  • Fun fact: Kristy McNichol was nominated in 1983 for a Razzie Award, for "The Pirate Movie" but happy to report she actually won one in 1989 for Two Moon Junction

  • Dude I loved this movie when I was little lol. It was a funnier version of the Pirates of Penzance xD

  • I didn't know Bialystock and Bloom produced movies.

I have a feeling even Joel and the 'bots couldn't make this watchable.

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!! I have most of the songs on my IPOD and still think Chris is hot hot hot in this :)

  • Remembering seeing this film as a youth and thinking it was pretty lame. It had a lame script, lame jokes, lame songs, I remember thinking, I'm sure the original operetta it was based on had to be a lot better than this mess! That said, in retrospect it does have some kitsch appeal.

  • {0:48}"Original"?!?

Some Australian studio slapped this crud together, hoping to steal some thunder from the upcoming "Pirates Of Penzance" movie,a theatrical version of the then-popular Broadway show starring Rex Smith and Linda Ronstadt---which wasn't a hit,either---but at least it wasn't THIS overblown bastardization of Gilbert and Sullivan!

  • @snarkus63 I didn't even know hat existed! I'd only ever seen it as a live Operetta. I'm going to try and rent them both!

  • wow before pirates of the caribbean there were no good pirate movies :O at least i think so... but it's just my opinion

  • Man - when I was a kid, I used to watch this on cable repeatedly, was obsessed with it. I'm almost afraid to see how corny it is today. lol

  • per banda sonora 1982 Kit Hain

  • our school performed pirates of penzance, goddamn school should have done this

  • man I remember this movie from when I was a kid, but must of blocked out all the singing, only thing I really remember was the leap year birthdate so he was only 5

  • I'd have a really hard time sitting through this, or touching the box for that matter.

  • Me extraña que no fuera un exito en su epoca, era muy divertida, mejor que muchas de las llamadas exitosas, se me hace que no supieron promocionarla, en verdad es muy divertida, si pueden verla haganlo.

  • This movie does Gilbert and Sullivan injustice. Also there is another movie with that song (0:11 - 0:16). It's called The Pirates of Penzance and it's a much better adaptation of the G&S operetta.

  • The version with Kevin Kline as the Pirate King is much better than this.

  • To a 5 year old, this is an epic movie.

  • This blows away most other pirate films save for Blackbeard's Ghost and Nate and Hayes. Plus, the songs are great!

  • I've loved this movie for as long as I can remember.Though it's only now as an adult that I get some of the gags

  • This is the worst trailer for a film I ever seen...lol

  • Lol I made my Dad take me to see this movie when it came out, I must have watched it a 100 times LMAO... so cheezy but I still <3 this movie

  • The best film ever made. Maybe.

  • What a horrible, miserable movie....

  • hiliarously cheesy

  • Its a pretty good movie...Btw you can watch it as a freebie on

    [ Movies Ace . C0m ]

  • this is seriously only of my fave movies. I don't care how cheesy it is, it's awesome

  • Same here. This is one of those movies I grew up with. I don't care if most people say it's crap. This is one of my childhood favs!

  • It's still a fave of mine. I must admit to watching it quite often.

  • Yeah I can understand. I asked for it for Christmas once. Luckily I still have the dvd I asked for Christmas.

  • I introduced this movie to my younger cousins. They LOVED it and I still watch it with them sometimes (I had them watch it just a few years ago since they are pretty young ages 8 to 15)

  • @TimHayes % agree with you!

  • @Anya1976 % agree with you! :)

  • I love this movie!

  • haha worst trailer ever?

  • the pirate with red hair, red beard, white pants who clap the general's hand, is in fact Lord Humungus from Mad max the road warrior!

  • This is a terrible remake from the 1951 original with Gene Kelly and Judy Garland

  • It grows on you. I had to watch this two or three times to get the jokes I had missed.

    (its those double meanings)

Voted 6th worst pirate movie ever made -- but I am in complete disagreement with that. And the fact that it is much more popular nowadays than when it was released seems to bear me out.

  • It's avaliable on DVD...I own it.

  • I grew up on this movie and have it on VHS (does anyone remember VHS)? But it is a guilty pleasure like Road House.

  • - @ BIKERJAKE74 -

Hell no man - Beta. I had my mom rent this movie over and over back in the day...on Beta.

  • fantastic

  • lol I loved this movie as a kid. I was excited when I found it on DVD at Kmart. It joins the shelf with my other "80s"

  • been trying to find this movie for years and I finally did--thank you!

  • I was in kindergarten when I watched this movie, seems so different 26 years later. That takes me back. Now im off to find "Attack of the killer tomatoes", and "Saturday the 14th".

  • Obviously the movie is a piece of shit, but the marketers should have cut a better trailer

  • Pirates+80's music=awesome.

  • christopher atkins and brookshields are more compatible with each other lol!i love the movie blue lagoon

  • This is my favorite movie! Thanks for posting. I admit I own it and know it be heart.

  • I bet this involves puppets

  • No, animated fish. Close.

  • I love this movie since I was a kid. Thanks for posting the trailer. I never seen it.

  • OMG, OMG I cant believe that is Christopher Atkins.

  • I have loved this movie since i first seen it as a kid and still love it 20 some years later. Coming from a straight guy this is surprising I know. LOL!

  • I have a bad feeling this is going to be remade due to people being so pirate-crazy...

  • Thanks for posting!!.

This film has always been a guilty pleasure of mine since the day it was released and I saw it in the theater.

  • best movie ever

  • I love this movie. Kristy McNichol is my favorite actress. She's a beautiful woman with amazing voice. And I don't care who is lesbian !

  • this is the best movie and has been for me for along time. F the people that don't love this fun, silly movie. Life is too damn short to have too serious a life.

  • Never gets old lol

  • i am in love with this movie. i just saw it a week or two ago twice in two days. its my new favorite movie.

  • Damn! I thought I was the only person on earth who loved this movie and soundtrack! Thanks so much!:)

  • "Original" ? This crap has just stolen The Pirates of Penzance, stuck in loads of crap American humour, lyric changes and some crappy 80s pop songs... how is that original?

  • Kristy and Bonney and Read would all get along. They're all lesbians.

  • u old ppl

  • I adore this movie!!! I wish I could find the soundtrack!!
