  • So where are the Kenyans ?

  • No wonder he beat Lance in Panama!

  • Now just after 70.3 Panama, what about the below comments saying LA can't be competitive?

  • I'm not a runner at all, but this is one of the most motivating videos i have ever seen. KIWI POWER!

  • Fantastic sprint! Epic to watch!

  • to me its all about timing..gotta attack at the right moment not to early and not to late

  • if i entered a amy triathlon could i do it without wearing the outfit

  • It's a pitty Hunter didn't win this one.

  • omg that whas somthing

  • That young guy in the blue had it coming. Over confidence in his kick was his demise. A lesson well learned.

  • @Brandonlcosta What?! Lol, did you see him looking over his shoulder every 2 seconds? He knew that guy was comin for him and they were both giving it all they had. It's not like he just expected his kick was good enough. He saw the guy coming up behind him but he couldn't go any faster.

  • paused at 1:11. Holy shit

  • oh my God... amazing!!!!!

  • ah the good ol' days before the brownlee brothers

  • @Maccaism Ain't it the truth! Nothing's the same since those British blokes blew the whole sport apart. But it will eventually catch up with them... maybe.

  • @milesian1 your right someone raises the bar the rest lift there game too , that mexican chap is quite good too

  • @milesian1 The scary part is that as the Brownlee brothers get older, they will just move up into longer distance stuff and crush those races. They really are the future of triathlon.

  • haha kicked too early

  • damn sucks, he just took it from him LOL!

  • Oh shit, 8 mile!!!

  • im surprised there arnt more views for this video, it must be one of the best finishes on the internet!

  • Comment removed

  • That's how I finish

  • Last guy made a stealth-ninja-sprint-attack.. !

  • Triathlons are the best sport ever. Ive done them since I was six and have gone to USAT and Ironkids championships each year. I have yet to consider quitting which would be an impossible task for me to do.

  • pissed me off I couldn't hear the commentary

  • Jayzus he was like the t1000 from terminator passing catching him. Unreal!!

  • Thumbs up if you have a race tomorrow morning...

  • Chill every time I watch this

  • This is an awesome video, very inspiring. The kicks at the end by both those guys were amazing, everyone else looked like they were standing still. Thanks for posting this, I will watch it the night before my next triathlon.

  • great incentive to try hard

  • Eh hes really fast but I personally think that Gemmel could have won it if he'd had better tactics. His technique is amazing, an inspirational performance after so much distance completed. Docherty just obviously wanted it more.

  • The music goes well with the video.

  • Whats the song?

  • @lamarpi314 Lose Yourself by Eminem

  • ахуеть!

  • wow

  • What the quote at the end should have read:

"The difference between really extraordinary, and extraordinarily fucking extraordinary, is that little extra."

  • EPO wins! Good job!

  • now at the end of everyrace I remember this and push myself till the end

  • OMG! so I´ll try to push my training little bit harder... me he he

  • wow awesome kick for both of them.

  • There is no miracle, it is just you!

  • @jmoss70 thanks for explaining the concept. if

  • assume concept dezine'

  • @gpwell Isn't that like saying I can't get into the tour de france... it seem like the athletes are jacks of all trades and master of none. In the tour your trades consist of being good in many different disciplines being a good (sprinter, endurance athlete, mountain stage specialist, time trial, tactician specialist...) the winner is the one who can put all these disciplines together - not so much different then in a triathlon.

  • @darrenlachel1 if u mean what I think you mean, then i guess id have to agree that one could certainly make that argument. Although climbers always win the yellow jersey in tdf. I think personally, as a spectator I just like to see the extremes of human accomplishment in each discipline. I dint mean to offend anyone... also gotta admit there is something to be said about a sport where not everyone is doping ;) So, advantage tiathalon

  • @darrenlachel1 or who can take the most steroids

  • @gpwell

They sprinted at the end because they had to. The level in the sport is so high now there are athletes running sub-30 10Ks after swimming 1500m in national-class time and cycling 40K in under an hour. And saying you can't get into triathlons tells nothing about the sport and more about you. If you don't like it, fine. Happy trails.

  • @milesian1 um ok. happy trails to you too

  • @milesian1 i agree dude...I am doing an olympic distance triathlon this sunday and i know i wont have anything like this left at the end of that 10k...these athletes are just amazing

  • @milesian1 However, the bike leg has become a rest and recover and warm-up (blood flow through the legs) at this distance. The bike leg is in variably flat and the 30 minute 10k runners are tucked in and (smartly) never lead. They are super athletes, indeed , but they are also fairly rested up at the start of the run.

  • @innismor11 Have you been paying attention to ITU races lately? The Brownlee brothers have made cycling relevant again. Yes, Alistair is a fantastic runner, and could win a lot of races from a bunch run start, but in some races they simply ride away and stay away. A couple years ago the athletes could get away with 200K/wk. of bike training; now they're back up to 500K just to stay in the same bike pack.

  • @milesian1 An exception doesn't make a rule. Those two are certainly exceptions. There aren't many (any?) others. There'll be those that try to get away on the bike leg, there always have been, since the distance went draft-legal, but successes all the way to the finish line are rare, and 30 minute 10K's for them even more so. The ITU races don't have domestiques; I expect London will be pretty crowded with them (amongst the serious contenders). We'll see next summer.

  • @gpwell Jacks???? oh boy... 30-31 min 10k at the run ... 17-18 min 1500 meter open water swim ... sub 1hr 40 k on the bike (draft or non draft)

people love to critic, and don't even realize how crazy pros are... I would love to see any master of one of the sports beat the jacks of all trades :)

  • @gpwell They're called masters of triathlon. Masters of combining three sports and finishing each as fast as possible for an overall time in a three sport race. If you could handle triathlon you'd get what I'm saying.

  • @gpwell you gotta do it to get it

  • @gpwell You're a fucking idiot mate. Why dont you go do a triathlon and maybe then youll realise just how incredible these guys are.

  • @joshisthebest45 ive completed without any training aside from my gym and cycling routine. They are good exercise for sure, but not the same extreme as focusing on one discipline in particular. Tris are full of weekend warrior yahoos. 99 percent of the athletes don't know how to swim, run, or ride a bike fast. Again, its a great sport that is all about moderation of efforts

  • @gpwell well arent you amazing, we arent talking about the 99% of weekend yahoo's-which is an incidently incorrect figure- we are talking about two of the best guys in the world. You do realise that these guys are running sub 30min 10km runs off the bike, the top runners run barely faster then that fresh.

  • @gpwell I will agree that a good amount have a weakness, but I'm sure they can do at least one of the 3 sports fast. It also depends on your definition of fast.

  • @gpwell You are dead wrong. Cyclist are fantastic, but they can only bike. World class triathletes are exceptional at land, sea, and bike. They are the ultimate athletes. You're beloved Lance Armstrong is too chicken to even show up at the Ironman World Championships in Kona every year even though he has been repeatedly quoted that he is going to participate.

  • @cicirunner Lance has always liked to talk the talk. You can't take everything he says seriously. I certainly never expected him to ever show (seriously) at Kona. He was never a good runner, even in his (young) tri days. Last year he had a tough time breaking 3 hours in a road marathon he trained for. But even Lance agrees the Tour guys couldn't touch the Ironman cyclist after a swim effort; and vice versa on a straight up time trial. 2 different beasts.

  • @innismor11 Well Lance did run like a 2:47 in NY.

  • @cicirunner Lance trained his butt off for a year to shave that 13 minutes (only), and at age 36 (4 years ago) It's likely when he decided he was never going to be a competitive Ironman. Craig Alexander (age 38) did 2:44 at Ironman this year on his way to a third win. After the swim and bike (no drafting) 25.5 mph for 4.5 hrs, and all in searing 90 degree lava field heat. NYC in November is nice and cool. Nah, Lance realized he hadn't a hope in hell of being competitive. 2:47 is pfft

  • @innismor11 You make good points. I guess Lance can't compete with the pros. From a general perspective though, I think 2:47 is really good. Running is my best sport and I could probably only run low 2:50's.

  • @cicirunner Hey, sub-3 is good. nothing to sneeze at. As you know it is not world class, including 2:47. Alexander et al would run 2:22 to 2:26 at NYC (still not world class), but a good 20-25 minutes faster than Lance did. You put them in an Ironman marathon and the gap to Lance would be 30- 40 minutes there, at least; more if he hammered the bike at all (and that would only get him 10-15 minutes max on Alexander et al). He thinks / wishes aloud at times, and he shouldn't.

  • I disagree with the quote at the end.

"The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra effort."

There is nothing little about the efforts these pros. put in to be extraordinary. The point to which these athletes push themselves is unbelievable, only a few can handle it.

Sorry to be criticle of this amazing video, it pumps me up before big races.

  • @darrenlachel1 Glad the video pumps you up before races.

What's extraordinary is the day to day commitment of top athletes. That's where the real extra effort is spent, like on watching everything that one ingests, getting extra sleep, getting up to go to the pool nearly every morning when it's still dark out... and maintaining that commitment day after day for years.

  • its funny how both are superhuman athletes and both are kiwi....it makes you so proud to be a kiwi...to think that people of that calliber come from such a small population

  • AMAZING!

Push replay and count how many times Gemmel turns around...

  • I love the sound track ... suits the video well - thanks for posting.

  • HAULING!!!!!!!!

  • incredible finish ¡¡¡

  • incredible finish

  • christ...

  • good job to the blue guy he really pushed them, even if he got 2nd. I was really cheering for him because the msuci was like..focusing on him though xD

  • oh there goes gravity-oh there goes docherty

  • does someone knows why the guy who does the 1st sprint slaps the hand of one of the runners?

  • @Hobofobico becauze the guy that did the first sprint is a doush bag.

  • where did he come from?!?! i wanted the guy in the blue to win!!

  • @Snipza The song is old, extremely overplayed in cliche "inspirational videos", and most annoyingly: Covers up what would have been very interesting and inspiring commentary by the telecasters. You seem to (incorrectly) assume a lot about my perception of rap music. The fact is, the music destroys a large chunk of the value the clip may have originally possessed.

  • how many kilometers did they run?

  • @karlauzter09 it's probabily an olympic distance triathlon. So the distances were: 1500m swim, 40km bike and 10km run

  • Usain Bolt!?!

  • Looks like the clip was probably awesome and inspiring. The music, on the other hand, kills the whole clip.

  • @RiskyMethodz you don't listen to the lyrics... you just hear rap and automatically think it's shit. Eminem is real rap... the other stuff you associate it with is crap.

  • That is AWESOME!! I hope some day I can sprint to the finish line like that! Thanks for sharing :)

  • None of them should of had that much left at the end

  • @egrabbott that's the point. They're probably dead and they still have the motivation to kick it at the end.

  • This is the best racing video I have ever seen. Sends shivers down my spine.

  • those tights look like they squish eggs

  • Kinda sucks to see such a sprint and in the end not wining first place! No one will remember second place !

  • Once you look back in a race, you're done for.

  • @metsrule107 say that to Kenenisa Bekele :D:D:D:D:

  • DOCHERTY RULES. such a strong all-rounder

  • like a machine :) ... i love that video!

  • amazing..love the quote =)

  • simply amazing

  • dam thought gemmell would win that race

  • hey darthbasket100, anyone could have dropped these two, but no one did. they came first and second and everyone had the opportunity to beat them and no one did. so take your stupid comments somewhere else before someone spikes your fu..en protein shake

  • Wooow! I watch this over and over and over! it is just freaking amazing, really Bevan did want it badly!! - Inspiring!

  • That's why you should never look back

  • NZ first and second

  • fuck yeah new zealand. showing the world what we can do!

  • Amazing.

  • Thats so great...ILOVETRIATHLON.

  • soooo goooood

  • Gotta give credit to gimmel at this stage of the race you're usually very fatigue and you have to do what seems to be right to you to win the race wouldnt say its a mistakes by gimmel because is putting alot of pressure on docherty who had give his a++ game i mean docherty not doing this sprint gimmel is winning lets say gimmel win this thing this break away would turn out to be a great move great move on both side

  • doherty = agent smith (:

  • amaziiiing...i dont know wht to say :P

  • I actually thought Docherty was the guy in blue for the first minute i was watching the video

  • ahahahahaha what a kick. he hawked the shit out of him. cant wait till i do my firt iron man competition. what distance triathlon was this?

  • this was: 1500m swimming - 40km cycling - 10km running ----> the olyimpic distance ;o

  • olympic i think

  • where the hell did he come from.. i didnt even see him.. dam

  • great race and love to watch.

  • incredible!

  • ¡¡¡INCREIBLE!!!

    WHERE IS THE LIMIT???????

    I love Ironman

  • this is not an ironman

  • this is amazing im 15 and i do triathlons im going to try to get to an elite level and i will be the youngest in the long course triathlon that im going to do

  • @beavervalley1

    Nice man. Keep training.

  • I was there in the stands at the front and it was amazing! I thought Kris Gemmel was going to win, then Bevan Docherty came out of the blue. A couple weeks later I did my first triathlon.

  • That's a great story. Hopefuly it inspired you in that first triathlon and beyond. Thanks for sharing.

  • I bet Bevan Docherty never let their ex wives take their cars, cellphones, shoes or houses away, JS i l w.

  • im 15 years old and i do triathlon... and this is the best fuckin video ever it motivates me a lot before every race

  • Triathlon, and amazing sport :)!

  • haha that's what is all about!

    beautiful, inspiring!

  • buen sprint mejor si lo uviera ganado

  • that is crazy, i cant believe the energy they both had at the end of this thing! prob due to an Olympic distance

  • where was the race?

  • It's from the New Plymouth ITU World Cup in New Zealand.

  • watch this before every cross-country race, really helps those last 1000 meters

  • whoa! that was so unexpected lol!

  • My favourite clip on You Tube!! I watch it weekly for inspiration. Takes the meaning "digging deep" to a new level.

  • Sheer fucking Grit.

  • that was wicked! Gemmell has such a smooth running style, and docherty came from miles back! awesome vid!

  • Mustering that kind of strength at the end is an incomparable feeling of your own endurance and drive. It's simlply great to see.

  • that was amazing

  • what a finish. Go Kiwi

  • Sandbagger.

  • awesome , amazing

  • he smiled all the way thru the final!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Actually he was grinding his teeth in agony and pain haha :P!

  • holy shit.

  • amazing

  • best finish ever

  • wow...

  • wow very fast runners

  • It wasn't a matter of timing that lost it for Gemmel. He knew Docherty would get him in a two-up sprint. He went at the most viable opportunity for the win. He had to take a flyer from that far from the finish to have any chance at all. He's lucky he got second. Amazing tactics by both. It just panned out better for Docherty.

  • this is a great insparation!

  • Best Tri-Video so far... Unbelievable sprint from both Gemmel an Docherty. An Music fits perfect.

    I want to run! :D

  • kris gemmel

  • Does anyone know if the guy in the blue that docherty overtakes is from NZ as well? I know docherty is but is the guy in blue also..

  • yes he is

  • Comment removed

  • The finish to the 1991 World Championships on the Gold Coast was even better...

  • Where can i see this race ???

  • most amazing tri finish I've ever seen. Docherty does not panic. Give both credit for this Bevan just timed his kick right and blue dude went too soon...

  • whats the name of the music? is eminem]?

  • ye.

  • lose yourself by eminem

  • the better video i´ve watch !i´m junior triathlete elite and it give me power!

this leave me know nothing is impossible!

    incredible!

  • AMAZING! THx for posting this. God I never was that big into this song, but for tri- training's sake, I've learned to LOVE it.
