I keep coming back to this. It's already one of the most beautiful melodies, and Ugorski plays it, I have to say, perfectly. Lifschitz is a sensitive accompanist, which makes a lot of difference in the overall presentation. This may be the best performance of this piece I have ever heard.
@harrison28514 . Mr. Ugorski is a professional violinist and he's one of my favorites, and his rendition of Tchaikovsky's Melodie is the one I listen to the most. I did commend him for the vibrato, I just said that it feels harsh and tense. Never said I could do better.
I know for a fact that his bow arm is most definitely not French. His teachers, Igor and Vesna Gruppman, are known for being one of the few who actually teach the Auer bow arm, more commonly known as the Russian bow arm or grip. I would know, I studied with both of them!
I heard him with the houston symphony playing the best paganini concerto ive ever heard. it was crazy! genius player can't wait to see him play live again
Because it's a titiled "melodie" isn't it, and it is a very majestic and royal sounding piece, but it's like looking at a sculpture that's supposed to be incredibly beautiful, but the message of the beauty that's supposed to be displayed can't reach me, because some of the edges and the surface of the sculpture are jagged or have not been properly smoothed out.
It sounds beautiful and amazing in itself, but the there's something off about the violinist, at least in my opinion. I think it's the vibrato, it's sounds too forced. But then again I could always be wrong, does anyone share my opinion?
This was just beautiful! I had not heard of Eugene Ugorski before today. I hope I hear a lot more. The local classical radio station in my area plays a lot of Joshua Bell, but I think this young man is at least as good.
The bow hold is actually more French. The deep pronation gives the tone color that distinctive dark soudn that you hear up against the bridge. It really works for a piece like this. If anything it might make staccato more difficult.
He has a very signiture tone color coming from his bow arm.
THe elbow would be up over his shoulder if it were a Conventional Russian bow arm.
this is so beautiful that dislikes don`t dare appear despite being there

Although the vibrato sounds nice, it feels so rough and harsh.

beautiful technique, but i feel the vibrato is a bit too violent for such a piece.
