I can't see why some people say MJ copied james browns dance moves, in this video the only similarity in dance between them I see is the spins( and the "moonwalk" or something similar to it)
MJ was inspired by james brown, but his moves were nothing like james brown's, MJ created his own dancing style.
james brown seems to have a "sharper" dance style and more difficult footwork than MJ, I honestly can't see why some people accuse MJ of copying him.
@MJforeverInMyHeart92 ..i agree ...but Mj's dancing is very similar to Fred Astaire though ...look at Fred astaire's videos ..james brown was more Funk ..Mj was more pop and had Classic dance stlye!
I've seem him a couple of times live and his preformances has NEVER been a disappointment. JB and Jackie Wilson are original artists who paved the way for other musical artist after them, and we know who they are. They were very humble how they received and reacted to their fans. Great legends!

James Brown was obviously watching what Cab Calloway did back in the 30s. Of the three, I think James Brown was the best. Cab was a great bandleader, and Michael Jackson was the best songwriter of the three. BUt they are all amazing to see onstage. In the end, the biggest difference is, Cab CAlloway and James Brown were men of real integrity.
IndiaScarlet1,Your point is well taken when Jackson died suddenly because of the out pouring of sympathy from fans it would have been bad business to lead with the child molester stories that was so lucrative prior to his death. Money is the motivating factor now the same media entity that called him a pedophile is selling collectable magazines that show him as the great artist he was.
IndiaScarlet1, Michael Jackson fell victim to one of the most ruthless business in the world THE MEDIA!! Talking head after talking head made millions trying to destroy him. This is the price of fame in a sick voyeuristic society that waits like a pack of hungry wolves for the next sensational story.
IndiaScarlet1,Your statement is 100% correct. The media is no longer in the business of providing fair and balanced information.Tabloid reporting is a billion dollar a year business . It preys on the ignorance of it's demographics and plants the seed that shapes the opinions of it's readers or viewers.
@trufiend138, Michael Jackson was a pop singer a performer not a civil rights leader. He was under no obligation to represent black issues or black people his job was to sell records in spite of who purchased them.
@trufiend138 I have seen James Brown on television with the same universal message he has performed on all white dance shows , television shows and movies. He has been in predominantly white movies like the Blues Brothers , Rocky and a1960's beach Party movies. Brown's song living in America was not a radical song so there is some hypocrisy in what you are saying.
@trufiend138 , It is twisted logic to suggest that a universal plea of people getting along is somehow bullshit. Michael Jackson was less ashamed of his heritage than some gang banger who is willing to shoot and kill another black man in the street or misfires and kills some innocent child. Who is truly the uncle Tom? We no longer have to fear the Klan but those who terrorize our community now are our own misguided youths.
renanyt ,I do not know where in my comments that I referred to Michael Jackson as an angel. I suggest that you read with some degree of comprehension. I did use the word (FLAWED) which you can interpret anyway you like. I agree that Michael's decisions released the media beast fair or unfair yet anyone who understands how the media works realizes that reporting on what one perceives as negative behavior carries great monetary value for the industry.
fuck wacko jacko...ur talking about a freak VS an originator, legend, humanitarian, role model for the black community...what did wacko ever give back?
@trufiend138 , James Brown was truly original and in some respects had his humanitarian side.Yet he was drug addicted and was no more or less a role model to the black community than Michael Jackson. They both inspired young black performers and both men like every human being including yourself had flaws.
@MrXfree57 "(Brown) was no more or less a role model to the black community than Michael Jackson" are you shitty me? that is one of the most ignorant words ive read on you tube...on YOU TUBE!!! congrads
@trufiend138 , If you think my statement was one of the most ignorant statements on youtube then I suggest you read more. James Brown was very involved in the civil rights movement including songs like I am black and I am proud. He was well known for speaking out against injustice regarding the treatment of African Americans. Yet as we know he became addicted to drugs and was imprisoned for taking police on a high speed chase.
“Guinness Book of Records” names Michael as the “Pop Star who supported the most charity organizations. These were some of the things that made him a good role model. This is not to suggest that everything he did was to be admired. There were aspects in Brown and Jacksons' life that were flawed yet both of these men accomplished things that brought pride to the black community. You are the one who is ignorant if you can't understand that.
@MrXfree57 who cares about guiness...jackson was ashamed of his heritage , brown wasnt and worked to make sure black kids never gave up or laid down. jackson's plea was universal "cant we all just get along" bullshit, not realsitic anywhere in the world, not here in USA, not anywhere..as long as people have different colored skin one side will hate the other and seek to keep them disenfranchised...thats the reality
@trufiend138 ,It is not that simplistic I have no idea what Michael Jackson was ashamed of. What I do know is that he spent a great deal of time and money helping children In Africa and you can't get any blacker than that. In regards to racism yes it is still a factor yet there are black men killing each other on the streets of America every day. If you want real talk then you cannot leave that out of the equation.

@buggs428 You are 100% CORRECT. He was not only a major influence on MJ, but his music from the 1960's and on was a virtual blueprint for hip-hop. Funky Drummer is probably the most sampled drum track of all time.
@buggs428, NOPE.....Dick Van Dyke used the "exact moonwalk" way back then.....he was standing next to one of those big outside mailboxes that are still around (getting rare) that was on a corner....and the wind starting blowing really hard (is the way dick van dyke MADE it look) when he did the "moonwalk" as he was trying to walk FORWARD.....as this make believe WIND kept pushing him back. I can't remember the name of the show right now...but I saw it on youtube a few years ago and I noticed :-)

@buggs428 .... i hate people like you. you make claims without even knowing what the hell your talkin about! the first 'moonwalk' was done by michael jackson... however the first 'backslide' - (YES, THATS THE ACTUAL NAME OF THE MOVE BEFORE IT WAS COMMERCIALISED BY MJ) has roots from tap dance 70+ years ago... -.- learn your shit before you go spreading it.
jame brown micheal jackson prince jackie wilson are the reason i became an artist and entertainer thanks and much luv to them for there teachings about wats real and thats soul if u have no soul you have nothing and your meaningless.
He´´s an amazing dancer.. You can absolutely see a lot of JB in MJ`s moves, but in my opinion, MJ perfected his craft and to my point of view, MJ`s dance moves seem more polished... but no one can deny the greatness of JB tho..
James BROWN is the MASTER DANCER, he made dance, Godfather of soul, funk ,disco , hip hop etc. he created MJ. Jackson was influenced by JB & Jackie Wilson.
What can I say about this man? Dancing has been around for ages but James Brown has created some of the greatest dance moves in 50's and the best part we still watch the legacy left by the great dancer. Stop bragging about shufflin!!
James Brown is inspiration for MJ,Mj is a big fans of James brown...so he inspirated to make a move like james brown..BUT THERE"S A DIFFERENCE,James Brown too didn't angry dat MJ take his moves, because he know that MJ just inspirated not plagiarized it....
What's crazy about James Brown is that he was dancing like this long before popping, breaking, locking and other hip-hop dance styles came on the scene. I'm not into the whole "who's better" arguments, but the "Michael is better" people need to realize he had a lot more variety of dance styles to pull from by the time he came on the scene; including James Brown. For James Brown to be that raw with a much smaller variety of dances to work with deserves some serious props.
@pragmatic0318 Seriously. I am a huge Michael Jackson fan, but you can't be a fan of MJ without recognizing that he was influenced heavily by JB. He says so himself and there was a small period of time, before his style truly was unique and his, when he was copying James Brown step for step. I too don't get how people can praise Jackson and then turn around and diss his idol. Without James Brown there is no Michael Jackson.
Before genetic Prozac Soul, before it was sucked out of our asses Bubba Ho-Tep style, this was REAL certified organic Soul food. Goes right into the bloodstream. No sample, no tweaking, key changing, fiddling. That's right, fiddling. A wank. So why wank when you can get up onto that thing?! Tell me, brothers and sisters, can you think of an Artist today who could follow this man? Nor can I. Not even a support act could hold his weight. The real opiate to the ears is through James Brown.
Man, this dude is without competition. Even though he is no longer with us, you try to name an act that has (or had) his raw, soul-filled energy? Elvis in 1970, yep. Little Richard, yes. Sam and Dave, sure. MJ, of course. But James Brown, he was a product of pure Soul, a God-given talent: we can take as many "lessons" as we want, but as Little Richard said: "I'd follow anybody, but if it's James Brown, I might bargain a little." Damn right. Even MJ hails him the King!!!
@itsjosetapia Stop talking bollocks. This track is fucking mint. James Brown, The Godfather of Soul. He was one serious, hardcore, slip-slidin', big-haired, screamin' bastard. There's nothing out there these days that touches this. Nothing at all.
James Brown didn't need nobody to tell him he was super bad....he knew already and wasn't conceded with it, just one bad azz mutha at 2:23, shout cho'mouth, well I'm talkin'bout James
@jacksge - ROTFLMAO!! I have to respond when someone catches me off guard and I just bust out laughing....you got me! OhhhhhSh*t ! Yeah the man was bad.
@Ravization Everybody copy each other, nothing wrong with that.. I don't like these who's better than who,debates..let's love them both and the time God gave them to us...I have a picture of the both of them together on my wall. Ravization,I'm not saying you are doing that."debating

@wizzdum10 lol dont worry i made a james brown video doing the same thing, he's just moving his foot left and right so fast that it looks like he magically moved there, if ya watch my james brown video i do the same thing
lol michael jackson loved james brown, so he could all his steps, and used specialle one of james browms steps, but michael had his own style.. so micheal didnt steal a thing..
Great video. Thanks for putting it up. And this isn't even his best effort. Saw JB live many times in 60's. Guys would practice for weeks before he came to town. BITD, you could dance at concerts at the Municipal Auditorium in NOLA. Those were some incredible shows. The Flames, throwing out the cape, the JB contest! James wasn't choreographed, he was a dancer. He left us all a legacy that we will can all now enjoy on YouTube. Just wish there were more footage of him in his prime.
I am disgusted by the comment on this video. I believe that both michael and james brown would not agree with these comment if they were alive to see it. They had respect for one another, mj love and repected james brown he was always happy to pay him his dues. mj had his own unique move that he is known for. both are great dancers in their own right. Mj fans, if you respect mj you would stop dissing james brown. james brown fans, appreciate mj for introducing james style to a young generation
It is wrong to say that MJ created most of his moves because they were derived from james brown, Jackie Wilson, Ronald Isley, Sammy Davis jr. among others. He simply put his own signature style and flair to them . Dont get me wrong, he did create alot of his own dances, but not all of them. And neither Mj or Jb is better than the other; in my opinion they are both equal.
@TheAgentnexus iam so sorry but even i ONE OF OF THE BIGGEST MJ FANS must disagree with you cuz this man James brown WAS ICE SKATING MJ could try as he might but those moves are JB's i mean NJ only prefected his moves
its crazy because his sister " JAMES BROWN SISTER " stays down the street from me . No lie ; i walk pass her house everyday and she sits on her porch either singing or drinking coffee . i think it's pretty cool <3333 . ( & | i lOve him btw .
James brown seems to dance primarily with his feet, while MJ uses his hips and torso more

He´´s an amazing dancer.. You can absolutely see a lot of JB in MJ`s moves, but in my opinion, MJ perfected his craft and to my point of view, MJ`s dance moves seem more polished... but no one can deny the greatness of JB tho..

What can I say about this man? Dancing has been around for ages but James Brown has created some of the greatest dance moves in 50's and the best part we still watch the legacy left by the great dancer. Stop bragging about shufflin!!
jayzzification 8 months ago

For James Brown to be that raw with a much smaller variety of dances to work with deserves some serious props.
pragmatic0318 9 months ago
@pragmatic0318 Seriously. I am a huge Michael Jackson fan, but you can't be a fan of MJ without recognizing that he was influenced heavily by JB. He says so himself and there was a small period of time, before his style truly was unique and his, when he was copying James Brown step for step. I too don't get how people can praise Jackson and then turn around and diss his idol. Without James Brown there is no Michael Jackson.

I'm pretty certain the song is "Think." But I honestly have never heard this version before. Its way funkier than the one I'm familiar with.

thnx in advance!!
mushik888 9 months ago

THIS WAS AMAZING DANCING BUT THEY SHOULDVE ADDED A DIFFERENT BACKGROUND SONG LIKE GET ON THE GOOD FOOT OR SOMETHING THIS SONG ISNT GOOD
itsjosetapia 9 months ago
@itsjosetapia Stop talking bollocks. This track is fucking mint. James Brown, The Godfather of Soul. He was one serious, hardcore, slip-slidin', big-haired, screamin' bastard. There's nothing out there these days that touches this. Nothing at all.

TheSocratease 1 year ago
