  • Hamburger Bildungsserver brought me here!!

  • City people get everything they have from country people. Just watch dirty jobs and you will see how important country farmers and workers really are. City people pay for everything they could do themselves like plumbing and repair. Their laziness is what makes cities so wealthy and grow

  • Love the city Muppet. And when he said cats I thought he meant the animal. Didn't understand the slang back then.

  • CITY IS BETTER

  • Is the country girl sung by Fran Brill or Marilyn Sokol (Lovely eleven morning)?

  • 1:03-1:06 Is he saying "...a game of stickball in the gutter..."? Is there a different definition of "gutter" in city lingo than the "ditch" alongside the roads for rain drainage?

  • @stevedogan It was a game at the time. Stickball was similar to baseball. Also, gutters have always been around. It is what you said.

  • Stereotypes, but such very happy ones, would that we could be so contented...

Okay, I'll admit I would like the Country Gal and City Dude get together... oh well

  • i MISS THIS :( GOD I FEEL OLD......THIS IS WHEN Sesame Street was AMAZING!!!!! NOW IT SUCKS ASS-CHUCKS!

  • That dude is sooooo groovy!!

  • maryln sokol singing yay!

  • dude from the city reminds me of Tony Danza still awesome though love it

  • Moving from barcelona to a small village in France in the next few days so thinking about how to explain this to my 3yr old - might just show her this...

  • @splums

I am sure that she could benifit from seeing this routine!

  • The city guy sounds like a stoner.

Notice at 1:19, he gets hit by a car.

The cowgirl is super cute. Her voice sounds like Joan Cusack.

  • look at gladys

  • Perfect comparison of me & my friend Leo . =D love ittt.

  • @ilovemyboochris haha yeaa this describes it all lmaooo cool... yhur country im city ..lol

  • @Slipknotfanleo93 - Exactlyyy :)

  • He is a kool kat.

  • I remember this catchy tune fondly. While most of my life has been spent living in the country, I also have a little 'city living' experience as well.

  • The muppet for the city is very appropriate. He looks high like many city folkes. lol. Don't hate me I'm joking.

  • @jem2envi

It is good to know that you have a sense of humor!

  • The same man from the subway song.

  • this is when seasame street was AWESOME! now its gay!!!!!!

  • Man this stuff is so cool - cool back then still cool now!!!

  • Im a country person. I live out in the counrty and ride horses

  • @phoenix21x MOOOO! :)

  • I'm a city gal!! ^_^

  • @teenangel93 Say, I'll let you come over and get some milk out of my silo. *giggle* (mooo!)

  • That city guy is like a muppet version of Jim Morrison.

  • I like the city too. we have ducks in the park. Andother animals in the aquariu, zoo, buttterfly pavilion, and wildlife refuge.

  • The city guy looks drugged LOLLLL

  • Stereotypical.

  • True, but they are of the best qualities of each. Don't you wish the Country/City was this enjoyable?

  • I think that was the problem (as they saw it) with SS overall.........and it marked the death nell for all the golden classics............by comparison the new one is a paralysed, strangled PC fest...........it can never be the same, which is a tragedy. In theory, they cant do anything now.........everythings off linlits. Its amazing they can continue at all.

  • The country one is so sterotypical.

  • So is the city one.

  • That's Jim Henson!

  • The city guy looked like he got hit by a car at 1:20.

  • I like living in the city

  • the city guy scares me

  • Yeah, where's his eyes.

  • those lines are his eyes LOL

  • They should be pen pals! :)

  • I love the city! <3

    scat a dat dat yeahhh!

  • I love the city! <3

    scat a dat dat yeahhh!

  • City muppet for life!!!!

  • @Huey0001 Hey, how about going out cow tipping with me? Then I'll take you out in my barn and let you see how much milk you can get out of 1 of the heifers. What do you city kids do for June Dairy Month? :)

  • country all the way

  • @toad4eva MOO! :)

  • i feed the chicks but i dont know if they still like to be called chicks

  • I feed the chicks milk on a daily basis.

  • I'd hide that Noggin logo if I were you.

  • Well this was posted last year, back when it was okay to upload material from Noggin.

  • Interestingly, clips with older Noggin logos were left up. I guess viacom didn't care about those.

I always liked this one as a kid. Jim and Marilyn make pretty good duet. I sure am glad this is on Old School Volume 2.

  • Because this was uploaded back in 2006, when it was still OK to have material from Noggin up on here.

  • That's true, but there were other clips uploaded that year which were deleted back in February of last year. And those clips had the most recent Noggin logo. I think that might have something to do with it.

  • I remember this!!!

  • Great classic clip on differences between rural and urban areas.

  • Didn't this green mand sing another song? The subway song.

  • I suppose the Country Girl and City Guy could be considered stereotypes in these PC times, but they do look quite happy with themselves.

  • The country girl and city guy oughta get together.

  • One of my favorites when I was younger!

  • Is the city guy stoned? LOL

  • A country farm girl was voiced by Marilyn Sokol. I was right.

  • Might wanna cover up the Noggin logo before the Viacom people have a fit.

  • Yeah. Time for a little censorship there.

  • Well he hasn't been here in five months so we might as well deal with it till Viacom throws a fit.

  • consider yourself warned.

  • this song is awesome

  • So which of these two Muppets has more emotional baggage? It would seem that the city dude is a moody, temperamental artist but I'll just bet that the country gal has some heartbreak too.

Seeing the dark side of the Muppets since 1968.

  • I loved the funny ending with the cow.

  • " forgieve me Jim Henson where ever you are! "

  • city dude's got that neil diamond cotton candy 'do going on

  • I've always loved this skit! Catchy tune and lyrics!!

  • Late 70's or very early 80's

  • Was this a 70's clip? The city Muppet has a very '70's type do, you know?

  • I love this clip. See how a Yankee and a Redneck can get along? j/k :-P Seriously, I love how they combined country western music with cool jazz in this song.

  • I really like when Jim performs Muppet Hippesters.

  • Yeah, his groovy hipster muppets really took the spotlight during the 70s.

  • Home Sweet Home

  • I remember this!

  • If Jerry Nelson played him he would have to sound like Floyd cause he's got that real hip voice

  • The city muppet's hair looks a lot like Don Music's hair to me.

  • I always thought the city muppet was groovy!

  • yeah i thought so too! :D

  • Jim Henson always made his muppet characters so hip.

I wish Steve Whitmire kept up the tradition when he took over some of Jim's characters after his death.

  • Jim Henson always made his muppet characters so hip.

I wish Steve Whitmire kept up the tradition when he took over some of Jim's characters after his death.

  • Don't bother...nothing can replace Jim.

  • I always loved this skit. The tune is pretty catchy and it has a nice message. However, muppets with no eyes (just eyebrows) are quite disturbing...........

  • yeah it is kind of disturbing when muppets have no eyes. :D

  • I think its fran brill as the girl i hear a little bit of red fraggle in her voice? if im wrong please let me know

  • I don't know for sure, but I think it's the same woman who did Emmet Otter's Ma. Sounds exactly the same to me in parts....?

  • Marilyn Sokol, the voice behind Ma Otter, did indeed provide voice talent for several Sesame sketches in the 70's. If this sketch dates from that decade, then it's entirely possible. By the way, Karen Prell, not Fran Brill, performed Red Fraggle. (Fran was busy with Sesame during production of Fraggle Rock.)

  • Listen carefully to the city dude's singing and the music playing to his portion of the song....it's Very close to Van Morrison's "Moondance"! LOL.

  • That's Jim Henson's voice. If you listen carefully you can tell that it's his voice. I think that the sketch PiLfan is thinking of is the story of the country and the city mouse.

  • Yep. I'd know Jim Henson's voice talents for his muppets anywhere.

By the way, the cow in the farm scene, I noticed that that's the same puppet used for Gladys the Cow.

  • @BipBippadotta

I remember the "Sesame Street" version of The Country Mouse and the City Mouse. Very well done! The last time I checked, it was also uploaded onto You Tube.

  • The city muppet almost made me cry. It must be because of his voice. By the way, do you know who performed him? On the other hand, I like the country girl's voice. Very nice.

  • Cool!! I remember this one! The guy muppet is the same one used in the Subway! skit i think, sans the sunglasses.

There was another country/city bit like this, but involved two brothers or cousin muppets...forget how it goes, but i remember it had both an english and spanish version.

  • he's not the same as in subway i don't think

  • Nope. He's not the same muppet.

  • I think I liked the farm girl better.
