68 but.... 21 ethnics are to small in number to even name them. Some are just of another branch of the same tribe. Has nothing to do with the communist... Laos is moving ahead faster than us going to school. Give them a break... :-)
I am not sure if I am right but I don't think it looks fashionable wearing Western High Heal with traditional Lao clothes. I think it looks funny. They should wear sandals.

Slight different accent in language, can communicate each other. Most of Thai dam are Animist while Lao are predominantly Buddhist. The dresses different.
every part of lao is diff,just listen to thre different dialects when pple talk.after you listen for awhile you will be able to tell cause they will eventually say what part they are from.
Lao ppl have very rich culture and traditions. We have 68 ethics Lao. Every ethnic has its own dress out fit. You can tell who they are by looking at their clothing. I am very proud to be part of this richly heritage.
