I remember this match was cut short cause this was right before Liger had surgury (brain I believe). Also Sasake broke his skull in the finals, wish they would do a tournament like this with modern day japan juniors, but planets aligned for the poltics not to get in the way for this one.

I grew up watching Wrestling when it was awsome. At one time WCW and WWF (I dont even acknowledge WWE) both had their acts together. You had ECW which was setting the hardcore pace and all kinds of phenominal Mexican and Japanese wrestling (New Japan was just amazing to watch, although I dont want to sell the others short). Never realized how lucky I was to have such a buffet of excellent professional wrestling.

I loved the wrestling I grew up with but when the Japanese stars made appearances, that made it so much more exciting. See Liger and Ultimo going at it was like seeing a dream match because Liger was in WCW and Ultimo was in WWE (correct me if I'm wrong). Thanks for the post. When was this match? They were young when I saw them, they could still be wrestling.

@usacyrano Ultimo Dragon only wrestled in WWE briefly in 2003-2004. Liger wrestled intermittently in WCW through the 90s.

I'd attribute it to Liger being permanently NJPW. UDragon has being used kinda sparingly in the major companies whereas Liger has for long been treated like the premier Jr Hvyweight in the world wherever he goes.

I would say this though: Ultimo Dragon's students are numerous and skilful enuff to form the rosters of Dragon Gate, Toryumon X, T2P, El Dorado and Toryumon Mexico... UDragon's influence is always going to be on wrestling.
