Question. Why is it a major 2 chord (with a not occurring in C major F# as the third) and not the occurring within the scale minor 2? Or does the Nashville Number System assume major unless stated otherwise? Or is it actually a modal scale with a raised fifth scale tone, but you play a flat fifth chord? Or is it the simple matter of the F# merely being an accidental?
nice lesson! hey, i was wondering if you would mind posting a tutorial video of ''write you a song'' by the plain white t's if you get an oppurtunity. i appreciate all of your videos. i learned guitar in 3 days because of you. thanks and keep posting.
Hey m an thanks for this , you explained the caged system better than anyone ive seen before , made alot more sense, and also the numbering syste.... great playing, great lesson man... Thanks alot. wish i lived near all these youtube guitar teachers, or atleast one so i could take some lessons
Great video. Not only was it very informative but also very entertaining. You are a great guitar player and great teacher. Keep doing what you're doing and we will keep learning.
Tell you what. Never checked out the CAGED system but it's pretty cool to get beginner to intermediate players used to different versions of chords. Didn't realise that it just took the shapes of open chords and put them in different positions. They're not strictly inversions are they, 'forms' is a good word. Like it a lot.
Great video as always, however the first chord of the bridge is III7, i.e. in Cmaj it's an E7! You can also play a D7 instead of Dm in the following few bars. Funks it up a little.
Erich every time I become tired of playing guitar I just put one of these videos on, before I notice it my guitar is back on my lap and I'm sooo eager to learn.
Thanks for the motivation, you are my only real teacher.
Erich, that was awesome - had a little bit of a brain melt due to overload but that is awesome info. I need to go CAGED school for a bit, off to the woodshed. Remember everyone - if it was easy everyone would be good!! Thank you O-Sage-e-wan :)
I lost interest when your "c-like chord" looked nothing like a c-chord at around 6:30. I'd rather you tell us exactly what it is you are doing so we can actually do it too.
Wow there is so much great information in here, you might want want to rename the title to include the caged and number system. Best/easiest explanation yet on these systems hidden behind a title I almost didn't watch. I have both your e-books, great job!
@parmezans got my info from many places, music theory helps a lot to understand people like Yourguitarsage, when they are giving a lesson, I gotta check that e-book, but these youtubers were also of enormous help to me : Richardjpugh, Waltribeiro, etc etc, so many good people in You tube, Thanks so much to everyone, they make me enjoy music a lot more.
@tullkass14 If you are changing key, you are really just changing the whole song by moving it up or down a certain number of steps (just like putting on a capo). Major and minor chords are about the number of steps between the notes of the individual chord (A major = AC#E, A minor=ACE). If you changed the song to Dm you would both move the pitch of the song, but you'd also change the type of chords you play.
I've been watching your videos for over a year, I bought your e-book, I quit taking lessons because i was learning so much more from you in your song tutorials and technique tutorials so i have to ask.... Why do you always look like you just roll out of bed and turn the camera on to make your videos? You do an awesome job of breaking the songs down step by step BTW.
I don't know why but to me you look like house! :L Great video's by the way they really help! :)
