Always wondered if my 2004 Mazda 6s (v6) could keep up with a mid-90's GT. Both are roughly the same HP (215 for the GT, 220 for the 6) and weight (3200 for the GT, 3300 for the 6). Although mine is an auto and probably has less torque. Hmm....

gm built a v12 back in the late 60, factory the engine put out a small 275hp. but it had 630 ft pounds of torque right off idle. hp gets you talking... torque gets you moving
But nyou can only get moving so much with limited hp.. You may have 630 ft pounds but with 275hp you will accelerate fast but you will not go at a high speed. It would be better to have 500hp and 400 ft pounds. Accelerate quickly and have a good top speed.

the v6 driver either cant drive or the v8 has at least an intake.although the v8 has a bit more power the v6 is still quick.track times are close too, 14.7 for v8 vs. 15.2 for v6.should have been a little closer
the 96 gt for stock did well, considering now they have new v6 mustangs pushing 302hp stock. for its year the 96 was awesome, now with mods done to it. the gt can be be fast as hell
@testy462 I ran 14.57 with my stock 98' GT, 3.27 gears. An 05-10' V6 runs mid 16s, if you ever actually went to a track and watched them, instead of reading Motor Trend and thinking that you're an expert. At any rate, this equals the V6 getting its ass handed to it, like in the video here.
Will it even keep up with the new 5.0? Good God no, but calling them a turd just shows your ignorance, particularly when it's taken into account that the car was meant to be a good performer IN 1996...
@NWpowerhouse85 14.50s on a NPI GT is almost an unbelievable time, as the aveage one ran in the low 15s. Still, a 14.50 car should not be walking a 2010 V6 like this.
And who said anything about a 5.0 V8? The 2011 V6 will walk all over a NPI GT stock for stock. There mid/low 14 second cars, making a good 75 more horsepower than a weak as NPI GT.

@testy462 I used the 5.0L V8(which is a beast) just for comparison sake, in the year 2011, it's a monster that will maul damn near any other car on the road, the 96-98' GT couldn't claim the same when it was out.
It's not non-believable, with the 2.73s, low 15's are about all that they were capable of, it's just a truck motor with dual exhaust lmao, no impressive top end power. Harsh power-shifting helps too :D
The V6 Mustangs are also faster with manuals. The V6 here is likely an auto.

96 GT weighs 86 lbs less and has 45 more torque and doesn't have a passenger. It's sad though that a GT owner would trash about another mustang, especially since this GT in particular is a V8 and only has 5hp more...

my 2006 v6 mustang has beated many 96 mustang gt's. i can't believe this is a stock mustang gt. the only mod on my stang has is dual exhaust. i'm faster off the line, get about a length, and then we're paced for the most part. i'll cross the line first because of the initial jump i got at the beginning. a simple 93 octane roush agressive shift tune has added probably 15-20 rwhp (though i haven't dynoed it), so a race now would be even more in my favor.
@NitroGadvRules I've only raced one 96, which had mods, that kept up with my old 2006 v6. Mine was an automatic, too. That means every single one that I raced, which was probably four or five, had to be crappy.
@odessaboy Well I don't know who you race but Its pretty much a proven fact with equal drivers that the non pi mustangs are still faster than the 4.0. They make their power lower in the rpm have like 50ft/lbs more torque and weigh less. They also run better stock 1/4 mile times. And the 96's are much faster off the line with a decent driver. They make their torque very low in the powerband.

I personally think that in 96', considering how long the GT had 225~horsepower, that it should've just gotten the B-headed Cobra engine of that year(305hp) and the Cobra itself should've gotten something higher, a blower, a 5.4, etc.

The '02 has 4.10 gears, 5 speed and about a dozen bolt-ons (in my videos actually). I have also driven, ridden in and raced dozens of V8 Mustangs from fox bodies to 2008, and even my friend's stock '96 GT 5 speed is faster than an '08 V6 Mustang, and an '04 GT 5 speed is about 5 car lengths faster than a good '96 GT.
@gtdrummerdude it actually did happen, both were auto's we went from a dig to around 70-80 mph before we had to brake cuz of a turn, and i was in front the whole time.. he did try cuz it was my friend and we wanted to race me cuz he had just gotten it.. beat him although he did win on the freeway from a 40 and 50 roll
@blackpenguin69 You got a lucky run. You raced from and to just the right speed to stay ahead, albeit an '04 GT auto is a slow car but an '08 V6 auto is still slower. 210 hp in a 3500 lb car doesn't make for a performance car.

im at 276 Rwhp in my 98 gt with just boltons so 220 is possible with bolt ons
in my 98 gt ive done PI head and intake manifold swap, CAI, flowmaster catback, BBK longtube headers, 78mm BBK throttle body w/ plenum and a SCT tune
all of the above was about $1800
and yes that is 268 to the wheels and not the crank
when i get my supercharger i plan on pushing 380+ rwhp

my 2006 v6 mustang has beated many 96 mustang gt's. i can't believe this is a stock mustang gt. the only mod on my stang has is dual exhaust. i'm faster off the line, get about a length, and then we're paced for the most part. i'll cross the line first because of the initial jump i got at the beginning. a simple 93 octane roush agressive shift tune has added probably 15-20 rwhp (though i haven't dynoed it), so a race now would be even more in my favor.

@NitroGadvRules I've only raced one 96, which had mods, that kept up with my old 2006 v6. Mine was an automatic, too. That means every single one that I raced, which was probably four or five, had to be crappy.

@odessaboy Well I don't know who you race but Its pretty much a proven fact with equal drivers that the non pi mustangs are still faster than the 4.0. They make their power lower in the rpm have like 50ft/lbs more torque and weigh less. They also run better stock 1/4 mile times. And the 96's are much faster off the line with a decent driver. They make their torque very low in the powerband.

I personally think that in 96', considering how long the GT had 225~horsepower, that it should've just gotten the B-headed Cobra engine of that year(305hp) and the Cobra itself should've gotten something higher, a blower, a 5.4, etc.

saw this coming. I used to have a 95 5.0 GT, and it was pretty quick. although the 05-08 V6's have 210hp about 5 less than my old 5.0, they have much less torque than the old GT. the result is the video you just posted above. lol. nice race!

hey kentucky friend, i think what they were trying to prove was that the hp an trq figures on the two cars is very much the same . 96 gt-215hp, 07 v6-210hp. @blackpenguin69 No, you didn't, or he wasn't trying. I have ridden in and driven handfuls of V6 Mustangs, from 2002 to 2008, auto and manual. The '02 has 4.10 gears, 5 speed and about a dozen bolt-ons (in my videos actually). I have also driven, ridden in and raced dozens of V8 Mustangs from fox bodies to 2008, and even my friend's stock '96 GT 5 speed is faster than an '08 V6 Mustang, and an '04 GT 5 speed is about 5 car lengths faster than a good '96 GT.

@gtdrummerdude it actually did happen, both were auto's we went from a dig to around 70-80 mph before we had to brake cuz of a turn, and i was in front the whole time.. he did try cuz it was my friend and we wanted to race me cuz he had just gotten it.. beat him although he did win on the freeway from a 40 and 50 roll

@blackpenguin69 You got a lucky run. You raced from and to just the right speed to stay ahead, albeit an '04 GT auto is a slow car but an '08 V6 auto is still slower. 210 hp in a 3500 lb car doesn't make for a performance car.
