  • Can you still visit the cockpit? how did you ask? I'm 14 and really want to be an airline pilot, and I've never seen an aircraft cockpit (like big jets anyway). Thanks!!

  • cool vid! who was the cute young dude on the left at the beginning of the vid?

  • what a shit plane

  • @diman007 when was this taken?

  • The person who called v1 and rotate sounds like Sam Kekovich

  • captain is clicking at the control for Trim at 1.40,this moves the whole of the horizontal stabiliser at the back of the plane up and down as there is not enough movement in the elevators themselves to fly a 747.and the yoke gives pitch control through the elevators.....is that better?shouldnt have rushed the first post LOL

  • @raa57 ok mrs professional, qantas pilots are the worlds best trained

  • how did u get in the cockpit?

  • Dead youtube

  • long live the analog gauges

  • LOVE the classic...

  • sounds like a beast when full power is applied! love that sound

  • it is totally terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!! a salute to the pilots

  • hey! i am pilot of qantas 747-400..i love the job...my salary is also good around...80000$ per flight.....

  • @chaubeyman dickhead

  • Comment removed

  • @raa57 Trim deflects and holds the elevator to relieve pressure on the control column.

  • @raa57 wrong, the trim moves the whole horizontal tailplane, and the elevators are more that powerful enough, otherwise it wouldn't be certified to fly.

  • what is the captain doing at 1:40?

his thumb is clicking something at the steering tip...

  • @ericnelson91 That's the trim

  • beautiful arsehole tho aint he?

  • you silly boy

  • LoL

I hate insturments in jets, but I LOVE this video! Great job!

  • Kind of like the old sound of those engines reving up.

  • Bring Back FLight Engineers I miss them a lot...

their works have now been replaced by fly-by-wire... DC10-30, Tristars L1011, and B-742 are the best jumbos !

  • good memories...

  • цццццццццццццццццууввсч

  • lol

  • hahaha (:

  • no digital screen....analog instrument.

    kinda retro.

  • ye, old type 747-200, has been replaced ny 747-200B and 747-400

today, most 200's have been taken out of the air... they'd produce to many noise and trash... they were also very expensive to repair and to keep in flyable state...

  • true that

  • i dont no how they flew without fly by wire controls, it just makes everything so simple

  • BOEING 747 4 ever

  • isnt this a 747 sp.

  • No, it's a 747-200

  • oh right. I often get confused with them aircrafts.

  • This is AN OLD 747 three crews and no huds up display.. LOL this is stoneage...

  • barley and 747 757 767 777 even have a HUD

  • Fantastic buzz saw sound on the old 747's.

  • awesome this is way too old it doesnt even have ils not even lcd displayin all the parameters not even gps haha it was a rude flyin back then

  • it's a lovely 747-238. boeing generally **** all over airbus in the beauty stakes sorry, had to say it... wonderful engine sound indeed just perfect! 747's are a beautiful plane ESPECIALLY 747-338:VH-EBY City of Mildura. She's Stunning!!! :) :);)

    great vid!

  • attention passengers, we are about to take off, please turn off all.......

  • Reminds of a flight i had on a Corsair 747-312 from LAX to PPT. I love the old school!

  • is it always shaky during take off in the

    cockpit?

  • That would be the surface of the runway. Some runways do not get the attention they should.

  • old 747 still needs flight engineer

  • Thats one extra wage the airlines want to faze out hence why they are buying new planes.

  • Love the sound of those engines.

  • wow:) they make flying it seem effortless... soooo many ppl in the cockpit though!! isnt ther meant to be 2 pilots and flight engineer?? or was someone in the jump seat

  • the older planes have 3-4 people in the cockpit (Captin,FO,Flight enginer...etc)

  • it looked like it was going to go into a stall cause it semmedd like it was going sooo slow on the runway

  • Love that place. Just seeing the view out the window makes me miss it... Lived there for 3 years and am always visiting.. Great stuff.. I probably watched, from Sunlover, this jet takeoff... Who knows...

  • awesome video!! the instruments look similar to the 747 yet it sounds like it has 4 propellers i can not hear the distinctive sound of a jet engine. is the audio just messed up?

  • remember, your above and in front of the engines. there is a marked difference to what we hear in the cockpit and what that passengers hear in the cabin.

  • i know the difference i am working on becoming a pilot. it is just this sounds so diesel like or something not that characteristic hissing steady slow changing jet sound. i guess it is the camera. the video still rocks shows the guages before god gave us digital!

  • The RR's on a 747-300 are alot noisier than on the 747-400. The sound you are hearing is correct.

  • y? technology? i have never been on one like that i only kno the 400

  • Well there is a significant difference in noise level between the RR's on a 747-300 and 747-400. The ones on the 747-300 have alot more "buzz saw" than on the 747-400. In general if you were sitting on the front side of the engines you will hear alot of the "buzz saw" than you would if you were sitting behind it.

  • it sounds like chopping to me rather than the newer sound of um i guess the only analogy u got is violins

  • Love the hard turn after take off in Cairns. The runway points at a mountain straight ahead

  • Wow, there where 5 of yous in that cockpit, must of been busy. Great Video.

  • thats awesome

  • Im just amazed that some one is in the cock pit taking this Vid... not since sept 2001 have we been able to visit the cockpit. (Oh I wish my kids could visit it like I did as a child)

  • i actually visited the cockpit in a 737-700 after landing at Gatwick! and i could take pic's and everything! ^^,

  • @melbgal You can still visit the cockpit, when the plane is parked at the gate after you've landed

you can ask the crew, and if there nice they'll let you in.

  • awesome. I know this model its working with steam power. and fourth persons job is throwing coil to the engine.

  • hey guy's!

    i saw a vid of a plane(from the cockpit)

and the wind shield got hit by some object(a tennis ball) it looked like lol! DOES ANY ONE KNOW OF THIS VID? PLEASE GIVE ME THE LINK! THANKS!

  • Was that an older 747? Seems the cockpit instruments looked older. I could be wrong.

  • yes its the B747-300 series.

  • When was the video taken?

  • you know what....your right... they should both take their hands off and sit in the row 17 while theyre at it lol i dont have time to argue good luck with your flying

  • woooooooo go cairns!

live bout 5 minutes away from there

  • Good times, the truth flight not the automatic navigation.

  • No no no, they both have their hands on the throttle so that if a botched take off happens to occur there is no single person to blame as both the captain and first officer were "in control" during take off.

  • i get it now

but y dont they have these on the 744s?

    wait do they?

  • Maths , English and a Physics .

  • great video can u upload the rest of it please

  • what alevels do i take to become a 747 pilot? thakns

  • wow thats an old cockpit!

  • I miss seeing these old birds in Cairns. The biggest we get these days are the regular CX and JQ A330s.

  • talk about an old plane!!

PLEASE CLICK MY USERNAME TO VIEW MY AUSSIE PLANE VIDS

  • I somewhat regret that my airline sold the Boeings...

  • nice to see a flight engineer and big panel of instruments :) love the analogue displays! Cool engine noise too...

  • oh, that's an old 747 :}

  • A 747-200, still prefer the 747-400, actually the whole 747 family is the most beautifull plane in the whole world.

  • Agreed! Alot better than Airbus!

  • thats a matter of opinion

  • Jetstar fly SCairbus A330-200s. Nuff said

  • hey thats slack. i got told off by the flight attendants when i recorded the take off from cairns flying with jet star. in a plane i got no idea what model it was!

  • my friends dad flies a Fedex MD-11 around the world and one time he was coming in to land at kai tak hong kong and it was tornado weather and he was coming in at 750 knots!

  • then your friend's dad did something unique: he flew a subsonic aircraft at supersonic speed...

  • I'd love to see any plane come in at 750 knots, lol

  • Well does FDX own MD-11? tought they only had DC10-10?

  • haha yeah 750 knots!!!! dumbass do know how fast that is?? thats around 2000km per hour

not at all possible! it would rip the aircraft apart

  • no, ur a dumbass

  • o im so sorry mr im a wanna be aviator

  • wat did i say, that is fast, honestly, did i saw something wrong?

  • whoa, thats fast

  • whats fast, does you name even represent what you do in any way? are you an aviator? tell the truth

  • why did u reply to me, o im so sorry mr im a wanna be aviator, just cuz i said whoa thats fast??

  • Actually it's because of your username. Don't be so sarcastic smart ass. The guy obviously thought you may be a wanna be Aviator for a reason, as most of us have such names because we're aspiring Pilots. Have some respect.

  • you dont even know what we were talking about, and im an aspiring pilot aswell, and you have some respect and dont bud in to things that you have no business budding into.

  • Good.

  • w/e, see you in the air somewhere

  • @mutantcat95 750 Knots !!! What was he flying the Concorde? 750 Knots in an MD 11 will make aircraft break and the wings will come off, believe me..And dont believe everything people tell you..Cheers

  • who the hell cares what damn version of 747 it is? cairns is an awesome place, and im gonna move there once i have enough money.

  • it's a 747-200 you can tell by the coupled autopilot instead of the triple CATIII capable autpilot of the 747-300, that with a few other things, trust me...i know ;]

  • oh yes they do, some ppl cant tell the difference so stfu!

  • i know that first pilot,he is my neighbour :D

  • i know its a 747-200 because the gauges 4 the 200 looks just like those 1's and now it is by far diffrent lol

  • Yep its a 747-200. To long to be a SP and its not a 300 because the upper level isnt long enoug. Must be an early to mid 90's vid looking at the look of the ground vehicles

  • when you look at the start of the video u can clearly tell its one of the 747-238B's

  • Dude you don't know at all, it's a 200 with rollers! you have NO idea!

  • it isnt an SP its a 300. i know because qantas dont have sp's or 200's. they went out in 95 or something.

  • This looks more like a 747SP to me...?

  • btw how the fuck could you tell? there is no way of telling from the cockpit and the little clip at the start isnt enough

  • What 747 model is this? When was this filmed?

  • when?

  • It's a 747-200 but it would be very unlikely to be anything much newer because of the new security restrictions surrounding air travel.

  • I have flown that route. All that matters is that the "trolly dolly" brings the beer as soon as the gear is up. ;)

  • its amazing taking off in an aircraft, the G-force makes me light headed.

  • This is definitely a 747, problably 200, cuz it has only 2 autopilots. And we can clearly see the flight engineer's panel... 737s, even the early ones, have only 2 crew members.

  • those engines sound simply amazing

  • And this is the very thing I like 747s for. Its nearly "props-like" engines sound. It can resemble WWII planes' sound even more than many modern turboprops with real props :)

A month ago I walked in the country, 500 km to the west from, and I saw a 4-engined airliner at a "serious" flight level. After it flew just over me, the sound reached to the ground there, and I learned that it sounds props-like not only at takeoff and initial climbing, but also at flight level.

  • they always do a port turn when going south out of Cairns - I think it's mainly to avoid Walsh's Pyramid. (933m)

  • its because of the noise disturbance over the city they turn port

  • its not a 737.. its an older model of 747.. with mostly anaglog instruments.. the older ones had a 3dr crew member for navigation and communication but now they can do it with 2 because of the advances...

its good to see a video of the older 747..

  • it's a 747-200 because the upper deck isn't stretched

  • for the kid who said it was a 737 god your dumb, if you were paying attention to the video right at the start you see three yes 3 crew members. that third one will most likely be the flight engineer or navigator or what ever purpose he is serving for this flight.

  • you faggot

  • this plane looks weird! snedstar, its not a 737. it has 4 engine!

the instrument panel shows the plane was a very old model!! perhapes it really was a old 747 maybe 747-100?

  • or a 747-200

  • that... SOUND... can't... resist :)

  • Its not a 747 its a 737

  • maybe 747-300 seems old,but QF has a best safety record. i fell that when im flying to jeddah from jakarta as a hajj crew with QF VH-EBV.

    go Qantas!!

  • I sat in the jumpseat of a 747 leaving Cairns for Sydney back in 97', back in the good ole' days! Take off and landing were great but twiddled the thumbs in between

  • wow,look at those instruments.must be a very old 747.they lokk like a cessna's.

  • is that 747?

  • as long as you're not on Air France, you're fine :D

  • I love that RR sound!

  • Nah thats the normal run way. I live in cairns so i know. And yeh. Qantas are pretty good. Gotta rate em amoung the best in the world!

  • qantas are fantastic, this aircraft may be old, but QF only has few of these 747-300's in operation

  • Hello, QANTAS has the best safety record in the world... check your facts and wake up ;)

  • Analogue dash! thats a old plane. Quantas to my knowledge have the worlds best safety record to date, i'm not an Aussie flying the flag either

  • You Australians are the safest the nicest and the most professional. Go QANTAS!!

  • Started his takeoff roll from way back before the threshold. This is from before the CNS runway was extended to 10500 ft. I think it was about 8500 ft. Obviously the captain wanted to make sure this big old heavy had plenty of runway.

  • wow, it must have taken a long time to build such a realistic cockpit. so you have others participating during your simulated flights? where did you get the uniforms?

  • awesome video....must be a 200 series....the engines sound awesome

  • Great video - The sound of the RR engines is awesome!

  • Dont u learn, all electrical devices have to be switched off during take off, GOD!!! :P

  • An oldie!

  • wow that's old

  • dude how do you film them

  • great!

  • Neat

  • very nice

  • awesome video.
