  • Theme to saving grace by everlast very moving with the recent tragedy at reno

  • Everlast?

  • I can't place the music who is the group?nickelback?

  • The transitions from video to still pictures is irritating at best. Totally ruins the flow. The music takes away from what viewers really want, to hear that lovely radial roar.

  • Thanks, Karen! :)

  • man I think these planes could probably go like 200 mph easy

  • @cantroos (I don't know if your serious) I have been to these races many times including this year...I'm not familiar with this particular plane but the fastest of them can exceed 500 mph.

  • @bfgray no way, that's faster than the speed of sound, so the whole plane would just shatter into one hundred and five pieces.

  • @cantroos Your joking right? Otherwise start listening. The speed of sound depends on the density of the air so it varies a little with the weather and drops off with altitude. At sea level it is aprox. 760mph, at the airliner crusing alt. it is about 660mph. At Reno mach 1 would be over 740mph. At Reno the fatest prop planes do laps about 500mph. Airliners cruise about 0.7 to 0.85 mach--600mph plus or minus. (None break mach 1 except the Concord which is now a museum pc.)

  • @bfgray well what if say the guy just put his foot all the way down and just held the accelator on full as long as he could, do you think maybe a jet plane like a 737 would break the sound barrier? Or maybe if he did that while diving really sharply. Like going from 40 000 feet to 10 000 with the throttle full power.

  • @cantroos The transision from sub to super sonic is very difficult and requires a much different shape aircraft. (Hence Concord looks diff then a 737) It also requires far more power. In level flight the 737 cannot come close. There was an incident over the greatlakes (long time ago) where a 727 went into a near vertical dive and super sonic--they barely managed to save it by dropping the landing gear--slowing it down enough to pull out at some 5k alt. The plane was scrapped.

  • @sanfranciscobay Actually.. I have no idea.. I think I copy/pasted that crap from Wikipedia or some such thing ;) I doubt from roll of the wheels.. I am guessing straight and level at HIGH speed then pull up.. I cant see it doing 6000ft/min from a standing start.

  • Where i can buy one those planes for me? Better i will build my own on cad... so amazing!

  • Lucky bastard.....helmet off to you.....

  • Why the music? I want to hear the sounds from the engine. If I wanted to hear music, I'd plug in my iPod.

  • HALELUYA ! Good Save America to continue giving us such masterpieces of flying objects ! HALELUYA !

  • that cockpit looks like a VERY tight fit...that could not be very comfortable on long races/missions.

  • Haha, you should try a modern glider :). That's what I fly (can't wear caps with buttons on top, or you risk breaking the canopy if you bounce around), and this cockpit looks like a ballroom in comparison!

  • at 479 pounds, my girth prevents such activities.

  • Sad that all german planes of that time were nearly all destroyed! Would love to see a long nose Focke Wulf racing!

  • anyone know how the bearcat compares to the hellcat???

  • I think it pretty much leaves it in the dust

  • in speed, but what about climb and turns?

  • Compared to its predecessor, the Bearcat was 20% lighter, had a 30% better rate of climb and was 50 mph (80 km/h) faster. In comparison with the Vought F4U Corsair, the initial Bearcat (F8F-1) was marginally slower but was more maneuverable and climbed more quickly.

    As for turning..... not sure.

  • An unmodified production F8F-1 set a 1946 time-to-climb record (after a run of 115 ft/35 m) of 10,000 ft (3,048 m) in 94 seconds (6,383 fpm). The Bearcat held this record for ten years until it was broken by a modern jet fighter (which could still not match the Bearcat's short takeoff distance).

  • Comment removed

  • It held the time to climb record to 30,000ft well into the '60's. It took an F-4 to beat it. It could out climb, out turn and out run any of the WW11 fighters. It has been said when LeRoy Grumman designed the F-8-f he tooked the R2800, bolted some instruments to it then economized on the aluminum.

  • please never take this video down. Awesome.

  • F8F is an old favorite of mine. Nice vid. Good music too

  • The Cats, Top notch, Grumman Knows how to make a War bird... better than russki trash.

  • Just wait till the Yak-9 gets back in the mix. We've got a few new surprises for ya.

  • Thanks Cowboy, the Yak-9 IS a nice bird, maybe there best. I'm a Navy maintainer, and have a love for the Cats. I like to belive the U.S. has the better plane. I worked on the flight deck of carriers for many years. You can't put a Jolly Rodger on a Yak or P-51 and make it win or land. Love to see the Yak. Thanks, Salutations, Planker.

  • why is it that people cannot enjoy their favorite planes without insulting the ones from other countries?

  • Sorry, we should enjoy our favorites. Memories... Russia has made great steps in the Airborne and Aerospace technology. I am sorry for the "Russki" comment. Fair winds and following seas.

  • I gotta agree with you.

  • My Dad was a test pilot for the F-8 .C.A.G.-Fighting 19 ,F-8 Bearcat # 44 Still have his G-suit and desktop F-8 model.Great video !! ,Mark

  • inspiring. I can feel my adrenaline pumping when he's flying low just by watching this. amazing.

  • Great video, everything goes together perfect.

  • Mate, Awesome vid and pics. Love it

  • Wonderful video. Thanks for posting, I watched it at least 10 times. Each time was a thrill for an old pilot like myself. I think I could feel each bump, shake, and wiggle.

  • hey, does anyone know the name of the song and the interpreter´s name?

  • Everlast...Saving Grace...its on youtube too. Enjoy

  • Thanks Phil...I will remember forever, its now my favourite video

    Much love

  • Much as I like the engine 'music', in this instance I think it's been put together very well and the song suits the mood. Great photography at 450+mph at 100 - 200feet off the deck - awesome flying and incredibly skillful. One wonders just what this incredible fighter would've done to the Japs had it come into service in the Pacific before the war ended? Along with the Hawker Sea Fury one of the finest piston engined fighers ever built. Neil Amstrongs favourite - tells you all you need to know.

  • I think I saw a couple coyotes duck below him :)

  • u were in it sick

  • fuck the song :(, u shud of let the engine be the soundtrack :) wilko

  • kick ass vid rip to gary hubler 95 stay safe

  • Come to the Reno National Champion Air Races!

  • Very nicely put together video.

  • Well done, keep them coming!

  • Superb video! Great music choice, too. It suits flying this legendary machine, perfectly.
