@DarthBigBen Yes it is a very good one for that cuz it is half the price of a real expensive bow like a "excalibur" but not a super cheap bow either. It is a good all around bow for shooting targets, rabbits and big game like Bear, Elk or Moose.I've taken Deer and Grouse with mine and my Cousin has also shot elk with his.
And no, it will not bruise a shoulder...it is not very violent to shoot. It is fairly noisy to shoot and they are not the easiest thing to carry around tho
Try something else for real excitement. My friend was sent his favorite crossbow to Afghanistan. He used itin an ambush at night. Bagged a militant and wounded another before they before the rest knew what was going on. He was not using one with wheels if you know what I mean. For safety, claymores were set on the perimeter but the militants had no idea where to look so they ran back where they came from.
I would believe that this a more humane way to hunt. It's harder and takes more skill than hunting with firearms and that too me makes it more even with nature. Just my thought.
So im gonna have to say it is kind of a cool idea but how much meat do you accually get out of the birds? I mean there already small breast. personally a real grouse hunter should wing shoot. Its unethical for me to ground pound any bird. But like I said it is kinda cool to use a different weapon than everyone else.
whats the fps on this bad boys??? we got groww up here mad and i'd never think of hitting them with a cross bow there's be no meat lol whats the fps your shootin at here? and is fps change able ?
@grimshaw24 you can shoot different speeds by changing your tips and arrows/bolts.
The ones I am using now shoot at 285 fps.
I just bought some new arrows with lumenoks...so I don't know exactly what they shoot at yet...but I like the idea of using lumenoks...you can watch where they go easier and they show up on vid way better
So yah, to answer your other question...you can play with the speed a fair amount...probably from like 200 fps to 300 fps with this bow depending on your setup
@citationxbjfv Yes Pedro, it is always a possibility. We do lose them from time to time...and sometimes many. I have only lost 6 or 7 in four years though...so its not like I've lost tons of them. I have worse luck in that I have had many break from hitting rock or hard woods and other substrates.
@anavidhunter yes sir,,wild boar in south texas,,used to hunt in mexico were i am from,,but the situation is really bad,,,i mean bad,,,,,what i mean,,is that the area is quite different where we hunt,,thats why my question,,,
@chaosmage99 No, can't says I does...unfortunately. I have wondered the same thing myself.
It looks like you must be able to buy gear to attatch. Try putting in a search on here...I've seen people shooting Catfish, Gars and Carp with them on here...maybe try asking them.
@chaosmage99 MUZZY BROADHEADS,,,CHECK IT OUT,,YOU CAN CROSSBOW FISHING "ALLIGATORS"!!! YES SIR,,AS YOU HEAR ALLIGATOR,,BESIDES OF SMALL FISH,,,WITH A CROSSBOW ATTACHMENT FOR CROSSBOW FISH,,,
my dad and his friend just got back from hunting and he went to our camp site and he seen a grouse on the deck, and he got a stick and killed it. tasty :)

@firestar9999 I live on Vancouver Island. We drive to the Kootenays each year...it is awesome there. I have hunted lots of places there and generations of my family have been going there to hunt Elk, Deer. We like to hunt Turkey there and I hunt Mt Goat too. Lots of fantastic hunting in the Kootenays!
Thats a great bow you got, congrats.
It is very fast from what I hear...something like 350 feet per second and light to carry. Good luck and good hunting. Let me know if I can help you at all.
Thumbs up from me, Kyle! I must admit, I've never seen that kind of Grouse hunting before. Pretty cool! What do they taste like? I know! Like chicken, right? LOL! I think just about anything wild tastes better than chicken, but I still like chicken. Were those Montec G5 Broadheads I was seeing? I enjoyed the show!
What is the model of your bow. I just bought a PSE Copperhead. Taking it out for turkeys in California. Did that scope come with yours or did you add it?
@Paumonsu and eating factory slaughtered and preservative stuffed meat packaged for your convenience at the local big box grocery store is for hairy chested manly men, eh? get outside and become part of the food chain before you make stupid comments.
Whitetails, Grouse and Coyote like the quads, and just usually sit there and stare at you as long as you don't kill the engine...and for the what seems like the thousandth time I've had to explain this...we were heading for a Elk hunting spot and saw a Grouse on the way which would make for a great meal so we went for it.

You know what i hate, people who support peta and leave annoying animal comments. HELLO Read the title people. If you don't want to see some dude shooting Grouse with a crossbow don't watch the fucking video. Nice video by the way!
I hear yah there...usually for the most part the "people" (I use the term loosely LOL) who leave such stupid comments either have no life of their own or are simply uneducated or misinformed of what they speak of. Either way...they prove to most that they are not worthy of intelligent conversation.
Those anti-whatever "people" do more harm for the environment and much more harm to lifes living creatures, plants and animals, than the average hunter ever would or could. Thanks!!
@anavidhunter That's funny, because it is hunters that are the stupid ones it seems. I haven't met an argument I could not rebuke, and I am constantly finding more things that blow modern day hunting mis-conceptions away. But I have found that the hunting pages on youtube are the least likely spots to have intelligent conversations.
@anavidhunter One of you guys looks like a mall ninja with all that camo on. Dont need camo hunting them in southern BC, just give you that same stunned expression if you went hunting in a business suit. Few years back I was in Grand Forks, climbed up a ponderosa and grabbed one outta the tree like a crab apple. Where abouts are you hunting? All said I like these crossbows. Strange seeing them used for grouse, but either way, stay safe and happy hunting!
@vaxinius It is funny how many people jump to their own conclusions...we were Elk hunting and came across the grouse...which makes for a great meal at camp later...thats why we are in camo...but there is nothing wrong with getting decked out in whatever clothing you wish for any type of field excursion.
You can go up to grouse in the spring...but most take off in the fall if you try and approach them.
We hunt all over the Kootenays...this was by kimberly.
I have a couple of bows...but i want to shoot them with my PSE 165# Compound Crossbow with 3 lazer dot scope set at 20, 30 and 40 yards.
Yes, I have several types of arrows, bolts, broadheads and field tips in carbon fibre, graphite and alluminum...but for years now I use ICS Beman Thunderbolts.
They work great. I like the Muzzys cuz they stay sharp. But I like the idea of the big cutting diameter...quicker harvest/tracking.
muzzys are insanely reliable, but i prefer gaping wounds the size of Manhattan on my game can't be bothered to go track one for an hour especially at night.
but the expanding heads needs alot of maintenance
by the way, do you have any contacts who are selling second hand matthews bows and if they could ship them to uk and sell them via ebay?
I love my Muzzys...but I to prefer a gaping wound...quicker and cleaner...better for us and the animal. I just noticed that these trophy ridge are ROCKET areoheads...and thats funny cuz I was just about to tell you that I only have one imediate friend I can think of with a Mathews...he shoots a Drenlin with Rocket mechanicals and he is Ken...in my video Haywire's bear hunt and Ken's Bear hunt or something like that.
I'll have a look around for you, maybe shop some prices.
rocket aeroheads is just a marketing gimmick hahaha
they are normal xpanding heads, but with a much better cutting edge, and a titanium coating. apart from the buckblaster which is a broadhead/expanding. hybrid.
We were actually on an Elk and Deer hunt...so we were set up for them and we just can't let all those tasty Grouse go without getting some for a tasty meal.
When you say Turkey arrowheads...what do you mean exactly?
I have some huge broadheads with a 2 3/4 inch cutting diameter for Turkey called "TURKEY TOM-O-HAWK" but I think they would be a lil over kill for a grouse.
I bought the Trophy Ridge "BuckBlaster" broadheads...haven't tried them yet.
Wasn't sure how to test them? Thought it might wreck them to shoot them into one of my blocks. And the weights are different than my other broadheads.
I tried one shot with my Turkey Tom-o-hawk and missed my block and hit a tree and wrecked the mechanical blades? So I haven't even figured them out yet.
I love my Muzzy's...they shoot awesome but don't have the huge cut.
On a red deer I get full penetration with a 7/10 chance with it going straight through . sometimes slicing through the bones. that thing does more damage than a 140grain 357mag with minimal hydrostatic shock. but the wound is so severe that they bleed off in minutes.
to test them on medium density polystyrene with a foam and straw mat sandwich at the back. the foam will catch and slow the buckmaster and not dammage the blades.
I was just telling my friend about red deer...I would love to hunt them and I think most hunters would. Red Deer are one of the kulest big game animals.
So you shoot your buckmaster with the optional fixed and mechanical blades making it 125 grain broadhead?
I only shoot 90 and 100 grain Muzzy broadheads...how do I sight in for such a heavy shot...do I just start real close and adjust my sights?
When I tried the tomohawk I thought it would be close but I missed the block LOL
For sure...we made up a saying a few years ago that we prove to ourselves every year..."the deer love the quad and the Elk hate the quad"...meaning that we have had tons of Deer just stop and stare as we drive right up to them with the quad...get off and load our Bows with all the time in the world in many cases...while you see an Elk and it runs at the sound of the quad LOL.
Usually Whitetails can be spooky...but they love the quad LOL...and so do grouse :D
You can find many that will work...but not any...some can't take the impact and some just don't fit...plus they have awesome ones made for bows that have lots of yardage sights like my cousin has.
Yes, his scope and my uncles have graduated lines you can sight into for various yardages...plus they have the added advantage of magnification from the scope too. There are some nice scopes out for bows.
I just have 3 pin dot sights...with no magnification...but I still get the job done.
they both have their complications...I like the horizontal crossbow for hunting on the ground better cuz you can have your bow ready to shoot...with a vertical bow when you draw it can spook the game :D
ok,i said in my comment that i thought hunting with a crossbow is harder...i actually got that mixed up...lol...but yeah...a compound can spook game when you draw it...but that it part of the challenge...thats why i like bowhunting(hunting with a compound or recurve)
Does anyone know if Alberta has a longer season for crossbow hunting ruffed grouse than rifle hunting? I cant find it on the Alberta game bird page and regulations. These guys got me thinking in a whole new way. Any help is appreciated.
if you complain about bird hunting, you have better be a vegen. Because farm animals go through way more hardship than free hunted animals. So go complain to the farm industry before you bug hunters.
Damn those birds are tame. Atv roars loudly and it just chills about 20m from it. Well, I've seen same stuff happen here in Finland but you can't get as close as he got without grouse flying away. Trees seemed to be planted. They were same age and partly there was no undergrowth. We kind of have a problem 'cause big birds don't survive in our planted forests.
why the fuck do u watch this if u dont like hunting ur just another little whiney bitch on youtube so dont u go get a gun and shoot ur self in the fucking head
nice shooting, where are you hunting? cause here in eastern Canada, we're not allowed to use crossbows on small game or hunt spruce grouse, they're protected here?
I'm wearing an AC/DC shirt right now "For Those About To Rock" LOL
I'm from Vancouver Island...my cuz lives in Kewlona.
I saw my cousin take a blue grouse with a 30-06 and took its head clean gone and luckly never even touched a bit of meat on the breast...and I saw my best friend do the same thing as you with his first ever hot with a 4 10 shotgun...pooof...feathers!!!
I think the challenge of only having 1 shot to take your game, and having range limitations makes gathering game with a crossbow so much more fullfilling. What is the draw weights on the bows used?
I don't give a fuck about what 'em treehugging hippie/Greenpeace freaks say about love & let live. They ain't never ate a FRESHLY killed game. Its soo much more juicer than the supermarket bullshit. thats to the vegan lactose intolerant hippie below me.
It takes insane skill to use a crossbow, good choice of weapon! silent & deadly as oppose to the rifle. One shot off a rifle will scatter them but with a crossbow they don't get scared..
Mmmm...fresh Wild Turkey, Elk and all the other delicious treasures we can experience from natures big ole grocery store :D
I love bow hunting...and love many things about archery inlcluding the way you are right there up and close...awesome experiences and you have to be stealth most times to get close enough.
yep, you are entitiled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine, even though they may differ drastically. If you need to eat veggies to lead a good life by all means do it, DON'T cramp it down EVERYONE'S throat with your "holier than thou" attitude. Humans are OMNIVOUS, we eat EVERYTHING! We're desgined that way, thats why u have Cannine teeths.
Humans are the MOST dangerous/smartest animal on Earth, now theres a challenge for a hunter!
lol!!! fly too fast... fly too furious... that first bird was too fast to u, man.. xDDD
anyways... nice hunting. i love crossbows :)

Two questions. Is this a good crossbow for target shooters and beginers? Would this crossbow bruise someone's shoulder if fired from the shoulder?

Dont need camo hunting them in southern BC, just give you that same stunned expression if you went hunting in a business suit. Few years back I was in Grand Forks, climbed up a ponderosa and grabbed one outta the tree like a crab apple. Where abouts are you hunting? All said I like these crossbows. Strange seeing them used for grouse, but either way, stay safe and happy hunting!
vaxinius 8 months ago
@vaxinius It is funny how many people jump to their own conclusions...we were Elk hunting and came across the grouse...which makes for a great meal at camp later...thats why we are in camo...but there is nothing wrong with getting decked out in whatever clothing you wish for any type of field excursion.
You can go up to grouse in the spring...but most take off in the fall if you try and approach them.
We hunt all over the Kootenays...this was by kimberly.
Good adventures to you too.

they are eating it dumbass. it's grouse kinda like a small chicken
jarostone 1 year ago
@jarostone
You got that right, and thanks...they are and can be great eating and very tasty.
anavidhunter 1 year ago
@anavidhunter
i can hook you up with my contacts on the island of mauritius.
it's paradise on earth, they have a 7 day package i forgot how much.
mechanical blades. i held them close with a piece of thin silk mesh.
the buckmaster is about 126 grain.
what type of bow and sight do you use??
do you know that you will need to re-tune each time you change arrows?
nainladen 1 year ago
@nainladen
That would be awesome...but I bet its mega bucks.
But I like the idea of the big cutting diameter...quicker harvest/tracking.
anavidhunter 1 year ago
@anavidhunter
You an go make an enquiry on lechasseurmauricien
muzzys are insanely reliable, but i prefer gaping wounds the size of Manhattan on my game can't be bothered to go track one for an hour especially at night.
but the expanding heads needs alot of maintenance
by the way, do you have any contacts who are selling second hand matthews bows and if they could ship them to uk and sell them via ebay?
here in uk they are very rare.
i will be very greatful
nainladen 1 year ago
@nainladen
I'll have a look around for you, maybe shop some prices.
anavidhunter 1 year ago
@anavidhunter
thank you loads
i am looking for about $350-400 p&p included
used but in good condition.
rocket aeroheads is just a marketing gimmick hahaha
they are normal xpanding heads, but with a much better cutting edge, and a titanium coating. apart from the buckblaster which is a broadhead/expanding. hybrid.
think of it as a muzzy with expanding blades
with nearly no extra weight gain
nainladen 1 year ago
Why not using turkey arrowheads?
nainladen 1 year ago
@nainladen
Which arrow heads were you referring to?
anavidhunter 1 year ago
@anavidhunter
the trophy ridge tomahawk is very accuracy forgiving and looks awesome. i personally use a magnus bullhead on a drenalin with 60lb limbs.
but for the java red deer "i live in the indian ocean" , nothing beats the trophy ridge buckmaster, but it's a bit heavy though.
nainladen 1 year ago
@nainladen
Thats great info, thanks.
I love my Muzzy's...they shoot awesome but don't have the huge cut.
anavidhunter 1 year ago
@anavidhunter
On a red deer I get full penetration with a 7/10 chance with it going straight through . sometimes slicing through the bones. that thing does more damage than a 140grain 357mag with minimal hydrostatic shock. but the wound is so severe that they bleed off in minutes.
to test them on medium density polystyrene with a foam and straw mat sandwich at the back. the foam will catch and slow the buckmaster and not dammage the blades.
nainladen 1 year ago
@nainladen
When I tried the tomohawk I thought it would be close but I missed the block LOL

madbillt66 1 year ago
@madbillt66 if you turn the quad off they will scare....leave it on and they stay!
adietdrpepper 1 year ago
@adietdrpepper

@anavidhunter yeah, elk scared quick....I saw some this weekend....they were gone so quick i couldn't even get the camera out.

Will any scope fit a crossbow? I was going to get one for a C5 wildcat. Do i need anything to fit one?
OBrien19 2 years ago
You can find many that will work...but not any...some can't take the impact and some just don't fit...plus they have awesome ones made for bows that have lots of yardage sights like my cousin has.
anavidhunter 2 years ago
your cousin has yardage sights?
donorcanvas 1 year ago
Yes, his scope and my uncles have graduated lines you can sight into for various yardages...plus they have the added advantage of magnification from the scope too. There are some nice scopes out for bows.
I just have 3 pin dot sights...with no magnification...but I still get the job done.

does anyone think that hunting with a crossbow is harder than hunting with a compound? just wondering,cause i do
fishnkid1923 2 years ago
they both have their complications...I like the horizontal crossbow for hunting on the ground better cuz you can have your bow ready to shoot...with a vertical bow when you draw it can spook the game :D
anavidhunter 2 years ago
ok,i said in my comment that i thought hunting with a crossbow is harder...i actually got that mixed up...lol...but yeah...a compound can spook game when you draw it...but that it part of the challenge...thats why i like bowhunting(hunting with a compound or recurve)
fishnkid1923 2 years ago
i miss worded this...i think that a compound is harder than a crossbow...
fishnkid1923 2 years ago
@fishnkid1923
in shooting accuracy with less practice...you are right...vertical is harder than horizontal.
Though a vertical bow for me seems easier to obtain precision.
Accuracy = hitting the bullseye.
Precision = a tight grouping of shots.
However...crossbow is awkward/harder/heavier to carry and that can be a big deal when you walk the miles like we often do LOL
All Bows are awesome:longbows, recurves, compounds and crossbows...they all are great in their own ways.
anavidhunter 2 years ago
its a compound crossbow
my tac-15 shoots @412 ftps

Does anyone know if Alberta has a longer season for crossbow hunting ruffed grouse than rifle hunting? I cant find it on the Alberta game bird page and regulations. These guys got me thinking in a whole new way. Any help is appreciated.

question- is there any point in hunting sprucy's? Dont they taste like crap? I thought Ruffies were the only one of the two worth hunting?
Saligubung 2 years ago
if you complain about bird hunting, you have better be a vegen. Because farm animals go through way more hardship than free hunted animals. So go complain to the farm industry before you bug hunters.

it's ilegal to hunt near by a veichel
smekisy 2 years ago
Not necessarily. It really depends on what area you hunt in. You can hunt on an ATV in certain places and near a vehicle/ road system.
TreeTrappin 2 years ago
Damn those birds are tame. Atv roars loudly and it just chills about 20m from it. Well, I've seen same stuff happen here in Finland but you can't get as close as he got without grouse flying away. Trees seemed to be planted. They were same age and partly there was no undergrowth. We kind of have a problem 'cause big birds don't survive in our planted forests.

I'm wearing an AC/DC shirt right now "For Those About To Rock" LOL
I'm from Vancouver Island...my cuz lives in Kewlona.
I saw my cousin take a blue grouse with a 30-06 and took its head clean gone and luckly never even touched a bit of meat on the breast...and I saw my best friend do the same thing as you with his first ever hot with a 4 10 shotgun...pooof...feathers!!!
anavidhunter 2 years ago

Mmmm...fresh Wild Turkey, Elk and all the other delicious treasures we can experience from natures big ole grocery store :D

yep, you are entitiled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine, even though they may differ drastically.
