  • how did you tune your tomes? i keep getting a little to much ring out of mine. got the same heads.

  • @curiousdwarf93 you want your toms to ring! let your drums breathe! if you are wondering why your drums dont sound thunderous its because they arent resonating and ringing!

  • @kikme778 thanks, i'll try it out.

  • Seriously... Who couldn't like this? It's got lots of chops, it's creative!

  • Russ Miller is a very pattern oriented player, it's really noticeable when you watch him play. It doesn't seem like he has a natural feel when he plays, it just sounds like a bunch of musical patterns glued together to be considered a solo.

  • @Waste0paper wow. just... wow. This is America and you are entitled to your opinions, but you realize that you are speaking in reference to a Grammy winning artist who has played with everyone and on everything. If he really is as you say I doubt his phone would keep ringing.

  • I was a student of Russ Miller's at Drum Design in Coral Springs, FL back in the late 80s til around 91. Amazing to see who and what he became.

  • sick

  • nice control, like the musicality, and goddam how did u afford those phx drums, jealos m8, check out my drum vids if u like, im 17

  • This solo reminds me of Steve Smith's 'Khanda West' solo.

  • Excellent!

  • great kit. what mics?

  • @drummer4life54 Russ Miller uses May drum and instrument mics. go to his website to learn more

  • what kind of kit is that?

  • @MrPearl123 Yamaha Phx

  • great exercise for independence

  • Beautiful love rythmic and melodious playing... total feel and control

  • perfect...

  • talk about musically playing the drums...

  • he eating good anit he russ miller has more styles under his belt than most drummers i still have his first vhs one of my fav drummers

  • the more weight he put on the better he got

  • he makes it look so easy! i wish....

  • man yamaha fills sound great

  • I have no idea why but, this really reminds me of Antonio Sanchez.

    Such a great solo!

  • i went to one of his demo things. hes kinda funny too and not a douche like other pros

  • Now that's a TASTEFUL SOLO.

  • ostinato master!

  • love it man, awesome!!!

  • steve smith stile....

  • batter and reso heads on the toms?

    they sound fantastic.

  • great sound....i wish I could make my snare purrrr like that with my rolls.....

  • @thegreatNEb Agreed, I think that's a Remo Fiberskyn 3 Diplomat batter head on the snare. I 've just ordered one for my vintage snare as it is quite close to a calf skin sound.

  • Exelent i laked Brother

  • whoa. Condenser mics for the toms. Awesome!!!

  • @drumfreke...... why do you say such things? as a musician we should respect what others bring to the table...thats what makes us different. Besides, I would like to see you play this solo....since it is soo "square"

  • good comment dude!! I can play the melody part with toms bass and snare but the whole solo is a real challenge.

    Peace

    John

  • @uprlvl - I agree, playing for 25+ years myself I can SAFELY say that this solo is not at all easy - that kick pattern alone, independantly played at the same time is something to behold - holy shit lol

Drop by and say hi !

    Robdrums69

  • Nice solo Russ !! Your PHX's sound great !! I'm dying to get me one of those PHX kit's from Yamaha !!

  • Who cares about the 18" kick. I saw Steve Hass do that before Weckl and Novack. This whole solo sounds very square to me. Kind of hokey dokey and rat tat tat ish. I like Russ on record, but not as a clinician.

  • extra 18" BD on right = Weckl

  • actully, it's a 16" BD. so it's not weckl

  • I saw Gary Novak doing it before Weckl. Does it matter?

  • He's unbelievable. My dad took me to see one of his sessions in PR when I was 11 or 12 years old. He's a cool guy

  • that was friggin awesome

  • Beech Customs all the way!

    Hehe

  • But Russ is a GREAT drummer.. R.E.S.P.E.C.T !

  • dude i can get this sound out of my fucking rydeens this set is overated big time

  • Yep... these drums are good, but not worth their price in ANY way.

    Price tag is ridiculous!

  • Yamaha doesnt make crap, everything they touch is supposed to last :) do i play yamaha ? yes of course :)

  • i have to admit, this kit isn't tuned to its full potential here. I personally believe most drums are overated but, believe me, i have heard this kit from 10 feet away. Trust me, its awesome!

  • I have a Rydeen and it sounds like dick. You are obviously playing Sonors...

  • No I'm pretty sure it's Yamaha. Look at the lugs and the hardware. Definitely not Sonor.

  • Russ endorses Yamaha drums. The kit sounds nice.

  • O_o very nice!!!

  • these must be the best drums available!!!!

  • Yamaha PHX drumkit (with converted 16'' aux bass)

    Yahaha PHX snaredrum (custom made)

Yamaha Hardware (with the new HS1200D hihat stand, Doube pedals etc)

    NICE!

  • what sizes are his toms?

  • Russ is putting on some wait, huh ??

  • He probably has also a great taste for food

  • Not impressed with the drum sound. My Oak Yamahas were like $1300 - you don't have to spend 5 grand for the best sound.

  • You dont get this sound of oak's

I have custom oaks myself and they don't sound like this.

This is worth the money for shure.

  • I love this guy's works, especially in his jazz fusion house bands. This certainly has alot of Steve Smith influence but really shows off the kits unique sound perfectly.

  • Damn, that's what I call drumming. Impressive skill, impressive kit, and some drum dealer's economic stimulus package.

  • It seems that this "Moeller ostinato" type of soloing motif is starting to become quite hip. JoJo does it, Steve Smith does it. And now Russ does it, quite nicely even!

  • Very, very nice! What a monster.

  • BTW - I love the black chrome! Hope Yamaha adds that as an option...

  • Seriously musical, nice to see someone play "music" on the drums and not just "Go-Off". The kit sounds sick!

  • Russ the drums sound super thick man....Love the kit.
