Though "thechangingtimes" must be complimented for not disingenuously invoking the "it's for the children" line in why teachers shouldn't request a CEA political refund. Because fighting to increase teacher salaries regardless of performance clearly ISN'T about the children. There are better ways to pay teachers that actually help improve student learning, but you won't see the CEA advocating for them.
Colorado teachers can decide for themselves whether their $700 - $800 a year in CEA / NEA dues is getting them their money's worth. And they can decide if they want back that $39 EMO political piece that goes far beyond advocating for higher salaries (which incidentally, is decided at the local level), too. The deadline every year is December 15.
Does getting a starting salary of 40K and ending salary above 80K sound like a good "political" cause? if so...please keep sending in dues to CEA. If not and your happy making what you make...then by all means don't contribute to the largest voice you have with state politicians- who fund your paycheck incidentally.
