@NickolasV8 Because he was part of the SS, u must of not seen the series, its from part 5 CrossRoads and at that part of the ovie Winters was only a Liutenant. But they were in a ditch, if the Germans figured that out, they could have surrounded his squad and killed them. So he went first ahead of his men and thats the first guy he saw and he shot him. I've seen this show a million times, he had to... its called war :/
