I would like to clear something up here. First of all black screens use the same amount of energy as white screens. Darker vs. light has nothing to do with energy consumption because this is only the contrast ration for the color. The only thing that takes up the most power on a monitor is the back lite, which can be controlled through your monitor's preferences know as brightness. Brightness is the thing that is causing a lot of energy consumption, not the contrast ratio of white to black.

A LCD Monitor actually needs MORE energy for black than for white color, because LCD's got a white background light (FL or LED) that's always on (except when you turn your monitor off or it goes to 'power save' mode, of course), and the liquid crystals need power to "block" the light.

TFT-TN LCD panels uses more energy to display a black screen than to display a white one! And CRTs are becoming less and less used in the whole world so this idea of using black backgrounds will become useless. It is already useless for LCDs.

the search results are the same but you won't get the pop downs to see what I mean just google your city's weather (mine is Memphis so I type: Memphis Weather. You should get an automatic 5 day forecast. These automatic features will not show up on neroogle so it's not exactly the same but the energy you save is probably worth not having automatic results
