  • thats a funny fail the master got PAWND 13 times

  • people say that the daleks wernt in this movie but if u think bout it they kind of were

  • DAT BBC1 LOGO

  • A Timelord has 13 lives ... These days, I wonder what's going to happen to The Doctor when he's on his 13th Incarnation ... will the BBC change the rules? ... Hmm, I wonder ...

  • @TheHutchhickersGuide I meant the Writer's and Producers, NOT the BBC.

  • its high time Paul came back and had his own series

  • Paul McGann was a great Doctor!

  • Thay better not cheet us we all now what he said

  • The movie was quite americanized

  • Love Sylvester's hair

  • i think this theme was the best part of this movie, no offense to Paul McGann who i think is an amazing actor and why oh why is the Master tried on skaro?

  • @Moon22Rabbit Something to do with the time war?

  • not a bad little attempt from the Americans. I'll give them points for trying.

  • Why would daleks have be part of a justice system?!

  • @TheWinterbringer dalek justice system= if youre not dalek you must be, hmm im not sure what they might say here... not like they drone it into everyones heads before they do it... :D

  • Y'know what the tune goes along to?

    CONTRIIVVED SEQUUUUENCE.

  • who decided the Dalek's should be voiced by Alfie and the Chipmunks?

  • chipmunk daleks?

  • I actually liked this movie. Believe it or not I watched it here on youtube and this was actually what made me want to start watching Doctor Who in the first place.

  • this film is proof that hollywood should never intefere with doctor who

  • Crap. 13 lives. That means probably 2014 is the last Dr Who

  • @VGCworld Nah, I'm sure BBC will come up with some reason to continue it. You gotta think, back int he time when they said '13', they NEVER thought it'd STILL be going strong in 2011.

  • @VGCworld The Master made is past 13 lives, I think the Doctor can!

  • @Suriel1981 Do bare in mind, the Master stole a persons body and also got resurrected by the Time Lords, so the Master was bound to get a lot of lives, but I don't think you'll find the Doctor trying to steal somebody's body. but maybe River gave him hers.

  • @Suriel1981 im pretty sure in sarah jane adventures they disregarded the 13 regenerations (not exactly sure though)

  • @jamesxkxklass3 The eleventh Doctor claimed to be able to regenerate 507 times in an episode of SJA. I think RTD siad it wasn't meant to be taken seriously though.

  • The 8th doctor is my favourate im hoping he gets a cameo in 2013 :3

  • I admit I hated the movie, but I'm rather fond of this version of the theme song.

  • @ToothpasteCannon I think that pretty much sums up everyone's opinion on the TV movie: shite movie, great doctor, great score.

  • Since McCoy was the Incumbent Doctor he should have had his name second in the intro.

  • @archer1949 Yeah, it's a fun movie to watch. Don't let all the nay-Sayers of this film discourage you. The 13 lives is considered canon. There is a part of the movie, however, that is NOT considered canon. I won't spoil it for you, but see if you can find it in the movie.

  • I'm just getting into Doctor who. I started with Christopher Eccleston (#9, I believe) have seen 10 and 11 (so far) and am now working my way backwards.

    Is this movie worth seeing?

And is that "13 lives" stuff actually canon?

  • Loved it when i was a kid and love it still. It'll never compare to the modern series but.....did i mention i love it?

  • @Melkur1981 Good for you! This movie deserves more love than it gets.

  • How can you guest star in a movie?

Also, I've always thought of John Simm as 'Eric Roberts done right'.

  • How can you guest star in a movie?

  • The doctor who made for tv movie wasn't that good but I do love the way the melody for the theme sounds on french horn

  • What in the name of God did they do to the theme tune for this piece of crap? It sounds like someone farting Grainer's original classic through a tea strainer.

  • I watched this yesterday for the first time since 1996 and it still absolutely sucks. It felt like a bad American TV movie from the late 80's early 90's and the Master was terrible in this. I mean Eric Roberts!! WHY?!! lol. What were they thinking!

  • @andydwarfer

Apparently word is that Christopher Lloyd was supposed to play The Master.

  • The melody that kicks in at 0.56 does anyone have a longer version?

  • 0:41 Looks like Davros Accidentelly infected the Daleks with helium gas instead of the movellan virus XD

  • I'd love to see that opening title in 3D. I bet it would be ace...

  • NERD RAGE

    That is all.

  • Even Sylvester McCoy says they shouldn't have done the regeneration

  • Coool music but WAIT....how did daleks suck a balloon? they haven't got a mouth!!!!!!!! that's not canon!!!

  • How did rocks get into the time vortex

  • Sorry watching this again I can see the intro doesn't even make sense let alone the whole film. The Daleks I would think would not dare to even let the Doctor approach their planet without killing him. As well they practically ruined the eternal essence that the doctor had with the 13 lives thing.

  • @GCRK5 The 13 lives line was first said in the 70's

  • @GCRK5 The 13 lives thing was first mentioned in "The Deadly Assassin". That was 1976, I think.

  • @GCRK5 13 Lives had been well established long before the film. Also, the Dalek's allowing The Doctor to land on Skaro was a ploy to gain the Time Lord's trust and throw them off balance so the Daleks could launch their attacks and begin the time war.

  • @GCRK5

Remeber this is well before the "Time War"!!

  • 1:40-145

Not quite as good as Nick Briggs...

  • I remember watching this when I was 4 years old (Already a Who fan by then) and cheering when McCoy's name came up.

  • the Daleks sound like they breathed in helium

  • The lazy references to the Daleks who sounded like the Smurfs and bringing a sub plot in for no good reason like that.

  • Doing the regeneration was a mistake and just confused an audience who didn't know anything about Dr Who. having the starring man appear half way through the film like that Sylvester Mccoy was wasted and it should have starred Mcgann from the start already regenerated, maybe including a back story later would have worked.

  • It is too bad 8 didn't get his own TV Series D:

  • i love the small bit of music at 1:40

  • The next multiple doctor episode should be 8,9,10,& 11

  • @wvdb2217 I wish.... sadly 9 isn't too keen on coming back. There probably will be a multi - Doctor story in 2013 though, in the series' 50th anniversary year.

  • I hope soon, the next Multi-Doctor episode is a Matt Smith/Paul McGann Episode that also shows Paul McGann to Christopher Eccelston regeneration.

  • @Crosis2814 where'd you hear that?

  • @StuartTheGamerNerd Nowhere, I was just stating that I hope that the next Multi-Doctor episode is that.

  • @Crosis2814 we all wish the same...

  • @Crosis2814 Have to include Tennant.

  • Amazing!!!

  • I think Paul Mcgann was very underrated as the Doctor i think him and not Tennant should have had the role im not saying David was bad but I dont there was just somthing about him I didnt like that I couldnt put my finger on I do however think he was overrated but thats just my opinion and this movie i reckon was brilliant for a BBC tv movie brings me back too when I was 5 when this first came out

  • listen hear mate, i woundnt call candles keeping him safe.

  • Yeah, How did the Master piss off the Daleks so much that they would want to execute him? Why did he have a trial too?

Wait, was it the Imperial Daleks ot the Renegade Daleks?

    Confused :-S

  • @GamerWho I guess they were annoyed at the Master failing them in the Jon Pertwee story 'Frontier in Space'. It was probably the Imperial Daleks that executed the Master.

  • lol evryones missed 1 massive screw up with this film right from the start,, its bacicaly saying that the daleks let the doctor take the remains of the master back to galifriey yea right thay have been after the doctor for god knows how many years and thay let him leave skaro to go home iam sorry but no chance thay would kill both of them and galifrey was distroied in the time war witch was well b4 mcgan became the doctor how meny screw ups in the first few seconds lol

  • @batdude657 Actually the last great time war happened between 8 and 9 watch the new series premier and notice how Eccelston looks at himself in the mirror and talks as if he not too long ago regenerated

  • @batdude657 In the Doctor Who Annual 2006 and the novel 'Lungbarrow', it's explained that Romana, who was President of the Time Lords at the time, opened a peace treaty, between the Daleks and the Time Lords. As an act of good faith, she handed the Master over to the Daleks to face trial for the crimes he committed against them. At the end of 'Lungbarrow', the Doctor was sent to Skaro to fetch the Master's remains. So the Doctor was an acting Time Lord ambassador of sorts.

  • @batdude657 Plus, the Time War is AFTER this movie, before Chris Ecclestone's time. What bugs me personally, is how Skaro's still there when Sylvester McCoy destroyed it with the Hand of Omega. I guess the Master's trial is in Skaro's past. There is another explanation in the novels that the planet McCoy blew up was not Skaro, but a Dalek decoy planet.

  • pity the day the daleks discovered helium!

  • the fact that disapointted me wasnt that it was americanized its the fact that it never lasted that long it lasted up to less than two regular episodes

  • These titles are good, but wheres the tardis?

  • @StockyStudios The TARDIS doesn't always feature in the titles. In fact, in the Classic Series, it only appeared twice, during the early to mid Tom Baker years and the Sylvester McCoy era.

  • y'know it says " Starring Paul McGann", but he only shows up around halfway through.

  • EPIC MYOOOOOOOOOOOOSIC!

  • @Seantheminiman no christopher eccleston was

  • This one episode was better than the whole of tennants shit.

  • I am so glad that this atempt to bring back the doctor failed because the Dalek voice would be more unbarable than ever!!?!

  • wtf is up wiv the daleks, they look like oompa loompas trapped in a cage

  • @conoritania that was the master in a cage, and the daleks exterminated him.

  • @Badwolf6669

oh good, but the daleks still sound like reetards

  • @conoritania Thats not a Dalek, its The Master restrained for execution

  • @FleetlordAvatar120

yer i know he told me

  • @Seantheminiman IMHO David Tennant was great. would have loved another season with him.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh it's that American Moive!

  • Really the only time you see the 7th Doctor use the famed Sonic Screwdriver.

  • WTF is with the daleks on helium

  • Paul McGann spoiled the entire dr who francise

  • @matthewrobinsonsz SILENCE! McGann was efing awsome!!!

  • @matthewrobinsonsz

McGann himself was actually a pretty good Doctor actually.

The movie itself left little to be desired though.

  • lol lot of actors starring

  • Does the Eighth Doctor count as 'NewWho', 'OldWho', or is he bridging the gap? I always thought of it as NewWho but thats probably cos there was a gap after 'Survival' and it was trying to start the series again which is what happened in 2005. Then again, McCoy is in it.

  • @AlexanderT21 he's a old who

  • Say what you will about the movie...

This opening KICKS ASS!!! Seriously better then the tecnho bop stuff of NuWho.. this Opening felt "EPIC"

  • @Crossroadsinc

Actually the Techno-part isn't 'NuWho', as you put it, but back to the roots; The original 1963 version is among the very first massively popuar completely electronic songs ever.

  • second awesomest DW theme song!

  • @CoffeeDeer yeh its orchastra style

  • >>>it looks like american, has mainly american actors in it

    .

You mean it has mainly VANCOUVER actors in it. That's in Canada. And you know it's not as if the Doctor never visited America - he did have an American companion for 4 years after all.

  • @harleykman Its set in San Francisco, what did you expect? lol If it had been set in Africa do you think there would have been a primarily Chinese cast?

Although I guess, everyone in Fires of Pompeii sounded British... in fact everyone in the future of the human race so far has appeared to be either British, American or in the case of Turn Left, Chinese.

  • @AlexanderT21 But it was filmed in Canada. It was written by British authors, starred British actors (the two doctors), directed by British citizens, funded by British pounds, and so on

    .

It's about as "American" as the BBC Rome series or the Planet Earth series... i.e not at all.

  • @harleykman OK, fair enough, I just meant the setting was in America, so at least some of the cast would be American. Good point though.

  • @AlexanderT21 As far as I know only two actors were American. The rest were either British or Canadian

    .

Calling this an American movie is the complete opposite of fact

    .

    .

  • @harleykman It was still god awful. :/

  • @harleykman "It's about as "American" as the BBC Rome series or the Planet Earth series... i.e not at all."

Oh, my ... jealousy and resentment are ugly traits, aren't they?

  • @harleykman Ah yes, but American Producers made a lot of changes, like 1/2 human thing they were told to do by US Producers so he wouldn't be too alien!

  • @giles852002 "It was a request they should never have granted..."

  • BTW somebody said this was "never followed up on". The BBC produced a whole series of radio programs starring Paul McGann as the Doctor.

  • i know this movie is really really american and does not feel like doctor who at all, i must admit, it's a pretty good film...apart from the chipmunk daleks

  • @WilliamGrantham I vote someone posts this scene on youtube and edits in different voices for the daleks. Make a new internet fad. Ill start with TEXAN DALEKS!

EX-TER-MIN-ATE! HEE HAW! *numerous laser blasts into both the corpse and the air*

  • Obviously they were expecting to make more episodes after this if they had a 'Special Guest Star' and a 'Guest Star'?

  • the daleks sound like shit in this movie

  • Skaro: best known of its Helium filled courtrooms.

  • @GeneHunt01 lol

  • @GeneHunt01 Your comment cracked me up!

  • You can say what you will about this movie, but boy, John Debney's score is amazing! And this orchestral arrangement is perhaps the best one, though Murray Gold's 2010 version comes close second.

  • @cmrmagazinechannel Because It's set in America. But primarily as Doctor Who was meant to change over to American hands, provided this movie was successful. But as it was unpopular in the states, the move never happened.

  • @akiugn I am an American Dr Who fan and was Very Very Pissed at Fox network for not picking up the show and making it into a series.

  • Awsome Movie they should bring Paul McGann back...

  • @ChineseHypocracy i agree there good movie should do another one

  • Does he count as a proper doctor

  • the time lord has 13 lives and 12 regenerations and the doctor is on his 11th

  • its a shame we dont actually see the Daleks and that the voices are just abit like they are on helium :P

  • I you look carefully hes holding the sonic screwdriver backwards

  • The 7th Doctor got SHOT! I can't believe it!

  • I love this theme music as well. Together with the Sylvester Mccoy theme and the new theme, it is among my favourite Who themes.

Pity McGann made only one appearance. I would have loved to have seen more of his adventures.

  • nothing better than this modern dr who online at justdoctorwho^dot^com

  • I taught the movie was good. Except, those squeaky Daleks.

  • this opening was great apart from the horrible squeaky daleks.

  • if you listen at around 0:57, u can hear the 4 beat drum sound, the new master talks about in the david tennant dr who

  • Yeah, that's probably what it's based on?

  • @07lnel This was established later by Russell T Davies as being a coincidence, as while the rapid 4 drum beat was something that had appeared in the theme song several times in the past, Davies commented that his inspiration for the drum beat that plagued the Master was from his alarm clock.

  • @Vlorsutes

    Thanks

  • hmm the daleks sound like mettalic chipmunks :S

  • Paul McGann would have made a.. (puts on 9th Doctor Voice) FANTASTIC Doctor! Absolutely Fantastic!

  • badass lol

  • Its because of low US reception that he never became the 8th doctor we should have had...stupid yank TV stations

  • Well, it got a low US reception because the movie was fucking awful. Frankly, it being was about the best thing that could've happened to Doctor Who, because now, rather than being an embarrassment, it was a national treasure that needed to be reclaimed after being soiled by the Americans (even though the writer and producer were British, but hey).

  • Not to mention it would've carried on as an American television series.

  • @bbqplatypus318 I'm confident that Americans could work on Doctor Who without soiling it, it just takes the right people. I blame FOX, not America. FOX is well known for making crap movies.

  • I agree, I'm just going by what the general perception was. People generally try and disown the film by calling it "the AMERICAN movie" as if it was our fault.

  • Well, given the fact that BBC considers Paul McGann the true 8th Doctor, I think the movie shouldn't be disowned at all. Although I think the idea of him being half human is utter rubbish.

  • @bbqplatypus318

The U.S. ratings were poor because FOX, in its typical fashion, scheduled the movie up against a football game. That's the same stupidity that caused Family Guy and Futurama to be canceled. Ditto Firefly.

    - FOX loves to sabotage series especially the scfi/ fantasy ones. (See wikipedia for Friday night death slot.) And yet, despite FOX's best effort to kill the show, it still was watched by 5% of the U.S. which is about how much the weekly Star Trek Voyager got in 1996.

  • @harleykman Don't forget that it was a "backdoor pilot". Any time those words were used by FOX it instantly meant "death sentence". How many of those did FOX make in the 90's? about one or two a year? And how many were given shit time slots, almost no publicity, and then not picked up cause the ratings weren't as high as they wanted.

  • McGann was good in it, though.

  • @BloodRayneCyrus It's really just FOX, which never makes good movies or is able to publicize them well. To me, the openning to this looks good, but I've never seen the movie itself.

  • mcgann would have been an awesome doctor and is a matter of fact; listen to some of the audio stuff and see

  • hmm the time vortex design, the fly in names am i the only one who thinks the renewed titles are based on this title sequence

  • @MBGamingLegends that's what I thought when i saw these titles too

  • I love the sound the T.A.R.D.I.S makes as it flies across the screen. YEAH! :-)

  • Guest starring the Smurfs as the Daleks.

  • lol

  • It's odd though to see the Daleks holding a trial.

  • yeh u espect them to jst kill them

  • I've always assumed that whenever the Daleks hold a "trial" what they really mean is "ritualistic murder"

  • not always they sometimes use people as slaves first

  • @tf2whackyengineer Actually I'm also surprised that they allowed their arch-nemesis, the Doctor, to walk in, pick up the remains and walk out without crying "Exterminate!"

  • IMHO

rather than look for a new doctor, they should have kept this guy for a year before phasing him out. Give him more screen time

  • Now why would the Master be tried on Skaro why not Galifrey??

Just doesnt make sense also to vapourise his ass! bring him back for the time war then watch him run like a girl when the Cruciform fell!

lol oh well Dr Who rocks anyway!

  • They just wanted to get the word Dalek in there...

  • Perhaps they decided moving the Master from Skaro to Gallifrey would be too risky.

Or maybe because it wasn't Gallifrey, but the DALEKS who were trying the Master. It makes sense to hold a Dalek trial on Skaro..

  • Indeed I suppose.

  • Im saving that purely on merit of the theme tune.

  • 0:45 so thats the master being vaporised

  • I grabbed onto 8th doctor for a new fix, and it did HIT.

now in retrospec, the half human bollox was a mistake, & tbh I love Paul Mcgann, and he did the role great merit, but

Why did the BBC sell off the rights to a nation that didnt know wtf docotr who was?

I blame the Torries and their appointment of John Brit as director general.

He gave teh license scope to langish for another 7 years by selling it to USA, and THAT contract excluded bbc from making a new who until 2003

  • if you pause at 0:55, you can just see the same eyes that the camera closed in on at 0:33

  • MCGann Could come back into the newer series on a special like the 80s episode the five doctors you could have him, eccleston, tennant, mccoy and davidson just as a specail to remind older fans of that classic episode and make the newer audience see the amazing acting skills of the older generation doctors

  • I think this was a really good Dr Who film and more could have been done after it. It was an attempt to update the show after it had been cancelled in the 80s. I was never a big fan of the show but remember watching a few episodes in the 80s and thought this was a good follow up. The cast and crew did a 1st rate job.

  • Paul McGann is hideously underrated. I thought he was fantastic in this.
