fucking retarded. you question your country by the coffee? you hippie bitch, stay in italy and get the fuk outta MY country!

  • I can't wait to see this movie. As an espresso fanatic, it seems really obvious to me that the success of Starbucks is WAY out of proportion to their product. So why are people lining up to give them money? It can't be just the coffee!

  • is the movie already out ?

  • Yes, it is. Check the film's website for details on screenings, etc. (The URL is at the end of the trailer.)

  • yes it the loss morals and people moving away from god that is cause for such shit standards in the US.

  • hmmm...don't really care...i like Starbucks, and I am not a big fan of Cappuccino anyway...

Besides, it's not the corporate companies destroying America...it's greed and a lack of morals and a total disregard for the one true God of individuals, which end up translating to groups.

  • Go get them! You aren't alone, just really isolated. But there are people out there in america that know what good coffee tastes like.

  • 600 stores closed world wide, not enough I say!

  • Comment removed

  • I think the sales prove something else because it's not in the cup. I participate in espresso forums and cuppings at a local roaster. I even won a latte art competition last year. The consensus of the coffee geeks is that Starbucks intentionally burns their beans to extend the shelf life and give consistent taste with various green bean inputs. Unfortunately, another effect of burning the beans is consistently burnt flavor. I'm glad you like it. Perhaps I'm not Italian enough?

  • This is hilarious. I knew you worked for Starbucks! Starbucks is the highest rated bean... By whom? You? They adhere to great roasting practices? Any info on what makes the practices great? And your Italian, so that makes you an authority... And all the Starbucks coffee is roasted in Italy, because no one else has a clue... Is that why there are so many Starbucks locations in Italy?

  • Successful business doesn't always mean great product. Is McDonald's the most successful American burger joint because they have the best hamburgers? I mean hamburgers heralded by top American chefs? Of course not, so I won't accept Starbucks' business metrics as representative of their coffee quality. On the other hand, the number of Starbucks locations in Italy is meaningful in this discussion since Italians are about taste, which you admit.

  • it is pefect cappuccino, I like, it will be popular in China in future. I am Chinese, I like coffee.

  • (Eyes rolling) In the last several years there have been SO MANY documenteries that draw huge extreme claims of the awful things big companies are doing to America and how they must be stopped. Starbucks, Disney, Wal-Mart etc. I may watch this, but I do not buy into the liberal anti-coroporate agenda that says you can expand your business and make money, but not too much where it makes us feel bad. Believe it or not liberals, Starbucks is just an extension of any independent shop.

  • Part of the problem is that Starbucks has sacrificed quality for quantity. On that point I would agree. There is a better way to make a coffee drink. I believe fair minded people can taste the difference.

  • Hmmm.... Is this coming out anywhere near Canada?

(We have Tim Horton's; no foam at all.)
