My brother said that, when he was in Iraq, a soldier rolled over in his sleep. He landed on his own gun and it set the gun off. He died from the wound.
It was an M-something. Not a 16 anymore, but there were people all over the place and this guy still died, most likely b/c he was hit in the wrong place.
Medics were already in the barracks, and that stuff they use, I think it's called Quik Clot, didn't even help.
I'm sure he was hit in the heart. The one place where time would be most critical.
It's hard to take this story seriously when the guy in the reenactment wearing the light geen shirt is your current acting professor as well as your play director.
its ok to pull the hammer back if you wanna shoot. if you change your mind and you dont wanna shoot right then just hold the hammer and pull the trigger and slowly let the hammer go back to the original position. and then theres no problem
hey would be dead if it was in the lung ive been hunting since i could walk i know what that gun would do and with a hollow point it would have blew the chest out of him at point blank rang
what a great brother, not only the running 4 miles but also the praying and sending good vibrations the entire time, believe it or not "Dr.Emoto's Water Memory Experiments (Masuru Emoto), "The Secret-The Law of Attraction") Is everything in these situations
Saying that guns kill people is like saying that a power drill will cut off your fingers or an industrial machine that makes car parts will grab and kill you.
A gun is a tool, and just like any other tool, if you do not follow all the safety regulations that comes with it and act carelessly or play around with it, expect to be seriously injured or lose your life.
ALWAYS follow the proper rules when it comes to gun safety.
you should always point your gun away from yourself and others and keep you finger off the trigger till you are ready to shoot and always check the hammer and ammo
It's a good thing this didn't happen in VA tragic though it was, Va would have arrested the boy, his friends and brought up every charge they could think of.
adcomamps...There is no saftey on a Dan Wesson 357...if you knew anything about revolvers, this is the most basic thing to understand. Please take a course on firearms before you hurt someone.
There is no safety "pin" on a Dan Wesson 357. Newer revolvers have safety features to prevent the hammer from striking a primer in the forward position, but this is in case the weapon is dropped. In this case, the operator had to pull the trigger and manually ride the hammer forward with his thumb. He admitted in the video that the hammer slipped out of his thumb control. As a result, the cartridge fired as the weapon was designed to do.
that's why you NEVER take the sights off the target. if you have to turn around, keep the gun pointed at the target, and turn around SLIGHTLY. either that, or set the gun down, pointing it at a safe target, safety on, THEN turn around!
Theres nothing wrong with them having firearms, but they should have had an adult with them supervising. They didnt have enough safety skills to be carryin the types of firearms that they were carryin with out supervision.
If they had them for protection there was no reason to shoot them, if they had them for competetive shooting they should have practiced on a shooting range...
Not sure why he was using hollowpoints for simple shooting practice, they should have had a target setup instead of just shooting a log. Anyways, this accident could have been prevented, it was negligence that caused it. The guy shoulda had both hearing and safety protection to begin with, remember the gun is ALWAYS LOADED. Using his finger to hold the hammer implys that he must have had his finger on the trigger. The gun is not the problem, but the uneducated person who was using it.
well said...not following individual safety precautions caused this accident, not the weapon. too bad some people are too silly and ignorant to understand that.
This is the actor who played the guy who was shot. This was my first job (first audition even). Interesting fact: I was too tall for the first helicopter so they had to remove the doors so my head and feet could hang out!
Fail. hollow is just that. a bullet that has a cavity in the front as to expand when shot into soft cavity's like ballistic gel or flesh. the bullet diameter is the same as 38 special or nine millimeter. wieght is different though. 9=115 38=155 357=158
The guy who shot him (accidentally, of course) shouldn't have run off like that, because Police probably would ahve thought it was on purpose and he could have been charged with additional things. Did the guy who shot him have to go to jail?
no, he did not have to go to jail, everyone knew it was accidental, becuase there were witnesses, and no, he didn't run off, he walked off because he was terrified of what he had done.
Ben's brother Robert was exceptional. It was extremely lucky that he knew just what to do. He ran three and a half miles just to reach a pay phone. I get choked up every time I watch it.
Re: guns and kids. Yes, ALWAYS keep your gun unloaded until you are gonna use it. I once shot my Dad's rifle at myself because I was curious what it would feel like to be dead (seriously). It was unloaded... if it hadn't been... well ya know
Do mobile (cell) phones not work in areas like that? Probably not and mighta slowed that guy down anyway if he was checking his phone all the time instead of racing for the payphone.
Anyway - guy got shot at POINT BLANK range witha gun that's supposed to KILL, it went through his back, stomach (twice) and other part of his body, he was waiting for an HOUR before the medics even arrived... and he is alive. If that aint a miracle, what is?
these guys didn't know the fine points of firearm safety... they were so worried about dressing up in camo gear that they violated safety rules. 1) at 1:34 you hear that his friend offered him ear plugs... AFTER he had begun firing and 2) the shooter ACCEPTED the ear plugs having not even emptied his cylinder
Kit, just to let you know, you (or your story) can only go/be on Rescue 911 if you actually have a horrible/tragic story and you live through it, etc.
Do you happen to have, allgood2000, the episode where a dog chokes on a ball, it happened in Presque Isle, Maine, I really want to see that one, if possible can you upload it?

If everyone followed the rules on weapons, the world would be a lot safer, now wouldn't it?
I somewhat agree. But, weapons aren't just guns, knives, clubs, etc. A weapon can be a stapler or a twig. Its all how you utalize it. But, yes gun locks and not being drunk when cleaning guns is always a good idea.

Which would explain why some of them were wearing camoflage jeans. Also, they could have been going hunting. I could be wrong, you know but that's my hunch.
Or lock up your gun. A lot of kids die because guns were left in their reach or from an unlocked safe or cabinet. My parents kept their guns well hidden from my brothers & I.
Actually, the first rule is to not point the rifle at anything you dont want to die. 1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. 2. ALWAYS keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. 3. ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
My brother said that, when he was in Iraq, a soldier rolled over in his sleep. He landed on his own gun and it set the gun off. He died from the wound.

1. Always Treat the gun that it's loaded no matter what!
2. Always Keep the Muzzle pointed in a SAFE DIRECTION !
3. Always Be sure of your backstop and what is behind it.
4. KEEP YOUR FINGER OF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR READY TO SHOOT !

Young adults don't need parental permission to own firearms.

Perhaps if Nick had set the gun down on the ground first before getting the earplugs, Brendan wouldn't have been shot.

They must be training for the army.

Which would explain why some of them were wearing camoflage jeans. Also, they could have been going hunting. I could be wrong, you know but that's my hunch.

Teens and guns, a bad mix.

I remember one of these a boy's friend finds his father's rifle, loads it and it accidently goes off and the bullet hits the boy's sister.
Rule number 1 with guns: ALWAYS PUT THE SAFTY ON, though this seems more likely an accident

Old rule - The only gun safety resides between the ears of the user. Mechanical devices can always fail.
