My question is I am about to buy Rg1570 and someone said it is better to change the pickups. I mostly play Dream Theater. What do you think about them for that sound?
There was a point when I disliked the V8. It seemed to have muddy lows and fizzy treble. I lowered the pickups and NEVER cranked Vol & Tone knobs, which really solved this problem (thats what I do in this video)
I recently installed the CrunchLab and regret it. Now I know, that the V8 was a very versatile, warm and articulate pup, at least compared to the CL!
There are better ones, but the Vs are ok. And the rest about this guitar is just insane. I love it! Go for it!
1:54... intense picking!! Your forearm is completely still... very relaxed... great technique!! Hard to tell if your attack comes from the wrist or a combination of the wrist + thumb
Actually, I worked hard at my picking. I figured out that I like the attack of these Dunlop Jazz III picks especially with a slight angle. It gives you a smooth and defined feel (because the picks where obviously designed for Jazz), but it's also a contrast to legato, which is actually the point in picking every note.
Changing the angle of your thumb (and mixing alternate picking with legato) gives you a much more versatile tone, too!

Most of my picking is coming from the wrist, by the way. My thumb would get tired after a few minutes :)
