  • Jesus how this rocks!

  • absolute killer harp!

  • this is the real deal! always nice to revert to your channel once in while, to clean the pipes and put everything in the right perspective. I like to believe that I could rival this but probably its just self deception, and the harmonica would pose the biggest problem I'd guess, while the singing and guitar I can manage roughly :-)

  • Je suis amoureuse de toi.

  • @NielleDesBles

    Hey it's my lucky day

  • What key is the harp?

  • @PavelMcBurney

It's a Hohner blues harp key of A

  • Can I steal your precious talent? I don't mind.

  • lovin it

  • Felicitaciones desde Uruguay...Bob would be glad to hear this cover.

  • absolutely awsome! best cover by far!!!

on the G7 with the hammer on, are you playing the 1st string open them hammerin on and pulling off again or do u play it with finger on the 1st then do the open hammer on/pull off? Thanks in advance :)

  • @pinkblackpudding

I play the 1st string open them hammer on and pull off again.

    Cheers,

    JD

  • Ohhh my god... best cover ever man, i'm dead serious.

  • respect from Rotterdam.

  • This is amazing

  • FUCKING SPOT ON!! i love it. great cover!

  • You have really done a supurb cover of this great, great song! You mentioned that you are playing a Yamaha LD10E. Did you have any custom work done on this guitar after you bought it? It really sounds great!

By the way, do you do a cover of "Desolation Row" by Dylan?

Do you play out at any folk clubs?

  • @folkmusicgirl Thanks,

It is actually not a bad guitar (hand made, solid spruce soundboard and all that stuff).

I might have sanded the bridge a wee bit maybe to lower the action but that would be all.

Have never tried Desolation Row I don't think.

Haven't done a folk club since Newport.

    Cheers,

    JD

  • Nice one ma man; ah'll tell Bob

  • Omg John, that truly is the best cover I've ever seen. I've been playing on and off for years. You really have inspired me to pick it back up. Maybe one day I'll play like that. Dont think I'll try the singing and harmonica tho. Excellent co-ordination keep it up!!!

  • Goddam that's friggin great Jonn! Great harp, great travis. Love your G7 hammer ons but most of all how in the hell can you keep up that flawless picking and tempo while playing great harp at the same time? Incredible.

  • Wish i could play this i love this song, ive got a house full of guitars and yet i play a few cords and give up hahaha

  • holy moly you're shredding that shit man. i like your version a lot, i posted mine as a response but it's a lot more modest i am not that good at guitar or harmonica. again, awesome job

  • wow,, ive been trying to play this song,,

    u r pretty amazin

  • What harmonica are you using? :)

  • @henrik929

    It's a Hohner blues harp (A)

  • Best cover of this song on Youtube, I can't stop watching

  • You are absolutely incredible. I wish i could finger pick this like you. A+++

  • awesome

  • Excellent! It really is a great song, and to see you play and sing it is inspiring. About time to try and play it myself (over the next few years...). And Happy 70th Birthday to Mr. Dylan, I've just found my favourite song alive and enjoyed by many :-)

  • Great job !!... All that fiddly stuff reminds me why I play bass John ... :-))

  • What kind of Guitar is that?

  • @DontEatMeBlueCookie

    It's a Yamaha LD10E from about 1990

  • @JonnDalton Thanks mate. That guitar Sounds sweet Epic cover.

  • brilliant mate... only a few hours ago i finally managed to play this song sounding good and close to the original, after giving up for almost two years.Great job man.

I played with the capo on the 3rd fret. I've noticed you play it on the fourth, would by any chance the harmonica be in the key of E?

  • awesome job man..its just C and G w/ hammerons ?

  • @TheTerriblyTerrific1

Cheers. There are a couple more chords than that.

    C, G7, Am, Am(Gbass), F, C, G7

    C, G7, Am, Am(Gbass), D7(F#bass), G

    C, C7, F, D7(F#bass)

    C, G7, Am, Am(Gbass), F

    C, G7, C,

    All the best,

    JD

  • @JonnDalton o tru thx

  • Holy Hell!!! I want to dislike this video because I want to be able to do this but I know that I cannot. Great Freaking Work my friend!

  • Hi, can you tell me where you found the tabs, because the one i found sound wrong

    very nice cover btw

  • Your rendition of this is nothing short of fantastic!!! I'm sure you're aware the guitar on the original was probably played by Bruce Langhorne, not Dylan himself. If Dylan ever decides to do a re-make close to the original, and Langhorne isn't available, he should look you up!!! Awesome!!!

  • @stackolee1959 That's very interesting, if true. In my teen years I tried to emulate the guitar picking on Dylan's "Don't Think Twice", and just couldn't get the sound right until I finally realized that it's done with only two fingers - thumb and forefinger. Never heard of Bruce Langhorne before, but I see that he lost the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand when he was seven. That lends some weight to the argument that he's the one playing guitar on Dylan's original version.

  • TALENT IS GROWING ON THE TREES !

God you must get laid alotttt

    wuushhhhh damn too much,

finger picking on such an hard song,

also singing with it and I know that needs great cordination for both

and plus you also got this harmonica (or w.e it is)..

    Damn nice!

  • Your playing sounds that good... I'm so jealous.. I've just started playing this beautifull song and your video is a very usefull help.

    Nice Fingerwork and Harp playing...

    Greetings from Germany

  • Great cover man.

  • Really, really beautiful. Well done.

  • Listening again different YTubbers trying to render this song.

Your version is definitedly 'high class'.

    Chapeau!!

  • This is absolutely amazing! I could practise for 10 years and not get it this good.

  • wow im speachless ! :)

  • who said guys couldn't multi task!

    seriously great cover!

  • To skypoetone, the fellow who wanted to know about Tabs. First, go to Ulitimate guitar tabs.com,they have it all. Second, the harp that I play this song with when the capo is on the fourth fret, as is here, is a Harp in the Key of A. It seems to work better especially in the lower notes on that harp. Now go have some fun!!

  • Best cover of this song...thanks mate.

  • Totally respectful to Mr. Dylan! This is an excellent cover!!!!

  • Do you play Dylan's "I Want You" ? I've yet to hear a good cover but I think you would do it wonders - have a go and post it JD.

  • Cheers JD - will do.

  • You are fantastic! Better then the original! At least I like it better!

  • This is really good!

  • I love to play this too, but man I could never pick it like you do - I'm a chord player with ambitions to pick. The harp sounds just as beautiful with the pickin'. I have noted that you play the harp in all the right places but I have one concern in that I cannot find the right C harp tabs for this song - can you point me in the right direction???

  • Cheers skypoetone.

Don't waste your time looking for harp tabs. Just play around with it until it sounds right.

    All the best.

    JD

  • @skypoetone did you know that bob dylan had just died today?

  • by far the best cover ive ever heard im learning it and can play it but cant play it as good as you, please WILL YOU DO A TUTORIAL video so i can master that b-e-a-utiful song that it is,

  • pure excellence...

  • you have your spin on this. put it out"""

  • I like it! :D

Has someone the original version of Dylan?

  • you're awesome man!! that's one of most difficul dylan's songs for guitar and harp..

  • Great rendition.Best yet on the tube- especially the harp. What holder are you using for the harp?

  • @jnklaz

    Cheers jnklaz

    It's a Jim Dunlop holder

  • @jnklaz

    It's a Jim Dunlop holder.

    Cheers.

    JD

  • great cover man! keep up the good work (dont think twice) ! ;)

  • AWESOME STUFF. Very well done.

  • MUSIC.

  • Nice work Jonn, an excellent cover, am learning this song myself and this is the best cover version on the internet, I should know, I have been searching for 3 years and its so good, in fact, its better than any of Dylan's live versions, as he just strums it, but I heard, in certain circles, thats because it was Bruce Langhorne and not Dylan who played this piece on the record?

  • i was under the impression it was done in E but its A?

  • awesome ... reallly really good =)

  • record it better and put it on itunes please. i get late night cravings for this song

  • Fuck, this actually brought tears to my eyes..

Can't even remember the last time it happened.. Great cover, thanks for sharing dude..

  • love it :)

  • Absolutely perfect, I really enjoy it

  • Great cover !

  • You are fantastic

  • I wish i could do that half as well. just half

  • Sounds Great!

  • Nicely done friend

  • nice! :D

  • Wow, this is a brilliant cover... Cheers!

  • This is really, really good.

  • good shit sir way better than all the other covers of this song ive seen.

  • Dear god...that picking pattern is absolutely beautiful! Amazing work...

I do a lot of fingerpicking, but I've got to admit...I really need to learn a few more styles, because this is just wonderful.

  • My guitar teacher gave me this song and told me to look it up to get a proper perspective how to play it. I think you for such a beautiful version to base it off of.

  • Hallo !!!

Sehr gut gespielt ,kannst Du mir vieleicht die tabulatur schicken ?

    liebe Grüsse aus Bayern ,Deutschland

  • well done man

  • the best version ever AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sweet version. Can't wait to get it downloaded to play on my larger screen and watch the finger work. Been playing this more PP&M style for years and always wanted to do more dylan-esque version ala freewheelin so now have the model to practice to. I'm new to harp so presume from what I do know that you are using A as cross harp playing in key of E since you're capoing up to 4.

  • Wow, best cover that I've ever heard...

  • did I ever tell you what a fucking good cover this is? :) Long to record this myself, just bought the A harmonica and started practising, but cant do it like you but will have to utilise multi-track recording but even so will not be able to match your harmonica.

  • Cheers Jonas,

Look forward to seeing your version posted.

  • P.S your lungs need to be working overtime for the harp on this one. Particularly the ending. All the best.

    Jon

  • Such crisp picking, just beautiful. This is one of my favorite tunes ever and you nailed it friend.

  • Cheers tamlindd

  • I like your version!! Great!!

  • Good man

  • Awesome!!

  • Cheers man

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • perfect!

  • It sounds exactly like the way Bruce Langhorne picked in on the Freewheelin albumn. You do realize, that this makes you a better guitarist than Dylan, since he never did learn how to pick this. His playing in live concerts doesn't come close.

  • are you meaning to say that Dylan didnt pick the original version? But there are no credits about this on record, or is it? I feel fooled to not have known this for all these long years! :(

  • ME TOO.

  • I'm a bit shocked to learn this.

  • @UtzChips2009 The Bruve Langhorne thing is a bit of a rumour, Dylan is very good at guitar, it's just like a lot of artists/bands if you can play it a little bit simpler live, they (most of the time) will.

  • Glad to hear it Jordan.

  • Awesome cover man...just awesome :)

Tell me have you ever thought of putting up some instrumental versions so people could try laying down the vocal themselves?

Sounds kinda lame I know but I reckon it would go down a storm...just a thought

  • not suggesting there's anything wrong with your vocals in saying that though, cause there aint, great performance all round

  • very good harmonica!, further if you are familiar with this kind of picking and with the song, it can also serve as an instruction video, thanks to the very good view of the hands. I have no problems following what you do (at least with the lefty that is)

  • Jesus, this is a joy to watch, amazing that you dont make any major errors in almost 4 minutes play time, there's a lot of things going on there...

  • Perhaps what separate you from the pack is the nice bouncy feel in the picking? It's hard to achieve, ask me :)

  • thats a killer cover jonn, not that many dylan covers here impress me but this one does. Takes only 3 secs to realize that this is serious. Harmonica works very well, most morons never realised how good bob was on harmonica, they just dont get it because they never ever tried it themselves. I sit in front of the screen and play along with you and think Im roughly on par with you but if I record it, it wont sound that good :(
