  • @dv122 Scottie Pippen is a better player than Dr.J? Come on man. The career stats speak for themselves: Dr.J avg'd 22.0 pts, Pippen 16.1pts. It was said Dr. J could not shoot but he shot 50.7%(Dr.J was known for dunking but all his shots were not dunks) while Pippen shot 47.3%. Dr.J avg'd 6.7 rebounds per game, Pippen 6.4. Pippen avg'd more assists with 5.2 to Docs 3.9 and more steals with 2.0 to 1.8. Dr.J avg'd 1.5 blocks to Pippen's 0.8. I would take Doc all day over Pippen.

  • @alstan631 Hey, I agree.

  • Damn I never seen this dunk. impressive as fuck.

  • nice title lol

  • Pippen couldn't carry Dr. J's shoe laces. The only thing doc didn't have was a jump shot. He was a better defender than Pippen & much more tougher then him. Doc said in an interview he never developed a jump shot because his high school & college coach's said to focus take in to the hole so thats what he worked on.

  • @1Blkkato Well said, the Doctor was one tuff man.He played good defense, blocked shots an was one hell of a rebounder(15.7 one season).Once MJ was gone Pippen wasn't crap!

  • Kenai123, I remember that dunk. Oscar robertson returned to play defense and he could not believe that the DR just flew by him. He showed no respect for his defense! The look on robertson face said it all! The only other time I saw that look on robertson face was when Frazier made back to back steals on him.

  • Best play that ended in a dunk I ever saw and none has come close to since was the first year Doc went to the NBA. Playing GSW in Oakland going after a loose ball ran past it on purpose reached back picked the ball up one hand didn't take a dribble took off from outside the key about middle of the lane and threw it down . Barry and Doc were incredible they played each other to a stand off point for point

  • @tellthetruthg some of erving's best dunks were early years w/ 76ers...just ask bill walton lol...

  • @Mrdavidt363 with out doubt Doc was in incredible shape in his first couple of yr's of his 6er carer. plus he was a better all round player then too. Loved to watch him.

  • Respond to this video... He couldn't be stopped in the open court game but I saw Rick Barry out play him. Doc couldn't guard Barry at all. But Barry played Doc as well as anyone on D.He didn't try to jump with him he just cut off lanes and forced him to shoot jumpers. Doc could get hot but I never saw him light Barry up.

  • DR. J lead teams...*PIPPEN* was a follower...what did Pippen lead *after* JORDAN left...NOTHING!!! (If DR. J. was *athletic* enough to slam on Kareem, Artis Gilmore, Dave Cowens and a healthy, young Bill Walton...ya think he could school Scottie Pippen?

    Fucking Dummies!!!

  • @CNVRSKDAJW thank you!!! doc was better all around. pippen didn't do squat when jordan left..he was beggin jordan to come back. doc did dunks that even jordan couldn't do.

  • Kenai123! I remembered that dunk on Oscar! Oscar had the most helpless look on his face. He fell back on defense to stop the fast break and was shocked that DrJ just went to the 7th floor on his elevator and rammed it home. I dont remembered j west on that play. Thanx

  • Thats a bit off from the free throw line

but oh well guess it counts

  • Dr J was pure poetry in motion!

  • he overshot the line by about a foot...awesome dunk though...i like Daryl Dawkins' dunk....

  • ShIt!!! look at that LENGTH!!

  • Dr. J has many free throw dunks during games and I consider him the best dunker of all-time due to the degree of difficulty (many dunks still unemulated even today), the number of years he could dunk at a high level and of course his creativity. One relatively unknown dunk was during the 1972 NBA-ABA game, when a young Dr. J from the foul line and dunked over Oscar Robertson and Jerry West.Dr.J seemed to rise to the occasion, like his successors, MJ, Dominique, and Vince Carter have also done.

  • I remember watching that game on TV, and not believing what I had seen!.

Julius actually did that dunk twice in a row during a 4th Quarter ABA rally that had them on pace to win.

Then the aging Wilt Chamberlain came off the bench and blocked the Dr's next 2 dunk attempts, giving the NBA a narrow victory.

  • @tunanorth Wilt was such an exceptional athlete. he was very long too. long wingspan, huge hands, and in his young yrs(college, 1st 5yrs in NBA) he could jump through the roof!! if he wanted to, he couldve dunked from the free throw line! nobody was doing that in the 50' and 60's(nobody cared to do that) i saw clips of the '72 ABA-NBA game and he destroyed Artis Gilmore, simply overpowered him.

  • Dr. J's massive hands were really on display here...the famous dunk on Bobby Grossman in the finals against the Blazers, u see him even cock the ball backward, AT THE WRIST before he explodes it thru the rim...amazing

  • @bwink23 haha. u said cock.

  • @WhatTheFrickTV Haha. Your name has frick in it.

  • we all forgot about sbud web im sure he can jump higher than all of them easy

  • the dunk master doc's tha pioneer

  • We know who can't dunk from the FT line. Hint: last season MVP.

  • Pippen was in no way more athletic than Dr. J

  • your dam right were did that shit come from?!

  • Dr J looks taller and longer, but I know he's only about an inch taller than MJ tops.

  • Yeah Julius is one inch taller than MJ but im willing to bet his wingspan easily tops MJ's.

  • Yes, both his arm span and hands are longer and bigger than Jordan. And Jordan has big hands too, but not like the Doc. Doc had the hands of a center and Connie Hawkins hands were beyond a center.

  • and dr j could jump better than mj no doubt

  • What other players have dunked from almost the free throw line in a game. Obviously Dr J and recently Jebron, also Clyde The Glide. I think Eddie Jones did it once, but i might be wrong.

    Any sugestions?

  • Dude..MJ?? He dunked from near the FT line against the Pistons and Celtics and those are just the ones i remember im sure there are more.

  • when did he do it against the celtics...do u have a link?...i know the one on the pistons though that was crazy...he dunks from the ft line ON A SEVEN FOOTER. haha

  • I think he was talking about the dunk over Brian Shaw.

    1989 Jordan 52 against Boston.

    youtube(dot)com/watch?v=XVrfZaS8Fb0

    Right?

  • ??

there weren't any free throw line dunks in that vid. but i think i found it...

    /watch?v=-Mn1KSpLGsY&fmt=18

around 1:43....I wish we could get a better view on that, though...

  • Yes,that's it.

I always want to see it from a better angle too.

  • Jordanhair i dont see a FT line dunk in that video either. Where is it?

  • this is it. he didnt say free throw line dunk he said near it. and this is the farthest dunk i have ever seen during a game ever!

  • Sure here you go

    /watch?v=-Mn1KSpLGsY&fmt=18

    1:43 mark

  • Holy crap, thanks for the link!.

Where can we see the one that airjordan1585 mentions that happened againts the Pistons, over a 7 footer, anyone has the link?

  • /watch?v=d_orBKAtZQk

Near FT line dunk over Laimbeer.

  • jordan looked up to dr j but jordan played with a better dr j in pippen. pippen was like a more athletic better defensive drJ.

  • Pippen was just stronger because of the better training technique in the 90's.

Dr.J could easily do FT dunk when he was at age 35(1985 slam dunk contest)

If Dr.J live today with better training technique ,he would be more athletic.

  • Pippen was not more athletic than Dr j stupid ass

  • @dv122 Pippen was not better or more athletic than Dr j so stop it!

  • @dv122 pippen more athletic than dr. j? LOL, pippen a better dr. j? LOL

  • @dv122 yeah, but there is just one difference. dr. j dominated his era. pippen was best supporting actor.

  • @dv122 Pippen was taller and bigger than Dr.J but by no means was he a better player. Dr. J was a more effective shooter (top 5 all time), better rebound-er (by a mile), more talented (fade-away and finger roll abilities) and more creative - some of his moves will remain the toast of legend for generations to come.

  • @Sovnarkom Erving a top 5 shooter? Am I missing something brother?

  • @CLewey44 By that, I mean he's the #5 all time leading scorer in NBA/ABA history, having scored over thirty thousand points in his career (surpassed only by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain).

  • @CLewey44 Erving shot 50.7% from the field. All his made baskets were not dunks. He had a good mid range jumper and he was excellent using the glass on the angle shots. From 1990 and on, what player besides true big men shoot 50% from the field?

  • @alstan631 Gervin did for starters, but Erving wasn't a jump shooter like Ice, Bird, Barry, West, Jordan(older Jordan) etc. Erving did NOT dunk all the time but he did slash to the basket alot and shot in the lane. The statement was he was a top 5 shooter. Erving wasn't a top 5 shooter or even a shooter at all.

  • @alstan631 Probably not since 90 though. So many threes jacked up since then. The 3 ball wasn't apart of offenses too much untill then so naturally, FG percentages dropped.

  • @dv122 lol cant belive i'm hearing this , pippen was not athletic as erving , what a bullshit go fuck yourself with modern nba superiority bullshit .

  • Dr.J had more than 20 times FT dunks in game.

This is just one of them.he took off inside FT line

Dr.J also did some dunks in game that his foot right on the FT line.

  • For f"#k sakes.. What a beast..

Jordanhair i hope you can post more of these! Thanks

  • sick...and he coulda jumped from waaay further out too
