Many thanks for this. I put my rhubarb in two years ago and now I have huge crops with now care or attention! I shall take your advice about dividing the crowns and limiting the excessive crop.
Rhubarb isnt just the name of a plant,There is also when two baseball teams fist fight each other on the field that's called a rhubarb,But it usually happens when the batter charges at the pitcher after the pitcher hits him with the ball.
The stalks can be eaten raw, with sugar. Don't eat the leaves though. They are poisonous---if you eat the leaves, you can damage your kidneys/liver, and have kidney failure.
I put in a couple of big crowns early last year. I left them to settle in and this summer they are producing well, to the benefit of the gardener and his neighbours. No possums in England!
Well when you last mentioned Rhubarb I posted a video of how much I enjoy it raw. However I think nature would draw the line for even me somewhere below the leaves! Some persons are amazing though & try near anything. Yup had to bring myself to watch as thought maybe you were disguising the rabbit capture in rhubarb vid lol. Tossdart
Nice videos. I think you will have to thin out a lot as ours are 70-90cm across at their largest.
May I ask where (roughly) is Australia you are located? I tried growing rhubarb in Qld once and it did quite poorly. Of course, now I am in Sweden it's one of the things I actually have no problem growing. :o)
I have some rhubarb in also and didn't realise that I couldn't harvest for a couple of seasons. Am just getting some now. I am forcing mine at the moment by placing a pot over the top which encourages quick growth.
My fave recipe is a rhubarb and cinnamon cake from Stephanie Alexanders cook book. It is divine, the aroma of the cake while cooking makes me drool at the thought of what's to come. Glad to see that the demolished beds are back in action so quickly..well done

If that rabbit/possum comes back it'll get a nasty surprise if it tries to eat the leaves of your plants again!!

Rhubarb crumble mmm! Truly a shame about your possum/rabbit problem. I'm glad to see you're rebuilding just fine.
