@LOLittleHero the ref is there to regulate when there is too much contact, also to stop and call points whenever a hit is landed. it's practice for open tournament so we train with a ref just like how it would be for the tourney.

@ichibanniko surely choy lee fut is a self defence art. shouldn't you be training for self defence not competition? one hit won't kill you, bearing in mind that you're sparring. okay maybe the ref can be there since its open competition rules. personally i think the one hit stop rule should be removed

@LOLittleHero Yes, I'm aware it's a self defense art and is meant to be used in real fight situations - I always stress this fact. But I train my guys for all sorts of situations including competition sparring although I'm not a big fan of it myself, but it's better to be well rounded and it gives the guys a good, fun and legal way to test their skills against others because I do not encourage people to get out there and pick fights on the street.

good sparring match i just never could hold my arms that far away from my body feel it slows down speed but still two good fighters wish them luck in there open tournys. what lienage do you study

@SSCrew28 Thanks for the kind words. We are from the Chui Cheung Association originating in Hong Kong and my Sifu started teaching here in Canada in the 1990's.  We are taught to concentrate on the footwork, so our hands being out there actually adds to our speed in some respects. I also hope they do well in their coming tournaments :)

@papertiger7 Thanks bro, they just started getting them to spar so they don't have much experience yet and can't control their hits so I gotta keep the gear on :P
