To play devil's advocate, if you patented a product, you want to make a profit, and people illegally downloading that product means said profit is lost. I don't disagree that seems more about territory rights than losing a significant amount of money, but I'd have to do more research on the matter. My thing on SOPA is that it ads that "Streaming" content on a website would be a felony, even if the source of the streamed content is licensed and as such (under DMCA) passes down those license rights to users by allowing direct embedding of their content on users' sites.

Stop SOPA now is not even a fraction of what this bill really is. I have the senate bill in front of me. It is nothing short of internet death sentence. It basically turns over power to content providers, Government enforcement agencies, & your ISP to be internet cop. They basically decide what is considered copyright and what is not. To play devil's advocate, if you patented a product, you want to make a profit, and people illegally downloading that product means said profit is lost. I don't disagree that seems more about territory rights than losing a significant amount of money, but I'd have to do more research on the matter. My thing on SOPA is that it ads that "Streaming" content on a website would be a felony, even if the source of the streamed content is licensed and as such (under DMCA) passes down those license rights to users by allowing direct embedding of their content on users' sites.
