All of these are better on MW3. MW4 has better backgrounds and better variety of missions, but it can't beat MW3 in making you feel that you are piloting a few tens of tons of metal and weapons.
I still enjoy playing this game. Played years back and completed it. Someone told me that Dominic Paine is voiced by "Commisoner Gordon" of Batman Begins. Anyway, I recently started over after I lost my saved games following a computer crash. It's still fun and challenging. I found MW-4 a bit disappointing and have not looked at any other MW games since.
I agree, MW 3 was the pinnacle of the mechwarrior franchise, at least to date. MW4 Mercs seemed like a letdown to this amount immersion. I wonder why they went from decent to garbage from MW3 to MW4. thoughts?
The biggest problem with MW3 was that it didn't map hardpoints properly, so you could get silly combos of weapons, my elemental with 4 medium lasers was a testament to that.
The graphics in MW4 were superior at higher settings though.
Dunno how familiar with the battletech universe you are, but there are several different time periods that the game can be set in, MW5 just happens to be 3015, one of the better ones, heck they could have dumped you in the middle of "dark ages" and left us with urban mechs as "superior technology" and agricultural mechs as the standard.
Its not a reboot, the time-lines are solid and documented, they make sure events in the games never contradicted the main story events.
The producers have stated it's a reboot of the video game series, not the actual whole battletech universe. Draelren is right, Jordan Weisman has said so himself. However, it's actually just called Mechwarrior, not Mechwarrior 5, further proof it is a reboot.
A "reboot" usually means they are changing the plot, kinda like what they do with every second star trek movie or tv series. (or like what games workshop do every release with chaos history)
From what the producers are saying, and from what you yourself said, they are not changing the plot, merely letting you jump back into the cockpit at a different point in time.
Regardless of what you call it, it looks good.
"Mechwarrior" for me will always be the CGA graphics game on my 286 :)
I loved those hammer pounding footstep sounds of heavy mech. They were awesome in mechwarroir 3. But not in mech4. U could tear the legs apart in mech3, which was usually basic/fast way of combat to destroy an enemy mech
Man i love MechWarrior 3. I used to play it as a child, it really made my childhood. Dude, i feel so bad that the MechWarrior series are over. The best Mech game EVER!
Well, some great series are infinite, others have an end... Well, at least there is Battlefield 2142, but MechWarrior will still be the best in my opinion.

This was the very first online game I started playing. MW4 sucked so bad I miss MW3 so much. I wish they would make MW5 to be alot more like MW3 but I guess that will never happen.

Shitty game, the weapons didn't felt like something that is a big as a house. Eartsiege 2 did this much better, unloading your plasma cannon on a Herc and seeing it blow one of it's legs straigt off was awesome. Not to mention the sound that made your desk tremble.
holy crap dude, I was thinking the exact same thing. MW3 looks, and feels more realistic (as realistic as any giant robot of destruction game can be) than MW4. 4 felt more like I was playing with claymation models than 100 ton war machines.
If they took the lighting, sounds, textures, and graphics from mech 3 and mechassault, the music tracks from the MW 2 games, and the gameplay from the mech 4 games, they would FINALLY have the MW 5 game that I HOPE someone (not Microsoft) will make. But....I'm not getting my hopes up :-(
Unfortunately, the deal made between FASA, Wizkids, and Micrzopht puts it into their domain. I'm sorry, but you'll have to write a pirate-game to give as freeware with all the features you want!
Oh, and if you can make it compatable with Battle Field 2, we'd appreciate it! :D
For MW3 the focus was on realism, it may not have all the polygons and flash of the newer games, but it still "feels" more like a mech game than anything else I've played.

I agree. mech 4 was fun but mech 3 FELT like you were driving a 100 ton machine. They took a bit to accelerate and when you took a turn at speed it was a slow turn.

Animation is way better due to realtime IK, and realistic weight transfer. No other giant robot game as ever come close to the realistic "feel" of Zipper's Mechwarrior!

Technically it's not MW5, it's a prequel taking place even 35 years before the clans invaded. It's basically a reboot of the whole line of games.

he suck at aiming with the AC-10
he don't try to shoot the Mech with LRM-5 first
he use only once the coolant système
and he consider the Antenna more "dangerous" than the missiles turret.
