@curiousdwarf93 you want your toms to ring! let your drums breathe! if you are wondering why your drums dont sound thunderous its because they arent resonating and ringing!
Russ Miller is a very pattern oriented player, it's really noticeable when you watch him play. It doesn't seem like he has a natural feel when he plays, it just sounds like a bunch of musical patterns glued together to be considered a solo.
@Waste0paper wow. just... wow. This is America and you are entitled to your opinions, but you realize that you are speaking in reference to a Grammy winning artist who has played with everyone and on everything. If he really is as you say I doubt his phone would keep ringing.
@thegreatNEb Agreed, I think that's a Remo Fiberskyn 3 Diplomat batter head on the snare. I 've just ordered one for my vintage snare as it is quite close to a calf skin sound.
@drumfreke...... why do you say such things? as a musician we should respect what others bring to the table...thats what makes us different. Besides, I would like to see you play this solo....since it is soo "square"
@uprlvl - I agree, playing for 25+ years myself I can SAFELY say that this solo is not at all easy - that kick pattern alone, independantly played at the same time is something to behold - holy shit lol
Who cares about the 18" kick. I saw Steve Hass do that before Weckl and Novack. This whole solo sounds very square to me. Kind of hokey dokey and rat tat tat ish. I like Russ on record, but not as a clinician.
i have to admit, this kit isn't tuned to its full potential here. I personally believe most drums are overated but, believe me, i have heard this kit from 10 feet away. Trust me, its awesome!
I love this guy's works, especially in his jazz fusion house bands. This certainly has alot of Steve Smith influence but really shows off the kits unique sound perfectly.
It seems that this "Moeller ostinato" type of soloing motif is starting to become quite hip. JoJo does it, Steve Smith does it. And now Russ does it, quite nicely even!
excellent

Yep... these drums are good, but not worth their price in ANY way.

No I'm pretty sure it's Yamaha. Look at the lugs and the hardware. Definitely not Sonor.

Not impressed with the drum sound. My Oak Yamahas were like $1300 - you don't have to spend 5 grand for the best sound.
Twotontessie 3 years ago
You dont get this sound of oak's
I have custom oaks myself and they don't sound like this.
This is worth the money for shure.

Damn, that's what I call drumming. Impressive skill, impressive kit, and some drum dealer's economic stimulus package.
