Greenpeace does not aks for money for a specific cause, it's on of the strictest policies of Greenpeace. No donation can ever be earmarked for a certain campaign.

The money donated to Greenpeace is distributed according to yearly set rules. Som countries which few monetary means receive money from donations made in other countries where a lot of donations are received.

Fight for whales is just one of many campaigns that are fought, but whaling campaigns are extremely costly. Among other fights are: Illegal fishing, destruction of world oceans, protection of areas on land and in the oceans, saving the Orangutan, Rainforrests, Arctic oil drilling, banning of dangerous pesticides, GMO, Nuclear, Coal, etc.

What does Greenpeace want a new ship for they haven't done anything useful with the ones they have for decades. It certainly will not be going to Antarctica to defend the whales like they claim to do. Greenpeace is a business and what they really want is your money.

Where would Earth be w/o Greenpeace who started it all back in the 1980s, before other environmental groups sprung up soon after. Sad to say many organizations what are not what they claim to be & take donations from the very entities ruining the Earth with oil, plastic, chemicals & other toxins. There aren't exactly any hard feelings btwn Greenpeace and SSCS. They have collaborated from time to time during confrontations against whalers. Keep in mind that both organisations have different mandates. Though they both apply direct action, Greenpeace is more of an advocay and pressure group, while Sea Shepherd acts more like an ocean-police.

HEY EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT SSCS: Greenpeace expelled Paul Watson because of his "unpeaceful" tactics. this was how SSCS was created. He is not welcome in meetings and movements. So I ever doubt that Greenpeace will ever work with Sea Shepherd.

I love and support greenpeace but would really like it if Greenpeace starts working with Sea Shepherd. U know there is always ways to compromise about different tactics and things like that. GO BOTH SEA SHEPHERD AND GREENPEACE!!!

Greenpeace should help SSCS out even if u dont want to use their tactics. Just help each other out and you could save a lot more marine wildlife. For example if SSCS and GP go out in the Mediterranean and find an illegal bluefin tuna fisher. You could protest and film while sscs will release the tuna and film also. Win-Win situation come on greenpeace!

@venturafor2012 I didn't realise that the Sea Shepherd had become an endangered species requiring help.

But I do know that Greenpeace have been peacefully informing the public about the Whaling practices for a long time. To attack these Whalers in international waters will just get more and more violent as time goes on until some one gets seriously hurt, not good To answer your other question, I believe the ship will be wind powered with auxiliary biodiesel.
