  • Your rendition of this piece is stunning - I have never heard it played so beautifully. I also liked the overhead view of the piano keyboard. May I ask what the purpose of your earphone was? Greetings from Scotland!

  • hi there... there arent any karaoke versions to this song around, is it ok if my friend and i use it to record over with vocals?

  • I play jazz piano and have just got a music degree, and have never heard anyone play this song so beautifully. You are a joy to listen to.x.

  • Thank you joeylovespizza. I really appreciate your comment.

  • I might be mistaken, but I think you have the influence of Bill, especially when you play ballads, I mean, the inner voices and the left hand in a very busy manner. anyway, it is really fine.

  • I've listened to a lot of Bill Evans. He really speaks to me.

  • wonderful job.!!!

  • how the hell did you get this good, what are you taking >? are you on something that i should be as well > ? lol how do you know such bloody nice chords to play. they all sound unbelievable, your licks are just amazing. what am i missing where do you learn all this stuff, .

  • Thanks, hannspree12345. I just listen to a lot of different musical styles. I take bits and pieces and try to make it my own. Thanks again.

  • Dear mr. pianist..

I Won't be able to describe orally the way you caused my such excitement. I have never heard in my very life such a patient, mesmerizing playing. Keep on recording and performing.

  • Thank you so much Putytand. And thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments.

  • such beautiful playing. the ending was sooo gorgeous.

  • Beautiful. Do you have a tutorial on scale harmonization? You are the best on that subject.

  • Thanks. Sorry, I don't.

  • Great playig and great sound/miking

  • i got the score, thinking it over at the moment. My version is comming :P

  • Very original... a true artist.

  • Eubop You are truly one who inspires! Not only is your technical ability is superb, the interpretation of each song you play seems to fit perfectly. You can mingle in and out of the chord changes and still keep the continuity flowing. In the case of this song, ( you're right) there is something about the changes and also your version of this piece that makes me want to listen to it over and over again. You are truly an artist in i'ts purist form.

  • Thanks Eubop. I really appreciate your kind words.

  • I love it , every seconds. Good touch!

  • ooh gorgeous.. I will check out the teaching.. I love this :D

  • kevchizzie, Thanks. Bill Evans is a major influence.

  • another great vid... im always amazed by the amount of rhythm you can imply while still leaving so much space. love the HD too

  • Like all your postings ít´s a real pleasure, highest professional standard by the best amateur here on youtube.

  • i have a question.

When you play, how much of what you do is by ear, in other words, just letting the fingers move where they should.

and how much is actually practicing the chnages and analyzing it?

  • Donotclickonthis, I use voicings and patterns I am familiar with. A different take would be similar, but with different variations on the basic changes. One way I try to get away from that is to change the key, which forces me to use a different approach.

  • Particular great harmony and impro Tom.

    Elegant dynamic touch.

I do not know if you have changed anything, but it seems that your piano has a sound different from before.

    Terrific post * * * * *

  • Thanks Alfonso -- new hammers that have been voiced. Good ears.

  • ....In fact, I had noticed some change....

I think that now you have even more fun with the top available control to the full dynamic.... again 5 ***** for having changed hammers, a really beautiful sound :-)

  • Very moving. I always look forward to your videos.

  • Absolutely awesome!!!. It make me feel and extremelly good quality of image & sound!. Congratulations

  • You have truly reached a level of improvisational playing many aspire tp achieve, but very few can ever reach. Always an inspiration for the listener and player alike,

  • Thanks, jimbomed. I appreciate it.

  • absolutely great. *****

  • とても繊細な演奏だと思います。

Its a very nice and delicate performance.

  • Incredible sensitivity, superior dynamic range, and a totally confident performance.

    Outstanding.

  • Fantastico :)!

  • masterly as usual, great Tom

  • high quality in every way!

    very clean playing! perfect.

this is youtube on the highest level!

  • With the deft grace and style of a panther prowling Gotham, this was just fantastic, Tom! And the HQ video and sound is superior! So happy you have a website, and RSS, too! Best wishes from SoFL.

  • haha! great image, BocaFriend!

  • Oh man, this is absolutely gorgeous. I found myself smiling when it got enjoyable in the middle-end part of the video.

I really hope that you keep posting these high quality performances (both in resolution and playing). They're very inspirational since I've just started to learn improvisation about a year ago.

Also, I have to ask. The recording quality and the piano is awesome. What size of Steinway is that? And how do you record the beautiful Steinway?

    Thanks so much!

  • Think it's a B

  • The Ishter, yes, it's a B. I record a separate audio track which I add later. I use two omni mics spaced 12 inches apart two feet outside the case of the piano. Fortunately, the room has pretty good acoustics.
