You know what I LOVE about music? You can get one piece, written by one composer, and hear it played in hundreds of different ways but hundreds of different performers.
I love variety in tempo etc. (within reason haha) so YAY FOR THIS VERSION, it is beautiful.
Simile all'impetuoso e gelido vento siberiano ma con maestria e calore partenopeo, questo pezzo riesce sempre a farmi provare qualche brivido dietro la schiena.
I don't think it's too fast... I just heard this piece for the first time played on the radio, so I looked it up, and this guy is playing it EXACTLY at the same tempo that was played on the radio... Just because it's in minor doesn't mean it has to be at a snails pace. Take 'the wild horseman' for example, that's minor but played bloody fast.
Of course one have to feel this sonata...all those VI degrees after a dominante and all those phrygian cadenzas...I need here more rubato and a little bit slower tempo. But very professional performance.
I think that it could be slower, but this tempo also work. Remember, tempo is not speed, but rather a state of mind and emotion. This tempo makes the wholeness of the piece clearer.

un super son !! mais un peu trop rapide, on n'a pas le temps d'apprécier les notes. Mais très musical malgré la vitesse.

In fact, many people play this sonata with rubato and pedal. But Koltakov is like a swiss clock.

Was he in some competition? With all those flags... A bit fast to my own taste, but great pianism.

Bah, completely destroyed the mood of the piece.
Its a MINOR piece man, play it slowly, it makes people suffer!
So many suspensions in this piece, clearly leading to a state of pain.
Awesome playing anyway, Slower would be a lot more better though.
