The Schrödinger's cat theory was devised as evendence that quantum mechanics was bull. So, if you put a cat in a box with a toxic, I think it was, in the box you have two cats (or two possibilities of the cat). One of the cats is alive and one of the cats died from the toxic. But when you open the box there's only one outcome (so either the cat is dead, or the cat still lives)

I'm not sure if I got it entirely right, but that's the main gist.
