Fighting has been part of hockey almost as long as hockey has been around. Do some research, or perhaps watch some of the hundreds (if not thousands) of hockey fights posted all over this website by our good friend hockeyfightsdotcom. It is a major penalty in hockey (5 minutes off the ice), but each team has at least one player (an enforcer) whose main job is to start fights when the team is in need of momentum. Now either do some research, or stop complaining.

It's just part of the game, and if you can believe it, it actually helps reduce in injuries. A cheap-shot artist will think twice when there is the possibility of immediate retribution from a guy who can kick his ass. It gets the anger out of the players in an efficient manner also. You don't see bench-clearing brawls in hockey. Baseball and basketball have this problem.
