we needed that new expressway ! would of made life so much easier ofr the people of north wales and the tourists! to have old people campaign over it wen no effence u wont be around wot more than anuva 20 years its us youngsters who are gonna be in 20 years time and still have that crummy a55 ! its our future not yours ,its hardly a scenic view in anstons hills .i didnt see any difference u already have the expressway going threw u .
I am a "tourist" and I wouldn't visit a country because of a motorway. I'd rather ride a donkey. I can understand that you don't want to ride donkeys on crummy roads but - people from all over the world visit wales because of the nature. This landscape is a treasure, don't destroy it.
Well done. When I was visiting Wales recently I heard about the victory at Aston Hill - & from another recent comment I gather you've all succeeded in preventing the expansion of the expressway :)
if you build the motorway the whole of Gogledd Cymru will turn into a commuter zone for those working in England. property prices will skyrocket & it will Kill the local culture etc
If what I heard on the news today is true [28 feb '08] then CONGRATULATIONS!!! It's been scrapped- no motorway thank God. Looks like independant [and sensible] research showed it would be nothong but harmful, as we always knew.
I live litreally 300 yards from where this was mainly shot. The Motorway Is Goin 2 Go ahead No Matter How Much Anyone Protests. Evryone Is Wastin Their Time Tbh. This VideoMust ov been shot on christmas day or summit. it does need expanding. No Point Protesting. Its Going To Go Ahead, Lets Face It!
I know you're making a serious point and I applaude you for that, but I'd just love to hear Elton John say "Hers a song about the A435 Kidderminster bypass" Sorry. I hope your campaign is a success.
This scheme is not co-incidental.The intended use of Cymru for expanded living space would require serving by roads with massive capacity. It isn't for increased commerce, it's for a huge increase in use of private cars which will occur if the Local Development Plans go ahead. Lose this one and we lose everything we cherish about our area.
The vast majority of new build houses that the council's plan will not house local people. They will be for massive numbers of incomers who will commute to jobs they already hold outside the area. Result= more pollution, more strain on already overstretched health services, loss of environment and further destruction of the very nature of our our homeland. It won't bring in money, unless you're the council [more council tax collected] or a developer.
Better quality of life? I've lived in North Wales ALL of my life. Throughout it i've seen massive 'development' taking place, very little of which has been for the needs of local people. This scheme is to serve the turning of Gogledd Cymru into a commuter dormitory for the North West. It WON'T benefit local people, just wreck our environment even more and line the developers pockets.
better roads means more money to the area. means a better quality of life. what would you rather 2 extra lanes or sit in a traffic coz there to much cars for the presant 4 lanes
'I'm inferior, those inferior we need to check the interior of the system who cares about only one culture, and that is why we have got to take the POWER BACK!
This is not for the welsh its for blinking commerce to flow into the gullets of england. I feel sorry for england beautiful land spoiled by motorways and sprawl. They are trying to destroy flintshire, keep out Brown!
So very true. Outstanding thoughts and opinions. Cracking song and video. There has to be an new answer to the problems on roads, WHAT IS IT? Yet we need them. Well done to the maker of this video and song. 100% Outstanding...
Spot on! What a lot of people don't know about are the 'local development plans' being drawn-up by the councils in N.Wales. They plan to build thousands of new houses along the A55 and bring in 20,000+ commuters in the next 10 yrs or so!
Ddim ond i'r Werddon gael symud popeth yn ol ac ymlaen i Ewrop. Cadwch Gymru yn gyfail! Cymru am byth. (A dyma fi, yn buw yn Seland Newydd ac Awstralia am dros 25 mlwyddyn, ond hiraeth mawr am Sir Fon a Gogledd Cymru). Emyr
Great song and video but the truth is we do need it, our retired friend obviously doesn't have to spend 2 hours crawling 5 miles to work for a Sunday night shift or the same coming home from a day shift on a Friday evening. Tourists are both the bane and the lifeblood of Wales and this road is about keeping them happy so they come back next year, it's not really about the trucks.
Great song, your so right. Though it seems you have an uphill struggle, the people we put in power always know best. Good luck, we'll try and learn the song!
Llongyfarchiadau. I wasn't even aware of this silly project. What we need (as any sensible country does) is infrastructure to unite our country i.e. railway north-south, south-north.
I just read yodepal's post and he's on target with the notion that it's the contractors that get their way.
It's the same thing here. We have a new 4 laner with bridge and instead of a simple T intersection, it's a complex of ramps - it takes an extra half mile of travel to get to the old places. We were down in Newport in 1988 (if memory serves :) and enjoyed our short visit. If we'd stayed 2 days, we'd become experts upon Wales :) Good luck
my nana lived in Northop Hall I haven't been back since the seventies. I don't think I would recognise the place now. All that beautiful countryside gone
Totally Brilliant protest song and I live in South Wales so completely empathise with you definately do not need an 11 lane motorway in North Wales its ridiculous good luck hope you win
Well Mid and North Wales are fairly inacessible from Cardiff. Lack of decent roads tends to divide Wales into North and South, Some people might want to keep the Taffs and Welsh language nutters out of Cardiff LOL. But it isn't a good thing if it's supposed to be one nation. Enjoyed the song and video though :)
Nice one, my friend!!! Great new workings to an old skiffle song. The government who seem so committed to environmental issues in public seem to conveniently forget their rantings when making decisions like this by-pass.
Keep up the good work. Lets preserve our heritage hear in North Wales!!!!
wonderful music to a serious subject,i hope it makes it to the top of the hit parade.a similar situation recently in scotland where a town counciller just happened to be a former manager for caterpiller tractor company for 20 + years.this counciller approved construction of a similar highway in scotland.Hmmm ... his loyalty is not to the people but to the stock portfolio of his former employer.

Top win boyos! How the hell did you get the Welsh Assembly to listen to the people of North Wales?
Important precedent, I think.
