@PhillyB702 Busoni actually rewrote that section to make it so you don't have to do octave glissandi if I'm not mistaken... Octave glissandi are PAINFUL and HARD!!! :)
This is pure musical magic. And from a 14 year old! I am most impressed with the extremely difficult stretta section from 7:11 to 7:48. Most performers muddy it up and/or give out by the end but she plays articulates each note and stays strong and in tempo to the end of the section. Truly amazing.
I have heard Aimi play this particular movement before. However, this performance tops the previous youtube rendition in beauty of sound, technical execution and interpretation. I must make the candid confession that I have never heard a prodigy of her age with this kind of miraculous interpretative ability - far surpassing many of the greatest pianists of the age. If it were not for jealously among them, she could be counted as one of the icons of her day. Age is only a number with Aimi.
@concerto35 Thank you for the comment, Francis. Coming from someone of your ability and achievements it carries a special weight. I also think this performance of the 3rd movement was better than the New York performance in 2008. But I can't decide between this Oct 2009 performance and the CD version, which was recorded only days after the NY recital! We were so pleased that Aimi chose to play the sonata at Nagoya.
@romillyh : Yes, as I said before, age is just another number with Aimi. I read where she won the Gold in the Chopin International Piano Competition. The concerto category that she entered has no age limits.
She is reputed to be the yougest winner ever in the history of this competition!! Congratulations to Aimi and all the best for a glorious future.
@concerto35 I totally agree with your analysis of our Princess Aimi, which for me, and really an icon in our new generation of performers. I could say that Aimi kobayashi is magical, his musicality and his entire personality brings an extreme emotion in his fabulous interpretations. Hopefully it will continue to move us in the future as it has already done.
The best Waldstein on Youtube. Miss Aimi is a genius whose talent is the kind that leaves shivers up and down your spine. She is truly my favorite young pianist. If she is playing this well at age 14, I am very much looking forward to how she will play in ten years.
I watched her earlier rendition of this manificent piece of music and didn't think it was possible that she would do it better, but this video has proved me wrong. Aimi is definitely in a league of her own; her musicianship and professionalism comes so naturally with her natural talents and sophisticated interpretation. She is by far my most favourite pianist, and to be able to watch her progressed closely since she was very young is like seeing history in the making.
Thank you again Romilly for providing this astonishing Aimi performance. Our (the world's now) Aimi is certainly one of a kind, and I personally believe she is probably the greatest junior pianist of this age. She doesn't simply play music she is the music. Unquestionably a musical genius...
Here is a wonderful interpretation, the performance of our princess Aimi Kobayshi Who shows us how music permeates the essence of his whole being. This young pianist, is remarkable musical sensibility. In this interpretation are gestural watches how the notes promises surprises galore throughout its entire being,
which gives both high sensitivity and emotion. We would like to have the privilege of seeing Aimi Kobayshi in our beautiful city of Paris?. are public would surely be delighted.
This is my favorite piano sonata and it gives me energy, in addition, her performance made me very moving. I also want to play like her.

she doesn't do the octave glissando in the final coda?
utubuser10 5 months ago
@utubuser10 Most people just hold the chord with the pedal and play it with 2 hands, it's somewhat cheating but it is effective.
