This may be a stupid comment, but did anyone besides me actually enjoy vince's play by play? I thought he was great and there was a time when for me it didn't sound right when someone else did it.
I remember watching all of the SNME's with my step dad and brother.
This was back when they had a reason to have it on simply because all you
saw on their weekly shows were mismatches where you knew who was going to win.
So they had these evey few months so fans that watched TV could see some decent if not great matches. Now days they have better matches and champions defending their titles on their weekly shows. So SNME isnt really needed anymore. Back then, this was a big event.
Does Anybody have the match with the million dollar man and Hulk Hogan for this Saturday Night's Main Event ? I saw it here on Youtube once but now I can't find it.
Vince no doubt changed the theme music to something original (but not better i my opinion) instead of having to pay royality checks to the group Animotion for the use of their song "Obession" (or at least the music from it)
This was when Saturday Night's Main Event meant something. When you were watching it on TV it had the PPV atmosphere. Compare that to the more recent ones they had where it was just another show.
Post the matches from this show! I was at Riverfront Coliseum (Now US BANK Arena) for this event! It was actually taped in September of 89 and was 5 hours long! WWE taped 3 Superstars of wrestling shows and scattered the SNME matches throughout the night! The place eas electric for the main event. Hulk Hogan and Ted Dibiase!!! This is my favorite SNME!
There is nothing I looked forward more than watch SNME in the late 80's and early 90's!!! I used to tape it on Saturday night, and watch it on Sunday morning, and couldn't hardly sleep at all cause I couldn't hardly wait until I could watch it! The promos were the best, and the 2nd theme was and still is my all time favorite!!
Wrestling went from fun in the 80s, to semi-fun in the 90s/early 2000s to absolutely atrocious in the latter half of 2000s and beyond.. Thanks, Mr. McMahon :(
Forget WWF/WWE Superstars, WWF/WWE Raw, WWF/WWE Smackdown, WCW World-Wide, WCW Saturday Night, WCW Nitro, WCW Thunder, ECW Hardcore TV and TNA Impact. WWF Saturday Night's Main Event was the greatest Wrestling TV show ever!
you are so right. saturday night's main event were the pay per views of the day and you didn't have to pay for it. i loved staying up til 1:00 watching them.
I have this show and 9 other SNME shows on 9 discs that i am willing to part with. They are the shows as they aired originally (minus commercials). If anyone is interested, message me.
I did enjoy the Oktoberfest segment on the dvd damn it was so funny with Lord Alfred Hayes drunk . Vince and Jesse on commentary bring back some childhood memories to me , and they put some of their best matches featuring my favorite wrestlers of all time the immortal Hulk Hogan and the macho man Randy Savage .
well i wont be gettin the disc. i hate when vince and the wwe have to be cheap to not wanna pay for copyright stuff. it ruins the mood of wanting to relive the classics when they change certain songs or the announcers.
just got the dvd today and i have to say it is just awesome i highly recommend it to all wwe dvd collectors and to people who are old school wwf fans its incredible go get it for sure
well the menus are different music the none of the discs use this theme and all the entrances are intact except for a few matches like hogan and funk and t and piper otherwise theyre all there its great highly recommended for sure
only wrestlers I knew in this ad was Hogan and rody viper! ^_^ I miss them. I got a hogan bear on WWEShop! ^_^! Now I collect the cards and everything. Actually when I was 8 or 9 my boyfriend kinda forced me to watch WWF, but then I got hooked into it, so yeah thanks to him ^_^ We still watch WWE as of today in 2008. wow THIS IS THE LONGEST SHOW EVER TO RUN ON TV OVER 800 EPS OF RAW SINCE WWF
I have a lot of WWE WWF stuff ^_^ too bad they did not kept the F in. lol. WWE has gotten more popular since 1985, hehe I was born in 1981 so I watched WWE when I was 10yrs old RAW WWF was great! Now it stinks
Saturday Nights Main Event was awesome. It was the only way to see superstar vs superstar on regular tv. The other WWF shows were lopsided no name wrestlers. Then at the end, they might have a superstar vs a no name.
And if you didn't have $50 for a PPV.
LOL about Zeus. Remember the build up to Zeus vs Hogan?
This WWF event was in Portland,Maine. At the cumberland county civic center.Just by chance I was looking at all these golden oldies. And I found myself and a friend in the video.24 secs. in, wow (what a rush!).
I was there for that show! Third row, directly opposite of the ring entrance. I still have the photos, tickets, and great memories. Thank you for the upload!
I always thought it would be cool if they did that for the Saturday Night Main Event revivals they did. Have the exact same style intro with the new stars.

I have every episode and they are perfect quality, on DVD, and I have all the Madison Square Gardens etc.... over 4000 Dvd's send me a message for details
wow, this takes me back to my childhood... I can remember staying up to watch SNME and getting the shivers when it came on.. it felt magical as a kid. Irreplacable memories! I wonder if I still have them recorded on Betamax tapes.. hmmm
I have all the SNME's from 1989 and two from 1990 on VHS tape. Quality is watchable (nearly 20 years old). If anyone is interested, send me a message. 8 shows on 4 tapes.

If there's anyone out there who has a good quality mp3 of this SNME intro music, PLEASE send me a message if you want to try to email the song to me. Thanks in advance
The theme and intro music was the greatest. The 2 key reasons that the show has stuck in my head for years. When SNME came back I expected them to adleast keep tradition alive but thats not WWF style. The last one they had was like a "heat" card.
I remember being disappointed cause I wait up until the news ended or whatever, and then Saturday Night Live would come on! (obviously before i could appreciate SNL) But SNME was never consistent, so I never knew when it was coming on
Ah, "my" golden age of wrestling. Don't know if it's because I'm getting older and I was a child back then but the whole atmosphere was different at that time. Much much better.
this was when wrestling and the wwe kicked Ass!....i think the problem with wwe and its only what i think about it ...is that they are trying to find an audience instead of letting an audience find them....i dunno.
One of the best sports/sports entertainment theme tunes ever. Thanks for posting this and taking me back to a time when WWF was the hottest thing on TV!
Wow, back in the 80s the wwf really was blessed with talent, just look at all the guys featured in that clip..All of them would be WWE champion today, but then they were just considered mid-carders. Its such an injustice that people like Ted Dibiase,Rick Martel, Curt Henning and Rick Rude never got the spotlight they deserved......they show Cena up for what he is, a third rate chump who would be jobbing to the Red Rooster in the golden age of wrestling. Plus I love the music.
this was the best opening theme in wrestling history. i was 10 when saturday night's main event started and there were 3 constants. 1 hogan wrestling.2 savage wrestling. the last jesse humilating vince at every turn. Back when wrestling was wrestling.
I love how Roddy Piper is marching to the ring on a mission with that crazed look, and he smacks that guy with a backhand. And then Bobby Heenan makes a face like "what the fuck are you looking at, humanoid?!"
This is one of the best theme tunes to ANY programme. The introduction clips to SNME always made the shows feel special, and made the pro-wrestlers in the clip look a million bucks and larger than life. Great!
lol i always wondered why my rowdy roddy piper action figure from hasbro had elbow pads but now i know that piper actually wore elbow pads at one point as i can see on this video
Slick didn't manage Martel that long. Just a little bit after Martel's heel turn in 1989. Martel was on his own after the "Model" character was created.
I don't know the name of theme. When I found it on Limewire, I just typed something like "wwf saturday" in the audio section, and it came up (perfect quality too). Unfortunately I deleted it from my harddrive a long time ago, but it should still be there if you try it.
What a fantastic clip!! I enjoyed reading all the other comments here, too, 'cause I feel the same way. Wrestling from the 80s--it will never be topped!
I'm lucky enough to have every episode of SNME on DVD unedited. of course they are bootleg copies that i bought on ebay, but ever since vinnie mac has gone after the tape traders, i aint ever getting rid of these things
You know tha sad part about all of this is not only teh fact that the re-incarnation of SNME is absolute terrible, but if the did release a SMNE DVD collection Jesse "The Body" Ventura's PRICELESS commentary will probably be editted out of the DVDs because Vince's cheap ass doesn't want to pay Ventura royalties. Ridiculous.
That's why I'll never buy a DVD of anything of the WWF days. When I buy something, I wanna see it exactly as it aired then. And I don't wanna see that ugly ass WWE logo in the bottom corner that didn't exist back when the organization was respectable.
I miss the good ol days of the WWF. Last time that SNME aired recently, it had lower ratings than the 1st return of SNME before it. That is sad. Wrestling was cool back then and now it has turned into the Vinnie Mac show. I guess it is more important to have himself in matches han give a rats ass what the fans want or think.
I agree. I miss the good old days. I saw the first SNME revival, and hated it. Just a glorified Raw/Smackdown show. It's too much now as it is such an oversaturated product.
I think the problem with the current incarnation of SNME is that now that we have a ppv every month, instead of just four like before, special main events are getting, well, less "special." It's just oversaturation.
This reminds me of when I actually looked forward to watching wrestling. Saturday Night's Main Event (the original...not the crap in 2006) is the greatest televised wrestling program/series ever. The newer fans won't appreciate how significant it was in the '80's, but it was huge. Great stuff.
I still watch WWE and TNA, i went to the Great American Bash and was great to see a PPV live.....but i miss the WWF / WCW days, they were the best and will never be beaten.
The only thing that would make this cooler is if they had the little promos before in front of thier logos. this was a great time to be a fan. Awesome!
oh man good damn memories. those days were fun with technical wrestlers who were the game inside and out. master of their craft which is rare now. i miss them a lot
Those were the good ol' days...Back when you'd beg your mom to let you stay up late on a Saturday Night....When you'd mark out just seeing a commercial for an SNME that night....Ahh..life....
This may be a stupid comment, but did anyone besides me actually enjoy vince's play by play? I thought he was great and there was a time when for me it didn't sound right when someone else did it.

LOL @ Rick Martel and Slick dancing
I didn't know he managed him That would have been priceless to see
Showtimedr 5 years ago
Slick didn't manage Martel that long. Just a little bit after Martel's heel turn in 1989. Martel was on his own after the "Model" character was created.

anyone have the old WWF Best of SNME video? Its awesome, especially the opening five mins of Vince and Jesse introductions from various shows
bionicelbow 5 years ago
The theme is on Limewire. I downloaded it a long time ago, it should still be there.
CV31 5 years ago
What is the name of the theme song?
DBen1992 5 years ago
I don't know the name of theme. When I found it on Limewire, I just typed something like "wwf saturday" in the audio section, and it came up (perfect quality too). Unfortunately I deleted it from my harddrive a long time ago, but it should still be there if you try it.
CV31 5 years ago
This is known unofficially as "SNME theme #2". Most WWF Themes from the Late 80s to Mid 90s had no names.

DO anyone know where I can download the intro theme. The new theme is terrible. They should have re-used this one.
JerseyNYC83 5 years ago
This was a great show, but I don't remember that intro theme being used.

That video makes me wanna watch that show! That video made everyone advertised for the event important to watch.
ECW (version circa 1995 to 2001) used to produce a good opening vid too.

What a fantastic clip!! I enjoyed reading all the other comments here, too, 'cause I feel the same way. Wrestling from the 80s--it will never be topped!

Thanks so much for this, I loved SNME

I'm lucky enough to have every episode of SNME on DVD unedited. of course they are bootleg copies that i bought on ebay, but ever since vinnie mac has gone after the tape traders, i aint ever getting rid of these things
AlbanianMan 5 years ago
You know tha sad part about all of this is not only teh fact that the re-incarnation of SNME is absolute terrible, but if the did release a SMNE DVD collection Jesse "The Body" Ventura's PRICELESS commentary will probably be editted out of the DVDs because Vince's cheap ass doesn't want to pay Ventura royalties. Ridiculous.
xpander2k 5 years ago
That's why I'll never buy a DVD of anything of the WWF days. When I buy something, I wanna see it exactly as it aired then. And I don't wanna see that ugly ass WWE logo in the bottom corner that didn't exist back when the organization was respectable.

I miss the good ol days of the WWF. Last time that SNME aired recently, it had lower ratings than the 1st return of SNME before it. That is sad. Wrestling was cool back then and now it has turned into the Vinnie Mac show. I guess it is more important to have himself in matches han give a rats ass what the fans want or think.
mooky9669 5 years ago
I agree. I miss the good old days. I saw the first SNME revival, and hated it. Just a glorified Raw/Smackdown show. It's too much now as it is such an oversaturated product.
acehighpat 5 years ago
I think the problem with the current incarnation of SNME is that now that we have a ppv every month, instead of just four like before, special main events are getting, well, less "special." It's just oversaturation.

I still get goosebumps when I hear that music hit.

I'm 28 and SNME was the greatest thing next to a WWF PPV. Hogan wrestling anybody on SNME was a HUGE deal. I wish I had taped them.
Haven't watched wrestling for 10 years. This stuff now is no different than Jerry Springer.

Saturday Night's Main Event, Superstars and SmackDown were my best WWE TV Shows ever!

SNME had an awesome openining music.
godzilla0083 5 years ago
This reminds me of when I actually looked forward to watching wrestling. Saturday Night's Main Event (the original...not the crap in 2006) is the greatest televised wrestling program/series ever. The newer fans won't appreciate how significant it was in the '80's, but it was huge. Great stuff.

ITA. There was a time I use to rush home and watch it. But I have not watched wrestling now for almost 4 years now.

I still watch WWE and TNA, i went to the Great American Bash and was great to see a PPV live.....but i miss the WWF / WCW days, they were the best and will never be beaten.

I wish they would use this for the beginning of the NEW Saturday Night's Main Event. That would be awesome.
bill1985 5 years ago
The only thing that would make this cooler is if they had the little promos before in front of thier logos. this was a great time to be a fan. Awesome!

Those were the good ol' days...Back when you'd beg your mom to let you stay up late on a Saturday Night....When you'd mark out just seeing a commercial for an SNME that night....Ahh..life....
