hahern: the thing is back in 88 against england we had a top team of full time professionals plaiyng at a "neutral" venue which wasn't really neutral at all as the vast majority of german fans were supporting ireland (i was there i live in germany) rovers players are part-timers and they played on partizan's home ground against a team of full-time professionals so that's why i rate rovers achievment higher as that of the 88 side. slán agus beanncht

I hope the Europa League matches are played in Tallaght, I also hope for this to be the beginning of a new era for Irish football, attracting more players from abroad,Bigger attendances,More Big name teams playing in Ireland and really, the start of a process to match the standards of other leagues in Europe, ie the Belgian league or Dutch which is a realistic standard for the LOI to aim for . I know it;s a bit early, but if the money is invested correctly the league can move forward steadfastly

Shamrock Rovers were the First League of Ireland team to play in European Competition.Must be FATE the Rovers were the FIRST IRISH SIDE in Europa League Qualifiers.Next Season Rovers will be the First Irish club in the Group stages of the Champions League.All other League of Ireland clubs must come together and work to get more league of Ireland clubs into European group stages in both the Europa and Champions League.Pity Philip Green was not around to see this achievement
