  • I'm all for engine swaps, but wouldn't it have been easier to find a Pinto body (or even a RWD Mazda, Toyota or Nissan truck)and swapped the 302 into something besides this?

  • I Love it !!. Nothing better than homemade fabrication, You have too much advance in your timing though. also find you some flowmasters and dump the tails to the ground. Oh ya find you another one for parts and cut the fenders off it and flair your car all the way around, then just add some 60's series (fatties) tires around that bad boy and let her rip !.

  • let me say it again for the late comers who think they know it all. this nr2 war going to the junk yard iit was hit at 50 mph by a flat bed truck. and the mr2 was parked. thus the rear1/4s where crushed tail lights and so on up to the gas cap motor moounts shered off strut rods snaped in half. and the motor had a blown head or craked block. was rusted out. and it cost me 30$ and i keep it from going to the scrao yard. morons from hell ill put my mr3 up against any mr2 have on the 1/4 mil

Putting a new carb setup on a still otherwise stock motor does not change the fact you have one of the most wheezy, low powered small block fords to ever come out short of the 80's era LTDs turd of a motor. Not to mention the hundreds of pounds of scrap iron you seem to have welded to the underside of the car to allow this turd to move and not fold like wet cardboard. You want to see it done right?   • ok morons this car was saved from a junk yard. it was ass ended at 65 MPH by a flat bed truck. and no its not a gimpy lil mr2 that can only run on the hi ways. its a light to light car now. morons its a 5.0 HO motor from a thunderbird. and a 5 speed. and yes it is way faster than my stock mr2. the vid is very very old. duel 4 bbls a full fram mustang front sus thunderbired ind rear sus. and a 5 speed .

  • I am all for a V8 swap, however.... You just lost the integrity of the car. It is FR layout now, and you failed to use the car for it's greatest potential... the fact it is an MR vehicle. If you can apply a V8 or even a good inline V6 behind so that it is still an MR vehicle... Now you are on to something.

  • Chop the bottom out of an mr2, sit it on a shortened S10 frame w/ v8 swap (I know its not a chevy motor, or even frame for that mattter, just an example)...

    Very simple to build, about as easy as it is to completely RUIN an Aw11. Congrats on that.

  • it was not connected at that time.the car was still being built at that time. it now has a 5 speed PS and hase been painted and the rad is in the back now,

  • I joined Youtube specifically so I could comment on this car: Now I know what NEVER, EVER to do if I have a ratted-out 1st-gen held together by rust, tape, and different color panels, and an old, low-compression, carbed-out anchor of an engine sitting under a shed in the backyard. Thanks for posting this car, because "swaps" like this make me feel like a genius as I look in from the outside!!

  • way to be a hater... the mr2 has a rear engine because its engine was paired with a FWD tranny, and the engine just happen to be in the rear. the only other way a V8 would work is if it was originally FWD... in ToyoStars case, from a Cadillac northstar. Its a great looking car... well its engine at least, it needs extra weight on the rear if your going to race it, drag or circuit.

  • What have you done to re-balance the handling or as I was alluding to in my above post; are you just shooting for straight line speed?

    Genuinely interested.

    I love the sound of a v8 and the extra power would be great but would I give up the neutral handling of my MR2 for increased straight line performance.

  • Honestly Not a Hater - great job on making it fit. I have an MR2. It's by a mile the best car I've ever owned. All I meant was the mid engined nature of the MR2 is what makes the car what it is. Midships Runabout 2-seater. It's handling characteristics are defined by the fact that the weight distribution is so central. Take the engine out the back and put a big v8 in the front and you've got to enter a world of crazy oversteer and massively reduced traction to put that power down.

    The stock mr2 handles great but im sure that is gonna change massively with the shift in weight F/R balance?
