in normal situation, the computer will make your "envelope" and do most of the braking for you, but the acceleration and approaching of the station is completely human-operated
Fantastic insight into the duties of a Japanese shinkansen driver. So professional!! And the are right to so proudly wear their uniform - the Japanese train system without doubt leads the world. And it shows the Australian system to be the pathetic embarrassment that it is.
Aye it is really quite astounding, but the shinkansen is slightly slower than the TGV!!! It is however much closer to the ground, so it appears to be travelling faster.
I really love the 500 series. This video and the rest of them of this operation are, just, awesome. By the way, have you heard the engine's sound? It seems to me or this train have some kind of "shifts"?
Thank you for amazing video. I have not ever seen that. Very interested.
As i undesrtanding , JRailways similary with our airlines. Loudly performing checklist, saluting and other attributics. Highly discipline of JR personals.
ATC(or Automated Train Control) is a system that makes sure that the train does not violated speed restrictions and also it provides information to the train driver about speed limits, as you will not see signs saying 100Km or 250Km as they will flash by in an instant.Lastly, ATC is like a autobraking system if the driver goes over the limit(unless trying to make up time for late departure)
14 seconds late???? It's disgraceful!!

@ejdf870 Yes, but, it's not ;) TGV = 320 km/h with passangers.
poopsonlavega 6 months ago
@poopsonlavega This Shinkansen series 500 was made to run @ 320 but noise restrictions makes it unable to do it.
This shinkansen is still quicker than TGV as it has an acceleration of 1.92km/h x sec and it reaches 300km/h under 3 minutes

@ejdf870 the japanese are very advanced in many areas.

Danielovich1982 2 years ago 2
It is not an engine sound.
it is VVVF[Variable Voltage Variable Frequency] sound.
LOLAB361 2 years ago 5
I'll never go to sleep without knowing something new. Thanks!
Danielovich1982 2 years ago 4
VVVF is the AC-powered motor control system.
And it's also known as ADAF for foreign countries.
In fact, this isn't the real motor sound.
VVVF generates a certain sound wave, and the wave cause resonance with car's body.
Finally, the resonanted sound gets into your ears.
Some people love these VVVF sounds.
They're colled "Oto-tetsu" (Train sound's lover) in Japan.

why does he always salute when he goes through a station?
Ramerez491 4 years ago 3
he is saluting to the officers on the platform.
not sure if they do that on narrow gauge, but salute is what's done since the dawn of shinkansen
PS.Japanese runs their railways as armies or airliners of sort..
volante8657 4 years ago 6
The salute is just saying like a hello, and they do it on all gauges.
EAFSQ9 3 years ago
@Ramerez491
To the staff on the station with the thank and respect.
Even if they can see each other.
Maybe staff on the station also salute. That's the Japanese way.
