Rockefeller did initiate new programs to help address workers grievances after this event, however they were company based and not individual unions. In reality this strike achieved what it set out for, except for the recognition of the United Mine Workers of America. The 10 days war which followed this event all over colorado is a much more interesting event, as millions of dollars of coal company property was destroyed, and colorado workers went into a state of rebellion.
Be on your guards. These situations could come back. Today's billionaires are of the same kind then the ones in these days. For them, the ideal employee is one that works until he dies and asks nothing in return.
It's a shame that in US there is so much people hating true socialism (bolshevism excluded) and libertarian socialism ideas. Without people fighting and struggling for these ideals the working class would have been totally turned in to mindless slaves without any consiousness of their position in the capitalist hierarchy. But whatever, ideology is not most important thing becouse as long as there will be people fighting for their emancipation for whatever reasons, the struggle will not be lost.
If you want to get an idea what was the struglle in the days just watch movies like F.I.S.T. or even better Stanley Kramer's "Oklahoma Crude" (1973) starring George C. Scott and Faie Dunaway.
my husband and i lived in trinidad colorado in the year of 2005-2006 and we decided one night to go visit this site with some friends and you wouldnt beleive the paranormal activity we caught on video and digital cameras!! IT WAS VERY VERY WICKED!!!
I have actually been to ludlow, and me and my friends and some family experienced paranormal activities in the hinged-door that leads into the death pit.we have voices on video, and the spirits physicaly touched our camera by turning it around when we left it down there for research.
I hope a feature film about this story is made one day. the brave efforts of all these laborers and leaders, especially mother jones, must be brought to light.
from wikipedia "John Davison Rockefeller (July 8, 1839 May 23, 1937) was an American industrialist. Rockefeller revolutionized the petroleum industry and defined the structure of modern philanthropy." ....PHILANTHROPY???
( I dont dare to imagine what would have happened if he defined the structure of modern misanthropy!)
OK THAT EXPLAINS MANY FOR THE SITUATION OF THE WORLD TODAY
@ 3:28 did you know you were looking at the United States of Americas Civilian ( non-military banner ) banner ( flag ) for most civilian operations?
The real history of this land is build on blood. Why does a guy that points and tells another to dig feel he has some superiority over the digger, for a few dollars? Fed-Constitutional Rights extend at all times and all places even the "work place".
Ludlow massacre episode is pretty known here in Italy. Rockefeller was just a gangster who got respectablity after commiting many crimes. It's something that reminds me a bit about nowadays russian businessmen.
@yepheth Rockefeller's biggest heist was creating todays Federal Reserve System. It's the perfect robbery, backed by politicians and egomaniacal academic economists. Notice how it was Govt who did the massacre and not Capitalists. Govt is not the solution, govt is the problem.
@dons123111 it's amazing to get a reply after more than a year, that can happen only for no-mainstream videos like that one, where comments don't get hidden under ton of crap in a sec so they are still visible after many time. And often we have interesting replies, like yours. What do you mean with Govt? is it an acronime or what?
@dons123111 The Gov't was working on behalf of the Capitalists, early Corporations. The best Gov't money can buy. Still serving the interests of Big Business first, before the needs of the People even today.
@retroflow44 Corporations are the combining of business with government, whether they are regulators that keep competition out, or politicians giving out political favors for returns in support$. Ludlow is a Typical Coporate/Government Fascistic slaughter. Bureacrats have no expertise, they have authority bestowed on them by the people, Business has the expertise, and write their own rules with the blessing from these authoritarians. Combined they create an elite priviledge class.
@yepheth ... You can guess why the Ludlow massacre is not well-known in the United States. It's not "bosses." It's not "corporations." It's the system that allows corporations and their "bosses" (i.e. CEOs & corporate boards) to dominate everything people do in the U.S. They now do it so well most Americans don't even realize they lost their voices in vote. As of Jan. 2010, elections in the U.S. are directly paid for by corporations, who set up candidates & their platforms & run campaigns.
Thanks for this great video. It is especially pertinent as our country debates passage of the Employee Free Choice Act. Too many Americans forget about the awful sacrifices that our country men and women have made so that they can live in a house, send a kid to college and have a decent life. God bless the Ludlow martyers.
Thanks so much for posting this rememberance of all those who have lost their lives trying to fight for living wages and working conditions. These poor souls died so all could live better. May they rest peacefully.
Well done. They never mentioned things like this when I was in school. Ludlow's such a lonely place. I hope they bust the a-holes who desecrated the memorial. My grandfather was a mining engineer who lived in Trinidad & did work for CF&I.
great job
