DC-10's always scared the crap out of me ! The engine configuration freaked me out. I used to cater aircraft @ SFO and these birds actually had an elevator for the food trollies in coach. Similar to B747-400 first class, but the food on DC-10 was stored BELOW - in a strange room next to the cargo ! Just a massive yet stubby jet !
any pilot that flies a large jet using analog instruments is a good pilot in my book... there is something about analog that requires more skill than with glass... to me anyway. But, of course glass is more efficient and safe.
We flew Omni Air DC-10-30 from Kuwait to USA and back. It was the most comfortable inter-continental ride I've EVER been on. That Omni Air DC-10 is a wonderful aircraft and the crew was excellent as well.
Easiest way to tell a DC-10 from an MD-11 externally is the MD-11 is about 20 feet longer than a DC-10 and the MD-11 also has standard winglets. If you can't tell them apart, just look at the wingtips. DC-10s don't have the winglets.
MD-11 is the newer DC-10 with upgraded avionics and does not have a flight engineer panel. They got rid of DC-10's because of age and safety records. So the MD-11 is pretty much the newer, safer, DC-10.
they should repaint the centerline. I would imagine that landing under IFR conditions it would be a little more comforting to see that centerline rather than just black pavement.
Its a real shame there's only really Boeing and Airbus aircraft around now. I'm about to start my training as a commercial pilot in September but I would have loved to have flown an old bird like the 707, 747 Classic or the Tristar/DC-10. The aircraft now are technological marvels but are very sterile and dont have the same character. But as I said on another thread, it still beats the hell out of sitting in an office!
Dc 10 is a great airplane, I have a lot of flying hours in that old lady, true there's been accidents before but if you gonna get, you will get in any airplane.
awesome! its ironic the Captain looks very young and the First Officer looks a lot older. Well I didnt see the captains face though so... well nice quality. OAI does a lot of charters to HNL
i don't think you are coz all the passangers lives cud be at risk ie. people could bomb the plane. that's why only employees and training pilots can sit in the jumpseat.
Swweet video that was awesome and it was a nice landing! I was wondering are you like a pilot in training? You are so lucky to get in the jumpseat or whatever it called how did you get to sit in it?
was 8R made yet?

@Thebmwisthebest Rudder size, overall length, wing sweep, MTOW are the primary things that come to mind first.

I thought OAI only flew 757's. When did they get DC-10's???
seoceancrosser 3 years ago
they got dc-10's even before they got 757

Almost every aircraft type has had one or more horrific accidents...does that prevent you from flying on them as well?

You wont get in a North American Major airline unless your a pilot riding jumpseat.
But if you go to Europe ect. you probably wont have a problem going in for shots atleast.
