It's always nice too see that att least there are some cities around the world that weren't stupid enought to take away their tramsystems.
I myself live in Gothenburg, Sweden; which like Melbourne is known to have a a extensive tram network so I see a some kind of a similarity between those two cities.
melbourne looks abit between western europe because the many cafes and style and the buildings reminds me of the old past rusia federation in the late 70's melbourne is wonderful. I just seen my hotel from this video.
Atleast some common sense has returned to Melbourne's western neighbour. As you will probably know, in Adelaide, we have given our fleet a badly needed modernisation (and so our average fleet age is no longer 78 years old! I am not kidding either). Soon our Glenelg line will be extended to beyond Adelaide Railway station. I am glad that Melbourne has kept it's system and is now the example by which others are judged. Thankyou for uploading this video.
Trams are the coolest. I live in Sydney where we have one lonely tram line. I always wish that Sydney didn't get rid of its tram network in the 60s, but the state government was all like "Oh, yes. Buses are much better for Sydney" which they are NOT and traffic was instantaneously made worse when Sydney got rid of its trams. So I envy all of you Melbournians with your superb tram network, you don't know how lucky you are!
Just returned from holiday in Melbourne and loved the trams there. One tiny disappointment though is that the classic W class trams on Route 78 and 79 & the City Circle now sport pantographs for power pick-up instead of the original elegant-looking trolley poles. However, I did notice a lot of overhead frogs and crossings at intersections are still trolley pole compatible. Wish Yarra trams could have some trolley poles back on Melbourne's streets, at least for the classic vintage ones. = )
@chase2187 By the way, should probably mention that Her Worship, the honourable, excellent, great and wonderful Clover Moore (Lord Mayor) is really gaining a lot of traction in bringing more lightrail routes and infrastructure back to Sydney and making it far less private care-dependent.
After roughly nine-hundred million feasibility studies, state fatcats are starting to genuinely warm up to light rail.
