Dear jadex,

Once a year can't you just bring back old runecape for us. We all hate the new updates, atleast once a year bring back old runescape for us, and for that day also bring back tutorial island. I miss that freedom when I was a kid, I'm not saying the new updates are all bad, but atleast on e a year bring back old runescape like on 24th of August, which is my brithday.

the way jagex makes runescape is that how people make private servers?

@funnybuddy89 Not at all. A Java Gaming Expert re-wrote the original RuneScape source and released it to the web, and modern private server owners borrow the source, and add their own codes. Some add their own codes an re-release the source, stating it's their own, but it's really not. Only a select few private servers re-write their own source, but none of them have to do what Jagex does.

They use Java SE and create their own code base as they need it.

Graphics is easy to make, you can have it done in a matter of hours, is the programming that takes for ever. By the way, what program are they using?

They are using software built in house. It's continually being updated and works with probably dozens of other programs that we don't know about.

@Idesty the code is called RuneScript, & its open source, but they use a more advanced & ofc closed-source version of it.

It's a modified version of Blender which is an open source modelling package - look it up on Wikipedia you'll see the similarities in screen shots. Because it's open source (and hence free) it can be modified as seen here by the Jagex development team so it's not entirely all done by Jagex.

Most games companies use 3D Studio Max or Maya but these are proprietary and hence cost lots of money. The map editor appears to be an entirely in-house creation.

I wouldn't say it is quick and effortless as this is only one step of the process from idea to content. Jagex have been building on their tools and improving them a lot over time to make it easier. Jagex stated that they can easily make their graphics similar to that of the latest games being released but it is just a matter of supporting the majority over the minority. The core concepts of the game was many years ago so you can't correctly compare a game that isn't half the age of RuneScape.

Animation- and other graphical updates appeal to me the most. It must be incredibly hard to animate the latest creatures like the living rock - or how about that troll! God, I'd love to try those things myself one day. Hope JaGEx will put their program for download one day.

The programs that are up there are what Jagex uses for their content creation. Everything they use for RuneScape and FunOrb uses in-house technology.
