  • Thanks even through your showing pictures instead or videotaping it. It was helpful and I think I'll try it.

  • can u use elastic string or does it have to be sewing thread? I have .5 mm elastic is that okay to use??

  • @afeliciano26 You could try it, but I'm not sure how well it will weave for this because you have to go through each core bead four times! You'll need larger beads with larger holes. Maybe acryllic beads? Let me know if you get it to work, though.

  • i sooo wanna try this but the beads i have r so small and i dont have the right kind of thread to use -__- or needle. BUT now i know how to do this...Thanks

  • Please can anyone tell me what bead i've to put the needle through as i am getting so very mixed up :( Anyone out there can you help me please :)

  • @sexysas4 After you pick up a core bead and three wrap beads, you put your needle through the third bead down in the core, then bring it up through those three core beads, plus the one core bead you just added.

  • I bought a starter kit at wall mart. the book had good desigs, but the beads they gaveme are like.. TEEENY. way to small for the thread provided...so I dug around for that old emergency sewing kit, yoinked some sewing thread out.. voila.. is it alright to use this kind of thread?

  • @Kidenku Oh, sure. You can use it. Just remember NOT to double the thread.

  • thanks! I dont speak english but I understand enough to learn this :D

  • are you using thread?

  • @TheChinups No. Its a secret, magic spider web...

Of course I'm using thread!!! I don't remember what kind, though. Probably Fireline in this video.

  • I saved myself $45 (cost of spiral stitch class at my local bead store) watching this video. I plan to watch all your videos, you make mistakes like the rest of us, give precise easy to use directions and save us new to beading the frustration of books and photo instructions.

    Thanks,

    New beader in Princeton NJ

  • @srgathome 45.00! Seriously?? Gosh, this is the first stitch I learned, and that was free on television!

    Wow, 45 bucks...I can't get over that.

  • Hi; would you know how to do this with three colors? I found several on Etsy that I'd like to duplicate.

  • @dsmit138 Sure:

    Core: o

    Wrap: x8x

    o = color 1

    x= color 2

    8= color 3

    Three colors!

  • this looks complicated... but I've subbed + faved this vid.. hopefully I get this down... using a thin thread, though, doesn't break after a lot of usage on bracelets & even maybe lanyards?

  • @ibkristykat I wouldn't use them to repel a rock face, or anything...

That said, there are LOTS of beading materials to string with, including 4 to 20 pound fishing line. Adjust your bead size to the size of the line.

  • @tsummerlee repel - hehe.. sorry that gave me a funny image.

I keep seeing others use fishing line for stuff that gets a lot of wear- will have to keep some on hand in my craft corner.... good suggestion. Thanks :)

  • This is lovely - thanks.

  • What a great stitch thanks for sharing

  • Steelers1284- you buy a large cap that will fit over the beads and take the leftover string and go through the cap and onto a clasp, back and forth until you have made it strong and then you do the knot somewhere in the necklace.

  • Can u explain to me a little better how to make them into a bracelet? I somewhat understand but mine hasnt come out right. So if u can, let me no. Thanks

  • @Steelers1284 Add a clasp.

  • Where do you get these glass kandi beeds? I really like them. How much are they?

  • @SuperMac18ROX33 They're just color lined size 8 seed beads. You can get them anywhere, really. I've had these so long, I don't remember what I paid for them.

  • I'm very new at beading and love it! I'm too anxious and want to learn everything...now! lol...This was the best video for me. Your instructions were perfect and your personality is adorable! Thank you for sharing! I just have one question...I don't have a ton of supplies, but, I have #10 thin crochet thread and collapsable needles for beading. My beads are all different sizes. But, do you think that the thread and type of needle will work? Thanks again!

  • Yes! I do think it will work IF the beads you're using have big enough holes in them. (Pony beads and Crow beads would work very well.) Remember that you have to pass the thread through the same beads three or four times. That means they'll need a big enough hole to accomodate all that thread. The needle needs to be strong enough to go through all that stuff, too. "Big eye" or split needles are great, just be careful not to bend them all out of shape when you're working.

  • You are the best!!!! Thank you so much! That really clears things up for me!!! Have a great weekend...what's left of it!

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. I have the materials to make a really pretty bracelet but the instructions from Fire Mountain Gems are confusing. I was able to do this with your instruction. I guess I am going to have to post video instructions on how to do book binding, another fun thing to do. What a neat way to share with each other.

    Thank You

    D

  • What a wonderful comment. Thank you. There's something hypnotic and beautifully optimistic about new journals and books, isn't there? One could almost get philosophical about it. In fact, many do. Angst to prose, those pages beg to be filled.

Please let me know if you do upload a book binding video. It's a captivating, practical, and romantic craft you practice.

  • What type thread/wire do you recommend for actually making a bracelet? This is so fun! I've done about three on dental floss and then crosstitch thread. Neither of these seem right.

  • In the demo I use Fireline, which is a fishing line I buy at the sporting good store. I use 6 lb line. "Nymo" is a great thread, and comes in lots of colors. The only thing I don't like about Nymo is that my needle "splits" the thread at times, which is a pain to fix. I found another thread I like called "WildFire." Silky smooth, strong, won't split from needle penetrations, and drapes beautifully. Expensive, though. Costs twice as much as Fireline.

  • Wow! Thanks! I bought some fishing line tonight from Wallmart, but it's too thick to do the 'feed through' (don't know the tech name for it). I'm going to a Michael's (out of town) Monday. We don't have much in po-dunk town from which to shop!

6 lb makes sense since I bought 50 lb on the recommendation of a 'fisherman' in the aisle. Anything else I could use that 50 lbs stuff for? I tried it with a much larger bead and it was too loose. Thanks for the remarks! I love this stitch!

  • LOL! Yeah, 50lb is a little much for beading, but it would work for heavy sun catchers and stuff like that.

When you go to Michaels, look for "Wildfire" beading thread. It's made by Beadalon, or Nymo.

  • Thanking you for the tutorial, quiet simple to follow. Now I can make use of my seed beads and make my daughter look more of the Princess that she is, God bless.

  • I loves da princesses! :)

  • Excellent tutorial. My GF is so happy with this tutorial.

  • That's wonderful!

  • thanks)

     ok,I'll try)

  • Very good tutorial, it offers a better explanation than the DVD & books I bought. You have got such a friendly voice, I could listen to you all day. I am definitely using this tutorial.

One question: is it true that I can't use other size beads apart from size 11s for peyote even count? My beading teacher said so, is she telling porkies, she also odd count peyote is not really a good stitch. What do I believe?

    Thanks,

  • "Porkies," LOL!

Of course you can! You just need to increase the number of beads when you start using the smaller one's. Example: If you were working rows of 5/0's and want to start using 11/0's, you'll need to increase the number of 11/0's you use by adding two in a space instead of one, and still end up with an even count.

    0oo0oo0oo0, like that.

Gawd, I hope that makes sense.

You guys are always giving me ideas for another tutorial!

    (lolol, "porkies.")

  • Thank you so much for this tutorial)

Could you explain please how to use 3 or more coloures in this spiral ?

  • Use one for the core, then XOX, or two colors for the wrap beads: X is one color, and O is another. That would give you three colors!

  • Always stretch Nymo! Nymo's probably better for this because you can match the color so much better than with Fireline. I just hate splitting my thread with the needle! Ugh!

  • Interesting tutorial. I call it spiral rope too.

I've learnt it in a slightly different way. I start with four core beads. I don't have fireline it's too expensive. I just use nymo D, which you stretch before using it and it's no problem for me to do this.

  • thanks so much for the great lesson. I love the look of this - I always called it a rope stitch, if this is really what it is. This is going on my save list!

  • I've called it "rope" stitch too, and I've heard it called the "DNA" stitch, even!

  • As I mentioned in the video, I'm using size 8/0 rounds in pink and orange lined crystal beads.

  • Great lesson,Love those colors, what the colors and size beads?
